Alright, finally coming to the last of the power trio! *_* Nakama’s definitely got the most interesting abilities of the whole bunch, but also probably the most unrealistic. Hopefully, that’s not too big of a problem for you guys. lol Anyways, enjoy

Chapter 043: Nakama’s Tragic Beginnings
Mei: Hm? What do you mean by that, Lord Hokage?
Konohamaru: (He didn’t bother explaining himself to her, his mind far more focused on observing every second of the coming fight.) Just keep an eye out, my dear. …Look away for too long and you might just miss it.
Still longing for an answer, but nonetheless intrigued, Mei set her sights on Nakama, as did every other pair of eyes inside the tower. For those from the Leaf, the motive was anticipation for how she would begin the match, while for those visiting from elsewhere, the motive was to understand exactly what about the young kunoichi captivated those around them. Gaara was no exception to the latter, as Naruto’s unrelenting grin was more than enough to pique his curiosity.
Gaara: Rather excited about this one, aren’t we?
Naruto: (He didn’t bother looking up since, like Konohamaru, he didn’t want to risk missing the entire match.) If you only knew, Gaara.
Down below, B stepped forward, looking in either direction to ensure the readiness of the combatants before proceeding.
B: Alright, …if both y’all are ready, …begin!
His arm hadn’t even completely fallen when a small breeze began fluttering around Nakama, and a long pillar of earth suddenly rose from the ground in front of her opponent. Not even aware of its presence, the suddenness and sheer force of the impact as it pressed against his chest and sent him crashing into the wall immediately robbed him of his consciousness. The match was over almost immediately after it began, but B was much too preoccupied to officially announce the results, as was almost everyone else in the arena, staring blankly at Nakama as they wondered exactly how she did that. The young kunoichi herself paid them no mind and smiled up at Airon, who returned the gesture before turning to his sister.
Airon: (Hmhmhmhm…see, what did I tell ya?)
Inase: (Slightly irritated and disappointed that she didn’t call the bet before he did, she merely heaved a sigh and smiled back at him.) (Alright, fine. You got your money back.)
Feeling triumphant as ever, Airon grinned in satisfaction before suddenly realizing that the victory only counted if the final time remained below his own, a problem he fixed without hesitation.
Airon: You can call it at any time, proctor!
B: (Still lost in thought, he quickly returned to his senses upon hearing Airon’s voice.) Oh! Uhhh, the winner is…Nakama!
Having been patiently awaiting this announcement herself, she smiled cheerfully after hearing it before taking off towards the staircase, almost skipping as she did. Those on the balconies, however, were still mystified by what she did, though nobody could bring themselves to say a word about it Gaara finally spoke up.
Gaara: What kind of jutsu was that?
Naruto: (Having been recalling old memories this entire time, his head flew back a short ways as he heard Gaara’s voice.) It’s not a jutsu. …At least, I don’t think it is.
Gaara: Hm? What do you mean?
Naruto: (He stared down at Nakama as he spoke, pure wonderment evident in his voice.) That girl…she’s unlike anything I’ve ever seen in my life. She’s got pretty much no talent for taijutsu or genjutsu to speak of, and I’ve never seen her use even basic ninjutsu as long as I’ve known her, …but thanks to some mysterious power, she’s able to control all five elements in their purest forms.
He was forced to look to his side after a few seconds of silence, finding a wide-eyed Gaara in his wake. It wasn’t until several more seconds passed that the seasoned Kage finally conjured up a response to this shocking revelation.
Gaara: …Control them?
Naruto: (He nodded silently before shifting his gaze downwards, quickly recalling all the times he’d seen Nakama use the technique.) …Yeah. Fire, water, wind, earth, lightning. If she’s gets ahold of even the smallest amount of any of them, she can take control of them and use them for anything she wants, whether it’s to attack, shield, build, or destroy. She can even create more of whatever she’s controlling. One drop of rain could be used to sprout enough water to flood the entire village. One tiny flame could be used to make enough fire to burn down a whole forest. …You get the idea.
Gaara: (Still in disbelief, he looked down at the arena floor, towards the spot where she forced the earth to rise up from the ground.) A girl with that kind of power…born here in the Leaf?
Naruto: (He shook his head in response.) …No. She’s originally from the Hidden Rain Village. I found her walking alone through the city streets when she was about five. I was there as kind of an ambassador, looking to see how the village was holding up and what not. …You know, things got pretty unstable there after Nagato and Konan died.
Looking to his side to see what Gaara’s feedback would be, his silence – yet obvious interest in what he was saying – prompted him to continue.
Naruto: I wound up asking around for some more info on her before I decided to bring her back to the Leaf with me. Apparently, she first started showing off those skills when she was about three. Being unique and all, that kind of power obviously attracted a lot of people, …some more shady than others. Her parents were killed after their first attempt to kidnap her. After that, she just started living on her own, fending for herself. People helped her out and gave her food whenever they could, …but nobody had the guts to adopt her after what happened to her mom and dad. Heh, I’ll be honest, there were a few people that came here trying to kidnap her, too, but…
He paused for a brief moment to look over at the eldest of his three grandchildren, who greeted Nakama as she rejoined them on the upper levels. He smiled at the sight of them conversing before finishing up his anecdote.
Naruto: …she was a lot better protected here, so the attempts eventually stopped.
A short ways down the balcony, Nakama had indeed rejoined her friends and teammates, and was quick to question the results of their pool.
Nakama: So? What was the time?
Airon: Almost fifteen seconds. You just won me a hundred and twenty ryō.
Kei: Yeah, and only cause you had to blurt out that he was just standing there wasting time! Had he been paying attention, I would’ve won that bet!
Minto: Actually, Inase would’ve taken it. I told you, Kei, one second isn’t nearly realistic enough, even by Nakama’s standards.
Kei: (He still believed otherwise, but he quickly shrugged it off nonetheless.) Pffft…yeah, whatever.
Nakama giggled softly at this before reclaiming her spot beside Airon, whom she proceeded to look up at with a playful expression.
Nakama: (So, do I get a cut?)
Airon: (He smirked in amusement before returning her gaze.) (I don’t remember us making any deal like that. …Why, do you need it?)
Nakama: (Before she could answer, her face slowly began turning red, prompting her to look back down at the floor.) (Not really. …Just a joke is all.)
He continued to stare at her for a minute, knowing full well that there was obviously more to her “joke” than she was letting on. Despite her embarrassment, though, he couldn’t help but realize just how cute she was in that position and smiled at the sight, almost bursting into laughter upon noticing that she was also twiddling her thumbs.
Airon: (Hmhmhmhmhm, you really are adorable, you know that? …Huhhh, here.)
He reached into his pocket as she turned to face him, pulling out the small bundle of ryō he just won and holding it out in front of her, though she was hesitant to take it.
Nakama: (…But-)
Airon: (Just consider it a early birthday present.)
Nakama: (But, my birthday’s not until mid-July.)
Airon: (…It almost is mid-July, Nakama.)
Nakama: (Her face now completely red with embarrassment, she quickly snatched the money from his hand before turning away again.) (Oh, …right.)
He smiled once again at her almost innocent persona, though it disappeared shortly afterwards when he noticed that both Naruto and Gaara had begun moving towards the staircase.
Airon: Hey, Grandpa, what’s going on?
Naruto: (He turned his head slightly so he could see him as he continued walking away.) Konohamaru’s motioning for us to come over. …Things are probably gonna get a little more complicated in a minute.
Slightly confused, Airon looked towards the far end of the opposite balcony, where the incumbent Hokage was indeed holding his hand up in a gesturing motion, then back to Nakama and his siblings before redirecting his attention towards the arena floor, where B was giving another announcement.
B: This round of preliminaries has finally come to an end! Now, we’re gonna take a quick recess so we can figure out what the hell’s gonna happen next!
