Remember when I said I didn’t consider Flying Raijin to be Airon’s most impressive ability? Well, here it is*_* lol This chapter turned out a lot shorter than I thought, but I guess some people’ll be happier for it. lol Anyways, really hope you enjoy it
Here’s my previous chapters, for those who missed any:
Chapter 079: The Pinnacle
The fluid-like qualities of the newly introduced elements made them far more manageable than the mostly rigid earth or the far too scattered wind, but Nakama still found herself at odds attempting to pin her opponent down. With four possible means of attack to watch out for now, though, Airon was more vulnerable than ever, and with his steadily decreasing chakra supply in tow, his only means of mustering up the speed to dodge them all came in the form of the Flying Raijin jutsu. Those watching from above could only admire how long he carried on under these dire conditions, even his peers finding his longevity hard to believe by this point.
Irezumi: So far, so good.
Manako: (He nodded in agreement, though he continued watching Airon intensively with his Sharingan.) He’ll have to find a way out of this soon, though. That technique doesn’t use up much of his chakra, but it’s more than what most people give him credit for.
Inase: (She looked over at him as he said this, her Byakugan active as she, too, examined her brother’s chakra supply.) (And with his current supply already at a low point, he can’t afford to keep using it like that.)
Manako: (He smirked as another thought entered his mind.) (Especially if he intends to use that little trick he said he was saving for this match.)
Inase: (She smiled in amusement as she shifted her gaze back towards the match.) (Hmhm, yes…especially then.)
Airon was indeed looking for a way out of his current situation, and after a few more costly minutes of avoiding the elements, an answer finally opened up to him as he began studying Nakama’s movements more and more.
Airon: (She’s actively avoiding contact between the water and flames to keep them in a form she can control. She probably suspects I’ll try using the resulting steam to my advantage, too. …Well, she’s not wrong.)
With a strategy in mind, he took off towards the nearest wall and began running along it again, keeping a watchful eye on the trails of fire and water following after him the entire time. He continued for several seconds before teleporting to a location he had previously marked on the opposite end of the arena, prompting Nakama to send them trailing after him. Waiting until they were adjacent to one another, Airon leapt off the wall with more kunai at the ready, tossing one in between them and immediately teleporting to it. Against her better judgment, Nakama took the bait and watched in frustration as Airon used the rest to teleport further along the lengths of the elements, which proceeded to close in around him and dissolve into a huge cloud of steam as they collided, directly above her.
Darui: That was awfully clever.
Gaara: (He nodded in agreement, narrowing his gaze as the steam spread further and further out.) Yes it was. …Where is he?
Konohamaru: (He looked over at him in confusion before peering into the cloud.) Hm? …He’s hiding within the steam cloud, isn’t he?
Gaara: …Still?
Surprising by the inquiry, the other Kage quickly began realizing how many seconds it had been since Airon reappeared. Growing somewhat impatient herself, Nakama’s hair fluttered about slightly and the steam began blowing away as a torrent of kunai emerged from its depths. Her eyes widened in surprise, she brought a wave of earth over her head to avoid the attack as Airon descended back to the ground with a large Rasengan in hand.
Airon: (You’ll need a bigger shield than that, Nakama.) Giant Rasengan!!
Recognizing this just in time, the ground beneath Nakama’s feet suddenly shifted, moving her several yards out as the wall of earth she had previously conjured up vanished beneath Airon’s technique.
Kankurō: It was a trap.
Gaara: (He stared down at Airon in wonder.) He waited until she blew away the steam, then he summoned a barrage of kunai like the one he used in the first round. …Still, how did he remain in midair for such a long period of time?
Darui: More clever use of the Flying Raijin jutsu, I’d assume, Kazekage.
Gaara: (Still not convinced, considering his ailing stamina, he continued watching Airon in suspicion.) Yes…perhaps.
Down below, a short ceasefire allowed Airon the opportunity to catch his breath at long last, noticing that Nakama had finally begun deepening her breaths, as well, prompting him to smile in amusement.
Airon: Huhh…huhh, seems you’re finally getting tired, too.
Nakama: Hmhmhm…well, we are only human.
She humored him for only a few more seconds, knowing better than to give him time to recover. But rather than turn to the earth or wind for offense, she curled her lips slightly as a small trail of saliva trickled down from her tongue, filling Airon’s eyes with apparent horror and disgust.
Airon: Ohhh, please don’t do that.
Nakama: (The corners of her mouth curled up in amusement as the drool gathered at her feet, returning to her gentle smile when she had finished.) Hmhm, I’m sorry…but it’s necessary.
Almost immediately, the puddle of saliva rose from the ground and began circling her body, growing ever larger with each orbit. Before long, it had doubled the size of the trail of water that came before it, prompting Gaara to turn to Naruto as thoughts of the preliminary matches reentered his mind.
Gaara: Naruto…is this what you meant…during the preliminaries?
Naruto: (He nodded in confirmation, watching intensely as the water continued to grow.) A single drop is all it takes…and she can fill an entire ocean.
He remained stationary to continue building up stamina, but Airon couldn’t help but watch anxiously as the water suddenly darted outwards and began the coating the walls of the entire stadium, prompting a fretful Baiko to retreat further up and into the stands as it approached his feet. Once the walls were covered, it began moving along the ground as Airon reached in his pouch for four more kunai, staring up as it simultaneously formed the dome over the arena.
Airon: (She’s sealed me in. And I can’t use my Antlion jutsu to get rid of the water cause she’ll just hold the ground in place to stop it. …Guess it’s time then.)
He stood back up with a grin as Nakama pulled out her matches again, returning his smile as she lit one and instantly conjured up another serpent of flames, which closed in on Airon as the water on the ground did the same. Waiting until the very last moment, Airon tossed a kunai into the air and warped away as both elements reached out to attack him. He continued doing this in order to scale the heights of the stadium walls without going near them, though many spectators failed to see the point of this with even his vertical retreat cut off once he went high enough.
Darui: That’s it…there’s no where he can go now.
Naruto: (His smile slowly morphed into a grin as he speculated what would come next.) You sure about that?
Airon’s latest use of the Flying Raijin brought too close in proximity to the liquid dome overhead, which proceeded to extend outward in various places in order to lash out at him. With the flames still closing in from below and no other alternative in sight, he managed a grin as he began channeling chakra into his hands and feet and positioning them beneath his body. Almost immediately, his descent was cut short and he leapt off to the side with one more kunai in hand, pouring more chakra into it before chucking it against the dome. It just barely broke through as he teleported on the other side, grabbing it and throwing it up again as the water attempted to grab him and pull him back down. He continued this until he had broken an altitude of one-thousand feet, effectively leaving the range of Nakama’s technique. He kept himself airborne with the chakra still channeling through his feet, giving off the appearance that was standing in midair, a sight those with sharp enough eyes to catch found almost too difficult to believe.
Kagetsu: No way.
Z: Holy shit.
Miyuki: Is he…wait, how the heck did…
Sabure: …That’s not possible…
Irezumi: …Amazing…
Minto: …So it’s true…he really can do it…
Manako: (He grinned as he looked over the railing at his rival, being one of the few there to witness this ability before.) …There it is.
Inase: (She smiled in amusement at Kei’s gaping mouth a short distance away before staring up at Airon in admiration.) (Big brother…you truly are brilliant.)
On the balcony further up, even the most elite shinobi present in the stadium were left speechless, some of them having never witnessed anything even remotely similar to what they were seeing now.
Konohamaru: That’s incredible…I’ve never seen him do that before.
Kurotsuchi: What is that? A flying jutsu?
Naruto: …No. …It’s much more than that.
Kurotsuchi: Huh?
Every pair of eyes on the balcony immediately looked over at Naruto, who craned his neck to bring his grandson into his field of vision, not blinking for fear of missing even a moment of this nigh historical feat.
Naruto: Airon…he is, without a doubt, the most talented ninja I’ve ever seen. Thanks to that chakra control of his, he’s not only mastered every technique I’ve ever taught him in record time, but he’s gone further with most of them than I ever could. …I taught him the Rasengan and Shadow Clone jutsu when he was only five and within a few hours, he was making hundreds of clones and creating Rasengan twice his size with only one hand. …I taught him nature transformation when he was eight and in a couple days, he made his first Rasenshuriken, also with one hand. …I taught him the secrets of my dad’s Flying Raijin jutsu when he was ten, and by the time he was twelve, he perfected it, something only two other ninja in history were ever able to do. …He found out how to walk on water while he was still in the Academy, without any help from me at all…and now, almost ten years later, he’s found a way to do something no one else in history has ever done before…walk on thin air, using only his chakra to keep him airborne.
Still at a loss for words, those around him could only gaze back up at Airon, wondering what kind of unearthly power this boy had been bestowed with, and whether or not it could’ve possibly come solely from his grandfather.
Kurotsuchi: But…that’s impossible.
The smile that lit up Naruto’s face when she said this bore traces of amusement, but otherwise stemmed from only one overwhelming feeling – pride in the brilliance of his own grandson.
Naruto: Nothing’s impossible, Kurotsuchi. Airon knows that better than anyone. …It is his ninja way, after all.
The pinnacle of chakra control – walking on air!!!
