Alright, I finally get to showcase some of Irezumi’s talents (he’s one of my favorite OCs, so I’ve been waiting quite a while for this*_*). This one actually turned out pretty short, but the next chapter has two fights in it, so that should make up for it. lol Anyways, enjoy

Chapter 036: The Tattoo Artist
Not even a second after B started the match, Chōzen’s hands were locked in a seal, determined to take Irezumi down before he had a chance to attack himself.
Chōzen: Ninja Art: Partial Expansion Jutsu!
While Chōzen’s arms began swelling to enormous proportions, Irezumi made no movements whatsoever, something that shocked those unfamiliar with his abilities and brought amusement to a small percentage of the rest. For Chōzen, however, he truly believed he had acted too quickly for him to react, and proceeded to smash his giant hands against either side of him without hesitation.
Chōzen: Gotcha!!
Hardly a second after he seemingly compressed his opponent between his huge palms, he was forced to pull them back out of pain, finding that Irezumi was still in good health and that his hands had been set ablaze.
Chōzen: Yeeeoooowwww!!
Irezumi: (While Chōzen thrashed about violently before finally patting the fire down, he blew away the embers dancing on his fingertips, revealing small likenesses to flames painted on each of his nails.) That was awfully close, Chōzen. It’s a good thing I have fast reflexes, isn’t it?
While others struggled to figure out exactly what Irezumi did, those who knew him – and weren’t also rooting for Chōzen – smiled nostalgically. It wasn’t until Airon finally called out to him that everyone returned their attention back to what was happening.
Airon: You just gonna stand there all day or are you gonna let them see your handiwork up close!?
Hesitant, but still delighted to finally do so, Irezumi proceeded to rip away the sleeves of his coat, thus revealing – to the shock of everyone with no prior knowledge – countless tattoos of different sizes and designs spread out across his arms, including his shoulders and hands.
Sabure: Are those…tattoos?
Yatsuri: (He hesitated to answer her, still just as surprised as she was by he’d just seen.) Yeah…and a whole lot of them to boot.
Expecting a remark to be made by his old teammate, Sai began walking down the balcony towards Naruto and Gaara, the former of whom quickly did as he predicted.
Naruto: Some of those don’t look very familiar, Sai. Is he still finding places to add new ones?
Sai: (Smiling, this time genuinely, he looked down at his grandson in reminiscence.) He sure is. …Sometimes, I wonder if he’ll ever stop.
Gaara: (Still in the dark, he looked over to Sai for answers, starting with what his exchange with Naruto had just revealed.) Those tattoos were self-made?
Sai: (Looking up at Gaara for a moment, he redirected his gaze back to Irezumi before replying.) Indeed they were. Irezumi likes to draw the designs beforehand to ensure perfection, then he carefully applies them using the same kind of ink I use for my paintings. Our techniques are actually quite similar. Once they’re finished, he needs only channel his chakra into them and they immediately spring to life. From there, he can control them to do virtually anything he wants.
Gaara: (Both surprised and impressed by what he was hearing, he inquired of him further.) What is the technique’s range? And what kinds of tattoos does he have?
Sai: (He thought about his answer for a moment, eventually settling on one that brought a smile of satisfaction to his face.) Truth be told, I don’t think he has any limits at all.
Gaara: Hm?
Sai: The range of the technique relies almost entirely on Irezumi’s chakra supply, with the amount of chakra he channels into a specific tattoo determining both the size he can make it and the power of its attacks. His chakra levels are almost five times my own, so his possibilities are very high in that regard. …As for the different designs, Irezumi’s managed to outshine me in almost every way. Where I stick primarily to animals, he’s gone above and beyond to create things like weapons and even substances like fire, as you just saw. …His creativity astounds me even now. I’m not sure if he’ll ever truly run out of ideas for new tattoos.
As Gaara took in all of this, Irezumi and Chōzen’s standoff continued down below. The former was merely smirking, half-expecting his opponent to forfeit now that he was primed to fight. Having been promised barbeque, though, Chōzen would have nothing of it, merely gritting his teeth and clasping his hands together once again to perform his clan’s signature technique.
Chōzen: Ninja Art: Expansion Jutsu!!
He began to swell up a second time, only now, rather than merely his arms, his entire body quickly grew to ten times its original size, easily dwarfing Irezumi as his head rose above the balconies on either side of him. He took a moment to look ahead, exchanging a confident expression with his sensei before looking back down at his opponent, raising his fist over his head with the intent of bringing him down with one or two attempts.
Chōzen: YOU’RE MINE NOW!!
He quickly brought his right hand down, producing scattered rubble as Irezumi soared over his head and landed on his back, narrowly avoiding his left elbow as he leapt a second time. Landing several meters behind his opponent, Irezumi extended his arms out in front of him as he began focusing his chakra, causing two of his tattoos to start glowing blue.
Irezumi: (Have it your way.) Ninja Art: Super Beasts Tattoo! Iron Whip and Wolf Pack!
As he called out their titles, the first immediately sprang to life, producing a long, barbed whip which he took into his hand. As Chōzen stood back up and turned around, he quickly swung it forward, catching him around the ankles and causing him to trip. No sooner after he hit the ground, Irezumi’s second tattoo sprang forth, with it coming a pack of roughly a dozen brown-furred, vicious-looking dogs, who proceeded to jump on top of Chōzen once Irezumi bid them to. Without hesitation, they sank their teeth into his opponent, causing minimal damage thanks to his enlarged size, but more than enough to make him panic nonetheless.
Chōzen: Ah! AAHHH!!
As the Iron Whip evaporated from his hand and color returned to the respective tattoo on his arm, Irezumi leapt into the air and on top of Chōzen’s stomach, kneeling down and staring him with a somewhat menacing smile.
Irezumi: Is it over yet?
Chōzen: Ahh, yes! Yes!! Just get these things off me!!
B: (Hearing this, he smiled and quickly threw his arm up to give the result.) The winner is…Irezumi!
With a snap of his fingers, Irezumi immediately called off the pack, causing them to evaporate just as his first tattoo did, afterwhich he jumped off his opponent as he began shrinking back to his normal size. Several of their spectators seemed impressed with Irezumi’s skills, as judged by their expressions, while a select few seemed equally upset with the match’s outcome – Chōzen’s teammates, of course.
Inoka: What a wimp! He didn’t even try to brush them off when he got pinned down! He just kept waving around until he finally cried uncle!
Shikaru: (Disappointed with his friend’s loss, but equally irritated with Inoka’s words, he scoffed at her silently from just a few feet away.) (And you were any different when Ide pummeled you?)
Kogane: (More vocal about her mannerisms than Shikaru, she gently placed her hand on Inoka’s shoulder, causing her to turn around and shrink back upon seeing her displeased expression.) That’s enough, Inoka. Chōzen did very well with what he had to work with. …Irezumi’s just a very talented shinobi. You both know that.
Both of them nodded in understanding, meanwhile further on down the balcony, Gaara’s grandchildren continued to express how impressed they were with the genin in this competition.
Ryūza: The shinobi of your village continue to amaze me. …In all honesty, I’d like the chance to fight all of you now.
Sabure: I’ll definitely second that.
Airon: Hmhm, maybe you’ll get the chance. (Or maybe the Leaf will dominate this year’s finals.)
Nakama chuckled softly at this while Manako smirked in amusement, the three of them looking back down at the arena floor moments later. Having returned to his original size, Chōzen continued to lay there on the ground, regretful of the match’s outcome – for obvious, more gluttonous reasons. It wasn’t until Irezumi walked up and offered his hand to him that he finally snapped out of it, taking hold of it after a moment’s hesitation.
Irezumi: Sorry about that. …I just couldn’t pass up the chance to face Manako or Airon.
Chōzen: (Thinking over it for a second, he cast off his disappointment and smiled back at him.) Ehh, don’t mention it. To be honest, you probably did me a favor if you think about it that way.
Irezumi proceeded to chuckle at this, Chōzen joining him a few seconds later. After that, they returned to the balcony together, ready to see what the rest of the preliminaries had in store.
