I think this is the first time I’ve ever shown Taigen’s abilities, so I hope I did alright*_* (Yeah, it’s the same for Takeshi, but he’s not as prominent a character as himxd) This one’s pretty short, so it shouldn’t be too big a hassle to read, either. Anyways, enjoy:)

Here’s my previous chapters, for those who missed any:

Chapter 028: Untouchable

Immediately, Takeshi leapt into the air and came crashing down on Taigen’s location, the impact as his spiked hand connected with the floor sending several pieces of it flying. Thinking for a second that he might’ve pummeled the young shinobi into oblivion, his attention was directed elsewhere as a large piece of rubble connected with his face. Several feet away from him was Taigen, completely unscathed. Finding his initial impression of him to be off, Takeshi shot him a smirk as he returned to his feet.

Takeshi: Hmm, you’re pretty fast, kid.

Taigen answered his opponent’s flattery with a smile and a simple defensive stance. Takeshi, in turn, charged him with all the speed he could muster, but every powerful swing he made towards the young genin came only within inches of making contact. In the meantime, Taigen took advantage of every opening Takeshi made while attacking to deliver a small blow of his own, though none of them were enough to deliver any serious damage. The spectators overhead watched this carry on for several minutes, many of them expressing worry for one of the two combatants, particularly Amiko.

Amiko: That boy has some quick feet. …You don’t think he can beat Takeshi just by dodging his attacks, though, do you?

Asuka said nothing in response. He was much too busy watching the fight carry out, intrigued by the strategy Taigen seemed to be employing.

Asuka: (Tire him out with small attacks while dodging his own, then deliver one final blow when his body’s had enough. …Quite the risky approach there, kid. Best hope your footing doesn’t slip.)

On the opposite balcony, Taigen’s teammates were also discussing the match, while Team Naruto, Manako, and Akame stood nearby.

Kei: Oooo, nearly had him there! Come on, Taigen! Stay on your toes! You got this-

Inase: (She quickly put an end to his incessant cheers with a smack to the back of his head.) Pipe down, Kei. Taigen needs all the concentration in the world if he hopes to pull this off.

Minto: (He continued to watch the match intensively as his comrades talked around him, worried that Taigen might get injured at any moment.) He can do it, though, right? Taigen can avoid his attacks?

Nakama: (Amused by Minto’s ever-present concern for Taigen’s wellbeing, she smiled and gently placed her hand on his shoulder to ease his tension.) Of course he can, Minto. He just needs to hold out a little while longer and Takeshi will eventually run out of stamina.

Akame: (Not nearly as convinced of Taigen’s skill as Nakama was, she closely observed the match from a more critical perspective, her Sharingan active as she did.) Hmph, you sure about that? I’m looking at this Takeshi guy’s chakra level and he’s got quite a bit to go off of. Your teammate has just over half of that. He may be dodging his attacks now, but eventually, he’s gonna cave in long before-

Her rant was cut short by a soft nudge from Manako’s elbow. Looking up to find both her cousin and Airon glaring at her, she bit her tongue from that point on and returned her focus to the match below, making sure to hide how well their act of intimidation had worked. When this was done, the two powerhouses did the same, while Airon replied to Akame’s pessimistic commentary.

Airon: You clearly don’t know Taigen as well as we do, Akame. A capable shinobi can make the most of even the smallest amount of chakra and if you watch more closely, Takeshi’s chakra level is declining much faster than Taigen’s is. At this rate, he’ll have more than enough left over when his opponent finally exhausts his resources.

Akame: (Seeing nothing wrong with critiquing his observations since he did the same with hers, she quickly did so.) Is that so? …And what makes you so sure that Takeshi won’t land a hit before then?

Airon: (Amused by her continued attempts to discredit him, he shook his head as a smirk formed on his face.) Taigen might not be the fastest genin here, but his flexibility and evasive skills are almost on par with Manako’s. I can’t recall one time he’s ever been injured in combat, …even by me.

Manako: (Knowing that Airon was now exaggerating his claims, he glanced over at his rival with a know-it-all expression.) And exactly how many times have you faced him in combat?

Airon: (He answered him with a soft chuckle as he turned his attention back towards the match.) Hmhmhmhm, …well, I do my best not to fight my friends unless I have to…with your sole exception, Manako.

While Manako smirked in reaction to Airon’s remark, Takeshi’s attempts to hit Taigen persisted, his desperation increasing as each attack came further and further away from connecting. Simultaneously, Taigen continued to deliver several weak counterattacks each time his opponent left himself open in an effort to drain his energy at a faster rate, a tactic Takeshi was gradually beginning to fall victim to.

Takeshi: (Jeez, …this kid’s putting up a bigger fight than I would’ve thought. …Might have to be more creative with this one.)

He lunged forward to deliver yet another missed punch, but as Taigen reached inwards to retaliate, Takeshi leaped into the air, forming several hand signs as Taigen looked on in shock.

Takeshi: (Gotcha!) Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!

As a sea of never-ending flames spewed from Takeshi’s lips, Taigen struggled to think of a countermeasure, eventually settling with the quickest and simplest method he could think of.

Taigen: Earth Style: Enclosing Wall!

Forming the hand signs required to perform the technique and pressing his hands to the ground, a thin wall of earth quickly emerged and formed an arch over the young genin, successfully deflecting every flame from Takeshi’s jutsu. His attack having failed, the Rock genin returned to the ground, panting heavily after having used such a taxing technique.

Takeshi: (Rrrrrgghhh…alright, then. Let’s see how well you do when you can’t see my attacks.)

Reaching into his pouch and grabbing a handful of smoke bombs, he quickly scattered them across the floor, releasing an enormous cloud of fog that covered almost every inch of the arena. Covering his face with his arms, Taigen waited until the smoke had finished spreading before opening his eyes again, keeping his ears perked to make sure that whatever countermeasure Takeshi was planning ended in failure. He waited nearly thirty seconds for his attack to commence, taking several whiffs of the air here and there in hopes of sniffing him out beforehand. All of a sudden, a low ringing in his ear alerted him to his opponent’s location – directly above him – and he quickly somersaulted out of the way as Takeshi came crashing down on his location, forming a small crater as his spiked knuckles made impact and leaving him temporarily stunned for the next three seconds. However, this was more than enough time for Taigen to form a few more hand signs and press his hands to the ground, producing another thin wall of earth which collided with Takeshi’s chest as it shot up from the ground.

Takeshi: (What the…how? There’s no way he could’ve…heard…)

Tumbling over on his back, Takeshi coughed up a small amount of blood before passing out in the next second. As Taigen’s technique resubmerged itself within the floor, the fog from Takeshi’s smoke bombs finally began to disperse, revealing the match’s result to the patiently awaiting spectators.

B: The winner is Taigen!!

As those who rooted for Taigen began cheering in celebration, Amiko threw her hands over her mouth and quickly leapt over the railing and ran to Takeshi’s side, followed shortly by an indifferent Asuka.

Amiko: Takeshi! Are you alright!?

Takeshi: (Having briefly regained consciousness, he looked up at Amiko with a smile, only for it to disappear again once he saw Asuka.) The kid had talent. …Ngh, what can I say?

Asuka: (He didn’t bother standing around any longer and returned to the higher levels, scoffing at his teammate’s attempt to justify his loss.) How pathetic. …Seems you weren’t cut out to be a chūnin, after all.

Takeshi: (Seeing Amiko’s dispirited expression in reaction to Asuka’s cold words, he gently tapped her on the arm to get her attention.) Forgot about me, alright? I lost this one fair and square. You just be sure to keep your guard up. …Who knows? You could be up next.

She looked down at him for a moment, her mouth gaping slightly, before nodding and getting up to leave as two medical-nin with a stretcher came over to fetch him. In the meantime, Taigen returned to his teammates on the opposite side of the arena, all of them ecstatic about his victory.

Suzaku: I’m very proud of you, Taigen. Well done.

Taigen: (He looked up at him with a smile and nodded.) Thanks, Sensei.

Minto: (He walked up behind him and threw his arm around him.) See, buddy? Nothing to worry about, just like I said.

Taigen: Hehe, yeah, I guess not.

Airon: (Also pleased, but still slightly concerned, he walked up to them and placed his hand on Taigen’s shoulder.) You weren’t hurt in any way, were you?

Nakama: (Amused by Airon’s ever-present concern for his friends, she giggled softly from behind him.) I think we’d be able to tell if he was, right, Airon?

Airon: (Seemingly made a fool of once again, he rubbed his eyes and chuckled softly in amusement.) Hmhmhmhm, …just making sure.

As everyone settled back down and B prepared to announce the next match, Airon returned to Manako’s side, the latter also rather impressed by the previous match.

Manako: (He is quite quick on his feet, isn’t he?)

Airon: (He nodded in agreement.) (Yes, he is. …His opponents will only get faster and more cunning, though, …which is what I’m fearing most right now.)

B: Alright, now let’s get on with the next match!

The large monitor lit up once again, and the two rows of random letters began flashing for the fifth time today. Everyone’s eyes were glued to the monitor, both contestants and spectators alike, all eager to see who the next match-up would be. Fifteen seconds passed before their pleas were answered.

B: And the match-up iiissss…Inoka Yamanaka and Ide Fujita! So, come on down, ladies!

Taigen moves on to the finals – does the headstrong Inoka have what it takes to take the peace-loving Ide out of the competition!!?

The End

Taigen’s tactic was a pretty good one. Akame’s observation over the fight was amusing as she basically pointed out what really was going on but it was viewed by others as pessimistic but she could’ve rather been making a realist comment. So Taigen definitely possesses some fantastic skills. I liked Manako’s comment to Airon as I could never get sick of their Sasuke and Naruto-like rivalry =D It appears that Taigen’s strategy is working but I’d definitely like to see what this Iwa-nin can do! Well, its a little ironic how both combatants displayed a jutsu you’d think the other would use instead mainly due to their respective village lol Wow, I didn’t expect the match to end so abruptly and it just appeared as though Taigen had control over the fight since early on. Asuka is plain cold. I like the next matchup and I look forward to it! Yet another superb chapter ;)

Yes it was, but she also had less knowledge of the combatants, which is why they basically looked down upon her generic observation. Yes, he's a pretty interesting character, and he'll be shocking quite a few readers later on, I guarantee it;) lol

I dunno, I think they're on much better terms than what Naruto and Sasuke were:) lol Eh, the only thing I did that really made Takeshi stand out were the spiked knuckles he was using, but he's just a standard genin aside from that. And that's Asuka all over, pretty much:) lol

Yeah, I already got some nice feedback for what I did with Ide, so hopefully, you like her, too:) And thanks, man*_*

I see and I definitely look forward to what’s to come!

I suppose you’re correct as Naruto and Sasuke’s relationship was indeed rocky for the most part lol

You’re welcome :)
