Not one of the matches I enjoyed writing the most, so hopefully, it came out all right*_* lol Enjoy
Here’s my previous chapters, for those who missed any:
Chapter 027: Perseverance is Hereditary
While the shock of all three of Sasuke’s grandchildren competing back-to-back began to wear off most of the shinobi in the arena, the two competitors were preparing for their upcoming match. As per usual, Katsuto was doing everything he could to look superior to those around him – and drastically failing – turning to his cousin before taking his leave.
Katsuto: Hmph, just watch, Manako. You said I wouldn’t be able to beat Chan? I’ll have him on the ground in seconds flat, wait and see.
Manako: (He smirked in light of Katsuto’s retort, seeing this as the perfect chance to teach him a lesson about his own abilities.) Whatever you say.
As Katsuto leapt over the railing to the floor below – hurting his feet in the process, though he did his best to hide it – on the opposite end of the balcony, Chan was receiving some last-minute motivation from Lee.
Lee: All right! This is it, Chan! Your moment of glory! Are you ready for this!?
Chan: Yes!
Lee: Do not let his Sharingan or the fact that he is a Uchiha discourage you! Just remember all your training and your hard work will pay off, got it!?
Chan: Right!!
Lee: All right! Just one last thing, then!
Chan: What is it, Sensei!?
Lee dropped to one knee before speaking, adopting a much softer tone to let Chan know that these next words came from his grandfather, not his sensei.
Lee: You are my grandson…and the power of youth burns within you, too. You have the ability to do anything if you put enough effort into it, got it?
Chan: (He nodded frantically and saluted Lee to ensure him that he understood, tears beginning to well up in his eyes.) Yes…yes sir!
Lee: All right, then! Rock and roll, Chan!!
Chan: RIIIGHT!!!
Taking off without saying goodbye to Hitomi or Miyuki, Chan leapt over the railing and landed gently on the ground floor before walking up to his opponent, whose Sharingan was already activated.
Katsuto: Hnh, you might as well pack it up, Chan. …Ain’t nothin’ getting past THESE eyes.
Chan: (He responded with a confident smile as he assumed the battle stance taught to him by his grandfather.) Hm, we shall see.
B: All right. If both y’all are ready, …begin!
Chan was the first to make a move, charging forward at blinding speed. Planning to use this opportunity to show him off, Katsuto remained put, intent on using his Sharingan to dodge his attack at the last minute.
Chan: Leaf Hurricane!
Without warning, Chan leapt into the air and brought his leg forward, at which point Katsuto ducked to successfully avoid the incoming kick. Chan dropped to his knee as Katsuto returned to his feet, both turning around and locking eyes as the latter gave a confident smirk.
Katsuto: Hnh, you’re gonna have to be faster than that.
Chan: (Seeing how unaware he was, he gave a confidence smile of his own.) I think I am fast enough.
Confused, Katsuto looked down, at which point his eyes widened as he caught sight of several strands of light-red hair.
Katsuto: What the-!? (He grazed me. …How the heck did he manage that!?)
Manako: (Noticing this from the balcony, he shook his head in response to his cousin’s self-centeredness.) (Seems you’re not as fast as you thought, huh, Katsuto?)
Katsuto: Rrrgh, alright then! Why don’t I return the favor!? You could use a haircut, anyways!!
Running forward to deliver a short series of kicks and punches – all of which Chan easily dodged – he reached into the pouch on his waist for a handful of shuriken just as his frustration began to rise.
Katsuto: Take THIS!!
Without hesitation, he threw them all at his opponent with excellent precision, only for Chan to leap into the air to evade them. Planning on this, Katsuto quickly executed a short series of hand signs.
Katsuto: You’re mine now! Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!
Sending an enormous ball of flames pouring from his mouth, Katsuto looked in triumphant amusement as it flew towards Chan. To his surprise, however, Chan was unfazed by the incoming attack, and proceeded to form a hand sign. From this, he conjured an exact doppelganger, which he proceeded to jump off the back of to increase his altitude a second time, thus avoiding the flames. Landing a few meters from Katsuto, Chan quickly went on the offensive while his opponent, fearing he might not be able to dodge his assault, raised his arms over his face to absorb the majority of his kicks, the collective force of which sent him crashing into the wall.
Miyuki: Yeah! You got him, Chan!
Lee: You can do it, Chan!
Giving a thumbs-up to the rest of his team, Chan turned back to face Katsuto, who was quivering in anger as he mumbled under his breath.
Katsuto: There is no way…I’m losing. Not to you…or ANYONE!!
He stood up once again and opened his eyes to reveal his Sharingan, only this time, they bore three tomoe instead of the usual two. Noticing this drastic change, as well, Chan’s eyes widened with shock, as did those of his cousin and sister overhead.
Akame: No way.
Manako: (Dang it. …He just might end up winning, after all.)
Feeling this new increase in power surging through him, Katsuto looked up at Chan with a devilish smile before charging, each punch or kick he threw coming closer to connecting than the last.
Chan: (Dang! He is faster than before! …At this rate, I might have to use the-)
At long last, Katsuto managed to land a hit – right smack in the center of Chan’s chest – and followed it with four more in rapid succession, the last of which sent him crashing into the wall, a fair amount of blood pouring from his mouth as he made impact. Nearly everyone in attendance looked on in worry, the only ones showing some sense of satisfaction being Akame, Sasuke, and Asuka – the latter of whom simply enjoyed the sight of blood on the battlefield. Pleased with his progress in this match, Katsuto straightened his posture and looked down at Chan with a menacing smirk.
Katsuto: Hnh, this match is as good as over.
Chan paid no heed to his words, though, instead looking up at the balcony on the other side of the arena – at his grandfather, who smiled and nodded gently in approval of something. Chan quickly returned the gesture, and looked up at Katsuto as he began uncoiling the bandages around his arms. Recognizing these actions from several years ago, Naruto walked over to Lee.
Naruto: It’s been a pretty long time since I’ve seen that.
Lee: (Thinking back to his own match in his first Chūnin Exams, he recalled the conditions his late sensei set for using the Lotus as a smile surfaced on his face.) …I think that an exception can be made here today.
Upon finishing with his bandages, Chan slowly returned to his feet and locked eyes with Katsuto, who appeared rather surprised by his ability to stand. Moments later, chakra began seeping from Chan’s body, at which point he took off, topping any speeds he might have reached before then.
Katsuto: Whoa! (He just got a huge power boost! …Where the heck did this speed come from?)
Once again, Katsuto was left incapable of dodging Chan’s attacks, each connecting one after the other and eventually forcing him to call upon a smoke bomb in order to escape the onslaught. Reemerging several meters away from the resulting cloud, Katsuto wiped away the blood on his bottom lip before forming several hand signs.
Katsuto: I’m gonna end you! Fire Style: Dragon Flame Bomb!
Curling his lips and exhaling, he let loose an enormous stream of fire – arranged to form the shape of a dragon – which immediately engulfed the smoldering haze. Seconds later, it dispersed, leaving absolutely nothing in its wake. Pleased, Katsuto gradually formed a smile in between heavy breaths, only to look up in shock moments later to find Chan rapidly descending from high up in the air.
Katsuto: What!? (It can’t be. …That was my strongest attack.)
Almost completely drained, Katsuto held his arms up to guard his face, only for Chan bring his knee down on top of his chest, causing a sea of blood to spew from his mouth as he crashed into the ground, forming a small crater. Immediately following the impact, Chan fell to his knees, exhausted after using the Primary Lotus, while Katsuto – unable to move – remained frozen in the center of the crater, a look of shock plastered on his face.
B: The winner is Chan!
Lee: (Leaping down from the balcony immediately following the announcement, he ran over to his grandson as tears began pouring from his eyes.) YEEEAAAHHHH!!! You did it, Chan!!
Chan: (Tears now running down his own face, he tried desperately to return to his feet as he held up one fist to commemorate his victory.) I DID IT!!!
The two entered a tearful embrace in which Lee squeezed Chan and began swinging him around, much to the protest of both the latter’s mouth and his exhausted body. As Lee frantically apologized for this, Manako and Akame leapt down to the ground floor themselves and walked over to Katsuto, kneeling down beside him – Manako wearing a smile and Akame wearing a frown.
Manako: You know, Katsuto, most of our peers here in this village tend to trust my instinct because they know I’m rarely wrong.
Katsuto: Bite me, will ya?
Akame: (Heaving a sigh of disappointment, she quickly dropped the entire thing and gave him a few words of encouragement.) Just forget about it. You have your third tomoe now. You’ll have a better shot next time.
Shocked to hear Akame of all people accept someone to be stronger than him, he laid there –eyes gaping – as two medical-nin placed him on a stretcher and carried him away. Meanwhile, with his sensei’s help, Chan returned to the balcony, receiving a few words of commemoration from others as he passed by, including Airon.
Airon: Way to show him.
Smiling and returning his kinds words with a thumbs-up, Chan limped on back to his teammates as Manako and Akame leapt back over the railing, the former with less effort than the latter.
Airon: (He all right?)
Manako: (A bit shaken up.)
Airon: (Hmhmhmhm, I can imagine.)
B: All right, let’s check out the monitor and see the next match-up, y’all!
As everyone settled back into place, the monitor began flashing once again, stopping after roughly ten seconds.
B: The next match-up is between Taigen and Takeshi Narita. So, make your way down here and let’s get this show on the road!
Taking a deep breath in order to calm himself down, he made his way over to the end of the balcony and down the steps, though not before being stopped by Airon.
Airon: Wait.
He placed his hand on the young boy’s shoulder, leaving it there for a few seconds before removing it again. Realizing what he just did, Taigen looked up at him with a smile.
Taigen: Thanks, Airon. …I felt like I was running on empty.
Airon: (He returned the gesture and placed his hand on Taigen’s shoulder again, only this time in an effort to calm him down before the match.) Don’t worry about it. …You got this, Taigen.
Minto: (Walking over to them with a bright smile on his face, he patted his teammate on the back as a means to wish him luck.) Watch yourself down there, bud.
Taigen: …I will.
Nakama and Suzaku also walked over and gave Taigen their best wishes before he took his leave, afterwhich the latter returned to Naruto’s side and the former walked over to the railing beside Airon, who was sequentially standing next to Manako.
Nakama: Do you think he’ll be all right?
Airon: (He responded with a gentle smile.) I don’t know what skills that Rock village genin has in store for him, …but yes. I have complete faith in him.
She smiled in light of his answer, certain that if he believed Taigen would win, then he undoubtedly would. On the opposite balcony, his opponent Takeshi was also saying farewell to his teammates before taking his leave.
Takeshi: Wish me luck!
Amiko: We will.
Amiko looked back at Asuka to see if he would give him the same luxury, only to find him not paying the slightest bit of attention to the two of them. Seeing the disappointment in her eyes, Takeshi gently smiled and placed his hand on her shoulder, much to her surprise, telling her not to worry about it before making his way down the steps. Stopping just a few meters in front of Taigen, who still appeared rather nervous, Takeshi reached into his pouch and pulled out two sets of spiked knuckles, placing them on each of his hands before returning his arms to his sides, a smirk gradually forming on his face.
Takeshi: Bring it on, kid.
B: (Checking to see if both of them were prepared, he lifted his arm into the air to start the match.) Alright, if both y’all are ready, …begin!
Chan puts Katsuto in his proper place – now it’s time for Taigen to show his true potential!!!
