Naruto Uzumaki? Naruto Namikaze?

Was there any reason that Naruto took Kushina's last name? Slightly odd...

To cover the truth up BUT I have a son and when he was born they gave him my girlfriends last name rather than mine until we filled out the papers giving him my last name. Minato obviously didn't have time to make the edits from uzumaki to Namikazi so that also could have been a reason. I hope that answers the question lol

It was the night the nine tails attacked and a lot of Konoha ninja died... the villagers knew anyway it was meant to be so their children wouldn't treat Naruto like a Jinchuriki and so that he would be a normal kid not just a Jinchuriki or the son of the forth Hokage
