Okay, yes, it’s cheesy, but this is where I ended up getting my username – from an old OC of mine*_* lol Once you read it, though, you’ll see why. Anyways, enjoy
Here’s my previous chapters, for those who missed any:
Chapter 040: The Chakra Wizard
His words were genuine, but despite this, Airon still hesitated to make his next move. After a few minutes of standing there waiting, Asuka finally gave in and decided to look into why.
Asuka: Did you still have a question you wanted to ask?
Airon: (Recalling their quid pro quo from earlier, he gazed over at him, replying after another brief hesitation.) …Yes, actually. You were staring at me all the way up to the beginning of our match, which means you obviously saw me discard all my weapons before I came down here, …so exactly how do you plan to kill me when I have nothing for you to do it with?
After a short pause on his part, Asuka complied, taking a deep breath as his eyes began glowing once again, briefly lifting the shade of his illusion and allowing Airon to see what state he was really in – his hands wrapped around his neck as his face was slowly drained of its color, his terrified friends and family looking on from the balcony. Before he could respond in this state, though, Asuka dropped the curtain again, prompting all these “distractions” to vanish once more. Taking a moment to rub his neck, the pain from which he could now slightly feel, he looked back up at Asuka with another false smirk.
Airon: A little old-fashioned, isn’t it?
Asuka: (Surprised by his calmness, he answered with a smirk of his own.) Perhaps, but it’s effective nonetheless. …So, now you know. If you fail to get out of this genjutsu on your next attempt, which I’d recommend you make soon, …I’ll force you to choke yourself to death.
Once again, though, Airon was hardly listening to him speak, instead focusing his attention on the edge of the balcony between two rails, …where laid his partially unsheathed sword.
Airon: Well, I guess it’s a good thing I have no intention of losing, then.
Asuka: (He could only shake his head at the level of false hope he believed Airon was displaying right about now.) They all say that, …but taking your own words and turning them on you, how exactly do you plan to kill me when you have nothing to do it with?
Seeing an opportunity for theatricality, he smiled and held out his hand, gazing up at his sword out of the corner of his eye as it slowly dipped over the balcony.
Airon: Oh, that’s easy. …With just a snap of my fingers.
With that, the sword flew from its sheath and fell to the floor below, stopping midair just behind Asuka, whose left shoulder it proceeded to plunge through with little impediment.
Asuka: AAAAHHHH!!!!
Overcome by pain, he fell to the ground as blood spilled from his wound, his genjutsu finally broken. Immediately, Airon removed his hands from his neck and inhaled deeply, a quick step forward just barely preventing him from falling to the ground, as well. While those on the balcony in front of him took on looks of relief and satisfaction, he slowly walked up to his injured opponent, quickly but smoothly extracting the sword and wiping its blade against the inside of his black overcoat. Once it was cleaned to his liking, he kneeled down over top of him and placed his hand over his wound as he continued to scream through the pain.
Airon: Relax, it was just the shoulder. Unlike you, I have no intentions of killing my opponents, no matter how pathetic they are.
After a few seconds of concentration, his hand was enveloped by a greenish shade of chakra, as was the open wound beneath it, which slowly but surely began closing.
Asuka: You…ngh…cheated…
Airon: (Half-expecting an accusation like this, he couldn’t help but chuckle at it.) Hmhmhmhmhm, and how do you figure that?
Asuka: What the hell do you think!? Rrrrgh…you had someone throw your sword at me, then you-
Airon: Sorry, Asuka, but I’m gonna have to stop you right there.
His intrusion prompting him to look up at him, Asuka looked on in shock as Airon began balancing the tip of his sword on one of his fingers, the only point of concern being that it wasn’t touching his finger at all.
Asuka: What the…hell?
Airon: (Taking a great deal of pleasure out of this, he gave him a devilish grin as he continued playing around with it.) Pretty, ain’t it? This is what happens I infuse my chakra into the hilt of my sword. Now it works just like a magic trick, …so no matter what kind of danger or distance stands between us, I always have this sword to count on when I’m in a pinch.
He stopped messing around just moments later, laying the sword flat before allowing it to fall into his open hand, all the while Asuka continued to contemplate exactly how things turned out this way.
Asuka: But how? I had you…ngh…trapped. You couldn’t have-
Airon: Yes, and someone with worse chakra control than mine might’ve stayed that way. You might be able to hinder my BODY’S movements, Asuka, …but I KNOW when I am and when I’m not using my chakra. Even your little parlor tricks couldn’t stop that huge burst of it I made early on from having some effect, not to mention the smaller one I tried later on without a hand sign just to make sure I wasn’t imagining things. …But you know, if you had paid a little more attention, you might’ve gone ahead and blocked out my weapons, as well, then this never would’ve happened.
Having maintained a playful expression up until this point, it quickly vanished when he saw Asuka’s spiteful reaction to his blunt remark, as did his attempts to close what was left of his opponent’s wound.
Airon: You got too cocky, Asuka. That’s just the way it works. Maybe next time we meet up, you’ll take the time to build on your other talents instead of this genjutsu that wasn’t as invincible as you thought it was.
Asuka: (Still not accepting it, he continued to defend his pride until the very end.) It’s not possible…it’s just not-
Having grown tired of this one-sided conversation, not to mention wary of the fact that they were still in the middle of a match, Airon carefully moved his sword behind Asuka’s head, knocking him unconscious with one swift blow from his hilt. After this, he stood back up, waiting until Inase kicked his sheath down to him before placing his sword inside of it and wrapping it back around his waist.
Airon: (Nothing’s impossible, Asuka. Why don’t you take some time to rest and figure that out for yourself?)
B: The winner is…Airon Namikaze!!
While those around them began cheering for the victor, Gaara turned to Naruto to share his own views on the match.
Gaara: Your grandson’s chakra control is astounding, Naruto.
Naruto: (Being self-centered as he often was, he smirked as though that compliment was directed towards him.) Heh, believe me, Gaara. That was only a taste of it.
Gaara: Huh?
Naruto: Airon’s gifted in a lot of different ways, as you already saw, but his biggest strength by far is his chakra control. I’m telling you, when he was in the Academy, they used to call him an “unnatural genius” cause of how talented he was. They pretty much had to redefine just how high chakra control levels could go after he graduated, not to mention it made it a hell of a lot easier to train him. By the time he was ten, I’d already taught him things I didn’t learn until I was way older. And he did them better, too, which is amazing. Jutsu that took up most of my chakra, he could do with not even a small chunk of his. Jutsu I learned to do second nature, he barely needed any chakra at all. …I tell you, it’s like magic the things he can do with just his pure chakra alone…heh, hence that nickname I gave him back when he was still a kid.
Gaara: Hm? What nickname was that?
Naruto: You’ll laugh.
Gaara: Naruto, when have you ever known me to laugh?
Naruto: (Knowing all too well how true, he couldn’t help but laugh at him.) Hehehahahaha, alright, fine! I used to call him the…the “Chakra Wizard”.
Just as he assured him, Gaara gave no hints whatsoever that he found this title humorous, though it didn’t stop Naruto from half-expecting a small chuckle of some sort. The two looked off to the side as Airon returned to the balcony, at which point Gaara shared his real thoughts on the nickname.
Gaara: It fits.
Naruto: (He nodded as a proud smile illuminated his face.) Yeah, …it sure does.
After walking past Sai’s team, all of whom proceeded to congratulate him, Airon made his way back towards his own peers, proceeded to pick up all his discarded weapons as Manako remarked on his daredevil attitude.
Manako: (You really do like to play things close to the chest, Airon.)
Airon: (Hmhmhm, I’m sorry, Manako. I didn’t know I’d been keeping that a secret from everyone.)
He finished tying his last pouch around his waist before turning to face his siblings, at which point Nakama walked up to him and smacked him on the arm.
Nakama: Jerk! You scared the devil out of me! I thought you were gonna get yourself killed!
Airon: (Genuine guilt suddenly began growing inside him, though he maintained his playful expression to keep up appearances.) Well, Nakama, thanks for having such strong faith in me.
Inase: (Not nearly as tolerant of his recklessness as Nakama, she quickly jumped in once she backed out.) Airon, don’t walk away from that! Every one of us here thought Asuka was gonna kill you at some point! We know everything about you, we didn’t know a thing about him!
Airon: (He paid her little mind, resting his arms on the railing beside Manako as he smiled in amusement.) Hence all my preplanning, little sister. You don’t really think I would’ve just marched down there if I seriously doubted that I would come back alive, do you?
Inase: (Seeing the truth in this, she reluctantly let the matter go this time.) Yeah, perhaps not.
Nakama: You still scared us, y’know.
Airon: Yeah, I know. …I’m sorry.
As he turned his attention towards the arena floor, where Asuka was being placed on a stretcher and carried out, Naruto walked up behind him and placed his hand on his shoulder, much to his surprise.
Naruto: You did do a great job, though, Airon. I’m very proud of you.
Airon: (His first genuine feel-good smile since before his match began, he looked up at him with a sense of true accomplishment all the other congratulatory remarks couldn’t top.) …Thanks, Grandpa.
As Naruto walked back over beside Gaara, another thought suddenly clicked inside Airon’s head, prompting him to turn to his brother in question.
Airon: By the way, who won the pool this round?
Kei: (His sudden inquiry caught him off guard, having completely forgotten about the pool himself.) Huh? …Uhhhh, I dunno. We lost track of time watching your match.
Those around him smirked in amusement as they all turned towards B, eager to see who would be starting off the last three matches of the preliminaries.
Airon pulls off an astounding upset against the Stone village’s greatest illusionist!!!
