Alright, just a few more matches to go! :yay: Kagetsu’s back in the spotlight for this one (I’m sure most of you already know what to expect from him*_* lol). Anyways, enjoy:)

Here’s my previous chapters, for those who missed any:

Chapter 041: Cheap Trickery

B: Alright!! Let’s hurry up and get to these last few matches!

Ten seconds passed as everyone left in the arena stared off towards the monitor in the corner of the room, the two rows of yellow letters flashing on the screen eventually being replaced with another pair of unused names.

B: The next match-up iiissss…Miyuki Otake and Kagetsu Hōzuki!!

While the genin looked off towards the closest of their newly announced peers, the surname of the latter quickly caught the nostalgic eye of several of the more seasoned shinobi, including Naruto.

Naruto: Hōzuki, huh? …Heh, I thought their names sounded similar.

Gaara: I do hope your kunoichi has what it takes to face a shinobi from such a highly regarded clan.

While Naruto nodded in agreement, on the opposite balcony, both combatants were bidding farewell to their teammates, though one was trying harder simply to get away than the other.

Vito: It’s you, Kagetsu! Hehehh hehehh, did you hear them, they called you! Hehehh hehehh, you’re gonna kill her, hehehh hehehh, you’re gonna kill her, right!? Hehehh hehehh hehehh, I know you can-

Kagetsu: DAMN IT, WOULD YOU SHUT UP ALREADY!!? I’M GOING, JEEZ!!! (Every time! Every freakin’ time!)

Finally pushing him away, Kagetsu hurried towards the staircase as he ran his hands across his face in both embarrassment and exhaustion, stopping midway when he felt someone’s knuckles tap against his shoulder. Turning around, he found Z standing before him who, while his street talk was no less confusing than Vito’s rants were irritating, was a much better sight than his insane teammate.

Z: Care for some non-psychotic love, my man?

He held his hand out in front of him as an invitation for a fist bump, which Kagetsu gladly accepted after a brief pause.

Z: Make her eat the floor, dog.

Kagetsu: You got it. (What the hell does that mean?)

As he continued on his walk towards the stairs, he passed by his opponent, who was receiving a much more ecstatic sendoff from her sensei.

Lee: Okay! It is time for all of your training to finally pay off! Just remember all that I taught you and never let go of the Power of Youth!!

Chan: (Somewhat embarrassed by his grandfather’s antics, he gave Miyuki an energetic sendoff of his own nonetheless, complete with his typical nice guy pose.) Do the Leaf village proud, Miyuki! This is our home turf, so you cannot lose, got that!?

Miyuki: (She lowered her head in embarrassment, but still proceeded to smile back at them as she returned Chan’s thumbs-up.) Got it.

When she made her way to the arena floor and towards her starting position, she found that her opponent previously aggravated expression had been replaced with one of smug confidence, which she met with both detestation and amusement.

Kagetsu: Hnh, and just when I thought I’d get stuck with the Kazekage’s kid or one of those Cloud genin. This is gonna be much easier.

Miyuki: (Taking her position, she reached behind her and slowly unzipped one of her many weapon pouches, meeting Kagetsu’s remark with a smirk.) You talk too much. If you’re so tough, then draw those swords of yours and show me what you’re really made of.

B: Alright, if both y’all are ready, …begin!

Without hesitation, Kagetsu quickly did as she dared him to, dashing forward with his katanas in hand as he deflected any kunai or shuriken she threw his way.

Kagetsu: You asked for it! Now you’re gonna get it!

Bypassing her last few projectiles, he lunged forward with both of his swords raised high over his hand, forcing Miyuki to take up two kunai and block his attack. This contest of endurance lasted for nearly a minute, Kagetsu’s superior strength giving him an edge as his swords gradually pushed Miyuki back further and further.

Miyuki: (Rrrrgh, this isn’t looking very good.)

Kagetsu: C’mon, those arms have to be getting pretty tired right about now. Am I right?

His observations were correct, as shown by how unsteady they were slowly becoming, but Miyuki continued to hold fast against his gradual advance. Quickly becoming desperate, Miyuki took a chance and shifted her gaze off to the side, hoping but not expecting that his eyes would follow. To her great surprise, though, she felt the force of his advance cease a little, allowing her to push him off and send him flying with a kick to the chest. Standing back up in a hurry, Kagetsu tightened his grip on his katanas as his breaths deepened, his gaping mouth morphing into a sharp-toothed scowl upon seeing her amused expression.

Kagetsu: (She tricked me…damn it!!)

Miyuki: I can’t believe you really fell for that! This might actually be easier than I thought!

Her remarks only deepened his rage, though before he could act on those feelings, he was bombarded by an endless sea of projectiles. His quick reflexes allowed him to use his swords to fend them off, prompting him to smirk at her futile efforts, only to find upon looking up at her that she was doing the same.

Miyuki: Gotcha!

A quick retraction of her hands revealed numerous strings attached to her fingers, each connected to one or more weapons laying behind her opponent. At such close proximity, deflecting them now would have been an impossible feat, forcing Kagetsu to brace himself for the impact. To Miyuki’s shock, though, upon making contact with his skin, all her weapons seemed to phase right through him, falling to the ground at his feet while those that flew past him stopped a short distance in front of hers.

Miyuki: Huh!?

She looked back up from her weapons on the floor to find Kagetsu’s body slowly dissolving into a jelly-like state, causing her eyes to widen as many of those watching from above began conversing with each other.

Naruto: (There it is.) I was wondering when he’d finally start using that.

Gaara: (He nodded in agreement as he observed the fight below.) …The Hōzuki clan’s Hydrafication technique. (I wonder how she plans to win this match now.)

Taking a moment to recover, Kagetsu slowly pulled himself back together – literally – giving off a smile that combined both relief and wicked intention when he turned back to his stunned opponent.

Kagetsu: Ahh, that’s more like it. …Now, why don’t we try that again?

Taking up his swords again, he charged forward once more, this time paying no heed to the weapons that came his way. Leaping several meters away to avoid his swords, Miyuki used the strings around her fingers a second time, bringing them together in a way that caused the weapons to which they were attached to form a large, yet extremely dense cloud of lethal instruments, which she then directed towards her opponent. To her shock and dismay, though, even this massive bombardment could not prevent his body from returning to its original shape, leaving her paralyzed with uncertainty.

Miyuki: (Darn it! Nothing’s working!)

Kagetsu: Ha! Not so clever now, are ya!?

Picking his swords up again once he had fully regenerated, he quickly resumed his charge as she pondered her next move. Resorting to her previous strategy, she raised her hands up again, only for Kagetsu to throw his swords towards her, slicing through every string wrapped around her fingers and causing what remained of them to fall limp.

Miyuki: (Oh no! What do I do now!?)

Panicking, she reached into the only pouch around her waist that wasn’t empty, finding to her joy that a handful of shuriken remained. Before she could throw them, though, Kagetsu reached out and grabbed her arm, pushing it down before spinning around and plowing his heel into her left cheek, sending her flying.

Lee and Chan: Miyuki!!

She returned to the ground mere seconds later, coughing up blood as she made impact. From there, she slid a short distance across the arena floor before coming to a halt, at which point Kagetsu, having retrieved his swords and returned them to the sheaths on his back, walked up to her to see if she was still in any condition to fight. As he expected, she was not, though he was surprised by her ability to still think of a snide remark.

Miyuki: That was a pretty cheap move…

Kagetsu: (Finding her attempt to explain her loss distasteful, he scoffed at her before turning around and walking away.) Hnh, you’re one to talk. …But yeah, I guess I’ll give you that one.

Catching wind of this offhand remark, she smiled before passing out, prompting B to raise his arm in the air to confirm the end of the match.

B: The winner is…Kagetsu Hōzuki!!

Up above, with the exception of Miyuki’s teammates, most spectators seemed mostly unsurprised by the outcome, including those who were originally rooting for her.

Gaara: She was close. …Some shinobi are just born with more talent, though.

Naruto nodded in agreement, but his own upbringing’s contradiction to that notion couldn’t help but bring a smile to his face. On the opposite balcony, Kagetsu reluctantly returned to his teammate’s side, who was jabbering at him in his typical unbalanced manner.

Vito: Hehehh hehehh hehehh, she almost had you there, Kagetsu. Hehehh hehehh, if you hadn’t used your-

Vito’s rant was quickly brought to a halt by a heavy blow to the face from Kagetsu’s fist, sending him falling unconscious to the ground as the latter heaved a huge sigh of relief.

Kagetsu: Ahh, bite me, why don’tcha? (Finally, some peace and quiet. …But yeah, she almost did.)

Paying him no further mind, he stepped forward and rested his arms atop the railing, watching intently as two medical-nin set his fallen opponent on a stretcher and carried her away.

B: Alright, then! Let’s get on with the next match!!

The large screen was once again illuminated by two rows of flashing letters, which flickered for another ten seconds as those remaining watched. With only four names yet to make appearance, Airon turned to Nakama, who was among them, in question.

Airon: (You have three opponents to choose from. …Any favorites?)

Nakama: (She pretended to consider it for a moment before looking up at him with a smile.) (Not really, as long as it’s not Sabure. …I think it’d be a shame if she lost her chance at the finals.)

Chuckling at her smug, albeit justified level of confidence, Airon nodded in agreement as the monitor finally stopped on two brand new names.

B: The next match-up iiissss…Tomoi and Sabure!!

Both kunoichi quickly leapt up onto the railing in front of them, intent on taking the easy way down, before turning to bid farewell to their teammates. For Tomoi, this meant a much more fulfilling sendoff from the ecstatic Z.

Z: Show her what’s good, my girl!

Tomoi: You got it, Z! (His girl…he called me his girl…)

As Tomoi fell to the floor below, Ryūza offered his sister a few last words of advice before she did the same.

Ryūza: Show her no mercy, Sabure.

Sabure: (Fully aware of his occasional homicidal tendencies, she looked down at him with a small frown on her face.) And what’s your definition of showing mercy, Ryūza?

Ryūza: (Understanding full well what she was thinking, he turned away in a fit of minor shame.) Just…hold nothing back.

Yatsuri: (Seeing where this altercation was heading, he quickly put a stop to any further remarks, while still maintaining an air of nonchalance.) Sabure, would you just get down there already? We got two more matches left and I wanna go home.

She followed her cousin’s wishes without hesitation, falling down to the arena floor and taking her position directly across from Tomoi, who was already sporting a confident smirk and an unsheathed katana. Checking to ensure Sabure was also prepared, B lifted his arm into the air, also eager to bring these preliminaries to a long-awaited end.

B: Alright, …if both y’all are ready, …begin!

Kagetsu Hōzuki advances with minor difficulty, but what are Tomoi’s chances against Sabure’s Glass Release!!?

Suigetsu is one of my favorite characters and a Houzuki is the next battler so I’m happy lol Kagetsu sure is rude and arrogant but such is the nature of a Houzuki so it seems :) Poor Miyuki, she never had a chance. the Houzuki is definitely a fearsome clan do to their powerful signature jutsu and this was just one of the worst type matches ever unfortunately. I’m liking the next matchup-it appears like the next chapter will be pretty intense!

This was a fantastic chapter and I thought you displayed Kagetsu perfectly ;)

Yeah, he's a snob like the rest of 'em, but he also acknowledges whenever someone's right about something or powerful, so he's not a complete douche:) lol And thanks, man*_*
