And so it begins! lol Should be an interesting start to the match. Anyways, enjoy

Chapter 038: Trapped
Their names were just announced, but neither Airon nor Asuka seemed eager to head down to the arena floor just yet. They continued standing in their previous spots, staring at one another from across the room as though they were daring their opponent to make the first move. Those surrounding Airon could tell just how engaged he was in this upcoming battle, except for a few obvious cases, whose interests lied elsewhere.
Kei: Alright! I say fifty ryō for Airon to win in thirty seconds!
Minto: (More aware of what was currently going on with Airon than Kei, he placed much more thought into his bet this time around.) I’ll match it for five minutes.
Inase: (Hardly invested in their pool anymore, she continued looking beside her at Airon with the hope that he’d snap out of his daze sometime soon.) Airon?
Kei: You gonna place your bet, bro?
Airon gave no response to him, instead continuing his staring contest with Asuka until he eventually caved in and began moving towards the staircase, keeping his eyes on Airon as he walked. With this, he finally acknowledged his friends’ presence once again, looking at Inase as he reached for one of the pouches around his waist.
Airon: Count me out this round. (I have no clue how this match’ll turn out.)
Before Inase could say anything back, he undid the button on the strap and allowed the weapons pouch to fall to his feet. He did the same with the second pouch and any other weapons he had stashed away on his person, but before he could do the same with his sword, he stopped and towards his best friend, who was still sitting against the wall.
Airon: Minto.
Minto: Hm?
Airon: (He held his hand out behind him, keeping his eyes on Asuka as he spoke.) Gimme a mint.
Minto: (He hesitated for a moment.) …Sorry, bud. All out.
Airon: (Not accepting this answer in the slightest, he turned around and flexed his fingers to let him know his request still stood.) …Check again.
Seeing no way out of this, Minto reluctantly began digging through his pockets, eventually finding a small stack of white mints wrapped in previously opened foil, one of which he placed in Airon’s outstretched hand.
Minto: Oh. …There you go.
Airon: (He was about to recoil his hand, but a quick glance back at Asuka prompted him to pause once again.) On second thought, gimme two of ‘em.
Minto: What!? Airon, c’mon! I’m not made of these things!
Airon: Minto, I wouldn’t be surprised if you were.
Seeing the look in his eyes, Minto finally caved in and put another mint in Airon’s hand before hastily returned the stack to his pocket. After tossing both of them into his mouth, Airon unfastened the strap holding his sheath in place, dropping it at his feet and gently pushing it behind Inase.
Airon: (Kick it behind Kei as soon as I’m gone.)
Inase: (Got it.)
While Airon double-checked himself to ensure he had no more weapons left on his person, Manako left him with a few more words of encouragement.
Manako: (You better have a viable strategy for how to deal with those eyes of his, Airon. …I don’t need you losing before I get the chance to face you.)
Airon: (Feeling no different, he chuckled softly to himself as he gazed back at him.) (Wouldn’t dream of it.)
After that, he placed his hands on the railing, but before he could jump over it, he heard one last person call for him.
Nakama: Airon.
He instantly brought a halt to his actions and turned around to face her, curiosity evident on his face as he waited for her to speak. After several seconds of waiting, she finally settled on some last-minute advice, though her worried expression made it seem as though she had other words in mind.
Nakama: Don’t get yourself killed, okay?
A bit touched by her concern, he smiled gently to give her some reassurance, a gesture she returned before he turned to his grandfather who, to his surprise, had yet to say anything to any of his grandchildren before their matches started. Naruto quickly picked up on this before speaking up.
Naruto: Heh, as if I really needed to tell you three had to fight, Airon. If it means that much to you, though, just remember if you’re not too sure about somebody you’re fighting…for God’s sake, don’t play around with them too much.
Airon: (He smirked in amusement before turning back around.) Grandpa, when have you ever known me to mess around?
With that, he jumped on top of the railing once again and leaped, perfecting Kei’s earlier attempt to show off while including a few extra somersaults for added effect. Once he hit the floor, though, rather than remaining in the spot facing away from his balcony, he walked over to the other starting position, coincidentally just before Asuka arrived at it. Seemingly paying no mind to this minor insult, he quickly closed the distance between them before speaking up.
Asuka: I’ve been waiting some time for this.
Airon: Hmhm, flattery won’t get you anywhere.
Asuka: …I wasn’t flattering you.
The smile Airon was wearing as he made his own smart remark quickly vanished as Asuka walked away, turning around once he was in his starting position. Looking back and forth between them to ensure they were ready to fight, B raised his arm once again.
B: Alright, …if both y’all are ready, …begin!
As soon as he started the match, Airon looked up to his sister, who gave him a thumbs-up to ensure she had followed his request. Returning the gesture with a smile, he glared back at Asuka, whose eyes had suddenly begun to glow blue, just as he had seen them do once before.
Airon: (Hmph, it’s not gonna be that easy.)
He quickly closed his eyes to avoid the genjutsu, having no intention of falling under the spell of his technique this early on. To his surprise, though, while he could feel the motion of him lowering his eyelids, everything in front of him was still clear as day.
Airon: (What the…)
He attempted to close his eyes a second time, finding once again that the motion was there while the desired result was not. He repeated this process several more times, his aggravation increasing with each failed attempt.
Airon: (What can’t I shut my eyes!? What the heck’s going-)
Finally realizing what was happening, he rubbed his eyes in both annoyance and embarrassment before looking up, finding that Asuka’s eyes had stopped glowing and returned to their original black color.
Airon: So, …that’s how it works, isn’t it?
Asuka: Hm?
Airon: You don’t cast your jutsu once your eyes start to glow. …Your eyes start glowing after you’ve cast your jutsu.
Asuka: (A bit surprised by how quickly Airon caught on, he gave a menacing chuckle to confirm his accuracy.) Hmhmhm, seems you figured it out. …A tad too late, though, I must say.
Airon: (He answered this threat with his usual sarcastic smile.) Who said this match was already over?
Asuka: (He answered in kind with his own casual expression, that being his ominous frown.) I did.
Airon: Really now? So you’re not even gonna try to make this a bit more interesting?
Asuka: I’ve already effectively killed you. What’s there to make more interesting?
Airon: Well, I do have one idea in mind, …if you’re willing to keep me alive long enough to hear it.
Asuka: (What the hell is he playing at?) …I’m listening.
Airon: (He did his best to suppress a grin, not wanting to do anything that might change Asuka’s mind.) Well, here’s what I think. I think you’ve never once faced an opponent capable of breaking out of your genjutsu…and I believe that I can be the first to do it. So, just gimme five chances to prove that to you, and if I’m still trapped after the fifth attempt, …you’re free to take my life as and how you see fit.
Asuka said nothing in response. He was far too busy considering this offer of his, not to mention what might happen if Airon did, in fact, find a way out of his genjutsu. In the back of his mind, he knew that the cons far outweighed the pros and it would be less troublesome for him just to kill him right there and now, but in the front, …he simply couldn’t shake how much he enjoyed the idea.
Asuka: (He seems like one of those guys I can’t afford to toy around with for very long, …but I do enjoy a good challenge.) …Make it three.
Airon: (There was no stopping him from grinning this time.) Hmhmhm, …you got it. (This one’s as good as mine.)
Without a moment’s hesitation, he clasped his hands together to form a hand sign, quickly halting all the chakra within his body as his grandfather had taught him. Once he felt that all movement had ceased within his chakra system, he immediately let out a scream as it came roaring back, forcing Asuka to block his eyes as an enormous cloud of bright blue energy enveloped his foe.
Airon’s cunning buys him more time to escape his fate, …but can he make good use of it!!?
The End

I should probably work on consistency more after this. That “Airon asking Minto for mints” bit was supposed to be a running gag, but I haven’t gotten around to using it until now. lol
