Alright, let’s this started! *_* Not too much action going on in this match, but those who know the contestants by now should understand why. lol Anyways, enjoy:)

Here’s my previous chapters, for those who missed any:

Chapter 050: The Worst Possible Match-Up

With a stadium of impatient spectators in their midst, the other sixteen finalists wasted no time in heading up to their assigned balcony, leaving Nakama and Kagetsu standing in the middle of the arena with Baiko. Ever wary of his foreign peer’s anxiety, Z patted Kagetsu on the arm as he walked past him, prompting him to turn and find his fist outstretched in front of him.

Z: You got this, my man.

Hesitating for a moment, Kagetsu eventually returned Z’s grin, as well as the fist bump, before he took off after the rest of the finalists. Upon rejoining them, he found himself under questioning from his own future opponent.

Airon: You really think he stands a chance against Nakama?

Z: (He turned his head to look back at the first two contestants as he answered.) After what I saw her do in the preliminaries, hell naw. …He is my boy, though, so I gotta leave him with somethin’.

Airon: (Briefly considering this notion, he smiled and looked back towards them, as well.) Good point. Wrap this up quick, Nakama!!

Nakama promptly waved back upon hearing his words, though one person amongst their group was far less enthusiastic about the idea of the first match ending quickly – and he was staring dismally at Akame as he voiced this concern.

Shikaru: Or not. I still need more time to figure out how I’m gonna deal with that broad.

Airon: (You’ll come up with something, man. Just let it flow.)

He glanced over at Airon upon hearing this, who smiled and winked to inform him that his remark was not said aloud. Ever the pessimist, though, Shikaru essentially shrugged it off.

Shikaru: (Pssh…yeah, thanks. That’s all good coming from a genius AND a prodigy.)

Airon shook his head at this, but proceeded to grin amusedly at his subtle compliments nonetheless, as the group made their way through the vast corridors residing within the walls of the stadium. A few minutes passed before they finally made their way up to the balcony where Airon, being near the back of the group, noticed that his brother had taken his spot on one end and his sister was now standing on the other. Naturally, he suspected Kei to be the catalyst for this situation, and immediately walked over to Inase to determine his reasoning.

Airon: (What the heck is he doing?)

Inase: (He thinks that because we’re enemies in the first round, we should steer clear of each other as much as possible. …Hmhm, personally, I think he just wants to stand next to Kūrogane.)

Turning towards the other end of the balcony, Airon chuckled softly upon finding that Kei was indeed conversing with Kūrogane, only to shrug it off a few seconds later to focus on the upcoming match. Meanwhile, at the very top of the stands, the Kage and their respective bodyguards had also gathered to enjoy the tournament. Each village leader was seated across from one another as their subordinates stood on either side of them, their order from left to right being the Raikage, the Tsuchikage, the Hokage, the Kazekage, and the Mizukage. For those not partaking in more intimate conversation with their neighbors, the main priority was analyzing the two combatants before them, the verdict being almost unanimous.

Konohamaru: This is quite the unfortunate match-up, to say the least.

Suigetsu: (Having not witnessed Nakama in action yet, he was quick to defend his fellow clan member’s skills.) How the hell do you figure that? I think Kagetsu’s gonna wipe the floor with her in seconds flat.

Mei: (Amused by his naiveté, she looked up at him with a well-meaning smile.) That’s nice of you, dear, but I’m afraid you weren’t there to witness this young girl’s match in the preliminaries.

Sasuke: I’d hate to tell you this, Suigetsu, but your clan’s signature technique just found its worst possible opponent.

Suigetsu looked up at his former teammate upon hearing his voice, finding him standing next to the railing with both Naruto and Sakura on either side of him, their presence there he was quick to question.

Suigetsu: And you guys are up here with us why?

Naruto: What? These are the best seats in the house and I’d say all three of us have earned our chance to try ‘em out.

Konohamaru: (Chuckling at this, he looked over at Suigetsu with the intent of giving a more sensible reasoning.) You can just consider them my personal guards, Suigetsu, the same way you’re here standing beside your Mizukage’s stand-in.

At this, Suigetsu shrugged the matter off completely as everyone directed their attention towards the arena, where the first match was about to begin. The few minutes between the departure of the other finalists and Baiko’s signal had seemingly no effect on Kagetsu’s doubts, as he had started repeatedly tapping his heel on the ground and twitching his dominant wrist.

Kagetsu: (Oh maaan, what the hell am I gonna do?)

Baiko noticed these signs of discomfort, as well, but with the normal crowd members rapidly growing more restless, he firmly denied Kagetsu any more time to salvage his resolve and raised his arm to start the match.

Baiko: Alright, if both of you are ready, …begin!

As with the preliminaries, Nakama’s hair quickly began fluttering about as Baiko’s arm fell, a large pillar erupting from the ground hardly a second later as the crowd looked on in awe. Unlike her opponent from before, though, Kagetsu was quick on his feet and leapt back just in time, the column of earth passing just inches in front of his frightened face.

Kagetsu: Whoa!! (Man, that was close!)

He was given little time to rest, though, as another pillar erupted from beneath where he was now standing, the same thing occurring when he leapt away again. With Kagetsu now constantly on the defensive, Nakama wasted no effort protecting herself and focused her technique solely on injuring her opponent. Their fellow finalists watched this intensively from overhead, the most common assessment being directed towards Kagetsu’s fortitude.

Minto: He’s off to a good start.

Airon: (He nodded in agreement.) Hmhm, she’ll catch up with him, though. …She always does.

Sabure: (Not as knowledgeable about Nakama’s technique as they were, she questioned their doubts about Kagetsu’s chances of victory.) Wait, and what’ll happen when she does? All he has to do is use that water jutsu of his to-

Ryūza: Just watch the match, Sabure. …You’ll figure it out eventually.

A bit put off by her brother’s intrusion, Sabure dropped the subject for the time being and looked back towards the arena, where Kagetsu was still fumbling to avoid the pillars that erupted from the ground. By this point, the immediate vicinity had become covered with giant columns of earth sprouting up from every angle, forcing even Baiko to retreat back to a safe distance. Kagetsu’s flexibility gave him more room to evade newly risen pillars, but he struggled to find a way out of this large thorny contraption Nakama had managed to produce. As more time passed, he eventually found himself backed up against a previously created pillar – exactly what Nakama had been hoping for – and it was only by a slim margin that he noticed the smaller extrusion that was erupting from its side.

Kagetsu: (Oh, crap!)

Leaping out of the way, he found to his shock that the other pillars around him had also sprouted extrusions, all of which slowly but surely began to surround him. Once he was completely trapped, multiple pillars began emerging from these newly formed walls of earth, closing in on him from every angle.

Kagetsu: (All sides! …Damn it, looks like I don’t have a choice!!)

Clasping his hands together, he quickly liquefied his body as the pillars impaled him, prompting Nakama to smile in satisfaction from a distance. Her hair movements gradually becoming more violent, Kagetsu suddenly found his liquid form hoisted into the air, unable to move on its own or resolidify. Naturally, the danger this presented caused him to panic.

Kagetsu: WAAAAA!!! PUT ME DOWN!! PROCTOR!! PROCTOR!! DAMN IT, PUT ME DOWN, YOU CRAZY-

Before Kagetsu could complete his insult, Nakama lifted him higher into the air and sent him crashing down to the ground, her control over every molecule in his liquid body being the only thing that kept him from splashing about upon impact. Judging from his exhausted and terrified expression, as well as the one-sidedness of the match until now, Baiko saw no reason to keep this up and raised his arm to confirm the results.

Baiko: The winner is…Nakama!

The crowd immediately broke into thunderous applause, praising the slightly embarrassed kunoichi for her incredible abilities. In the contestants’ balcony, though, the volume wasn’t nearly at the same level, in part because several of them were silently assessing Nakama’s performance, chief among them being Sabure.

Sabure: So…it’s not just the ground, then?

Airon: (He chuckled at her naiveté as he gazed down at the match’s victor.) Hmhmhmhm…oh no, not even close. She’s got authority on all five elemental natures so long as they’re in a pure enough form…and obviously, that includes water.

Inase: It’s a bit of a shame, really. But, the fact of the matter is that this match was doomed from the start. …Nakama just completely robbed him of every option he had.

Ryūza: Had you been paying attention to what they were saying back during the preliminaries, you would’ve already caught onto that, Sabure.

A bit ashamed of herself now, Sabure quickly shrugged off her brother’s remarks, meanwhile at the top of the stands, the Kage and their bodyguards were also going over the results of the match, some expressing more disappointment than others.

Suigetsu: Man…well, that blows.

Naruto: (A smile already plastered on his face in light of Nakama’s victory, it gradually morphed into a grin upon hearing Suigetsu’s comment.) Some people are just unlucky, Suigetsu. What can you do, really?

Konohamaru: (Amused by this exchange, he proceeded to give a much more analytical review of the match.) She immediately jumped on the offensive once the match began, always keeping her opponent concerned with his immediate safety rather than his surroundings. Using that knowledge, she slowly but surely lured him into a cage before launching an attack from all directions that forced him to use his Hydrafication technique. …Her strategy from the very beginning was to get him to liquefy his body so she could take control of it.

Gaara: (He nodded in agreement to his assessment.) Even with that powerful ability of hers, she still takes the time to formulate a strategy rather than simply go berserk with it. I must say, I'm quite impressed.

The other Kages also expressed their agreement, while down below, a pair of medical-nin arrived on the scene to fetch Kagetsu – who had just barely pulled his liquid body back together – as Baiko stepped forward to speak to the crowd.

Baiko: We will now commence with the next match! I need Shikaru Nara and Akame Uchiha to make their way to the arena now!

Nakama moves on without a hitch – does Shikaru have it in him to best Akame and her Sharingan eyes!!?

The End

As the title says, worst match up. Nakama is simply OP. I guess by hokage standards as seen when konohamaru explained she's already chuunin, being able to corner and stretch her opponent to the edge; not even encumbered by her badass ability but analyzed her opponents ability and soloed him neg diff.

Well, the Nara geek would win this i think but he would definately become chuunin whatever happens in the next match.

Inase vs Kei. I hope that'll be epic, though her mind jutsu wont work on him so some gentle fist would do. Lol.

My review and prediction.

I appreciate both*_* lol

Yeah, it's a shame cause all her peers who could pose a challenge to her are on the other side of the bracket. lol The one who shows up on top will definitely give her a run for her money, though;) And there's a little nostalgia as far as Shikaru's match goes, but it definitely won't turn out exactly how Shikamaru's did, either.

Who said her mind jutsu wouldn't work on Kei? :) lol

Z’s loyalty and devotion is admirable but I couldn’t help finding false belief in Kagetsu being able to defeat Nakama amusing. Shikaru’s pessimistic outlook reminds me of myself-it’s so difficult to be optimistic so I can vouch for his character lol I loved the inclusion of Suigetsu as he is one of my favorite characters and that he defended a fellow clansman ^^ I was shocked with how that battle played out-Nakama appears to be pretty omnipotent! I was liking that Kagetsu was doing a good job of avoiding her but once her plan came to fruition, he disappointedly panicked as a result. I had forgotten just how powerful she really was so I suppose the outcome of this match was a given. I love that the next chapter will feature an Uchiha! ^^

Great writing as always! ;)

Yeah, when I was making the brackets, I kinda had to put these two together just cause of the dynamic (he becomes water, she can control water). Doesn't really work out well for Kagetsu, but y'know*_* lol

And I wouldn't say omnipotent. I assure you, she'll face her fair share of challenges down the road, too;)

Ah, well it was definitely interesting and simply the worst matchup for Kagetsu-poor guy lol

I see, that’s good to hear as I was thinking she might just defeat Airon and or Manako hands down lol It’s good to hear that even she will be facing some difficulties :)
