But that makes no sense. Why would she speak to some spirtual being if she was never gonna gain some power?

One of the clan members had a big orb which destroyed the other clan in one fell-swoop. The above orb is held and hidden away by Toneri. It then transitions to Sai and Shika fly on his drawn birds as they look for a way into the special moon.

That turned to be false because Hamura told her he always wanted to protect earth and his brother, then later on he told her the location of the thing causing the problem and how to destroy it, that's why she left with Toneri without a second thought, to Naruto it seemed she rejected him for Toneri when in reality she left to destroy the thing pulling the moon towards the earth, Toneri read her mind and later on knew her plan and planted a false one to trick her, at the end Hinata and Naruto destroy it

The chakra is Hamura chakra, which she in fact receives from Hamura and the rest of his clan from a zombie (this is actually the weird truth) Naruto attempts to destroy the tenseigan, but Hinata tells him that only Hamura chakra can affect it, and she charges the received purple chakra and does the twin lion strike. Because Hinata lacks a forceful enough attack, it is useless, and that is where Naruto suggests that the two of them attack together; Hinata to provide the chakra, and Naruto to provide the strength. They make a purple lion (that looks like a dragon) with a glowing ball inside of it. This attack works.
