I guess I misjudged how long this chapter would be, so I only introduced one of the new teams of genin. Rest assured, though, I’ll be sure to get the rest of the Leaf genin introduced next chapter
Enjoy

Chapter 004: Ino-Shika-Chō
Having spotted the group from afar, another team of genin walked over to greet them. The apparent leader of the team was sporting untidy, black hair that draped over his baggy, brown eyes and wearing a long-sleeved, grey shirt, which he kept open to reveal the mesh armour beneath it. Wearing brown cargo shorts rather than traditional pants, he kept his forehead protector wrapped around his left arm, …a trait shared with his grandfather, the village’s Jōnin Commander. Behind him stood his two teammates, the first of whom was a young girl with shoulder-length, blond hair that she typically lets down and dressed in a sleeveless, purple top, long fishnet warmers over her arms, and black shorts with fishnet beneath them, as well as a long, purple apron-skirt. The other was a slightly overweight boy of the same age with long, red hair that he keeps tied back in a ponytail and dressed in the standard attire of his clan, …the Akimichi clan. As a whole, they were the current generation of the Ino-Shika-Chō formation, …Shikaru Nara, Inoka Yamanaka, and Chōzen Akimichi.
Airon: (Pleased to see the first set of familiar faces amongst their competition, he stepped forward and held out his hand to greet them.) Pleasure seeing you here, Shikaru. …The competition is rather packed this year, it seems.
Shikaru: (A smirk emerged on his face as he reached out and took Airon’s hand in his own.) Yeah, it sure is. Heh, shouldn’t be much of a problem for any of you, though, should it?
Kei: (Walking past the leaders of their two groups, he directed his attention to the other male member of Shikaru’s team.) Hehe, you got that right! Hey, Chōzen! How’s it going?
Chōzen: (In an effort to show his own enthusiasm, he extended his arms out and assumed a tough-guy pose.) Man, I am prepped for today, Kei!
Kei: Yeah, I hear you, buddy! I tell you, today’s the day I wipe the floor with some of the hotheads in this village…hehe, and maybe even some from other villages!
Minto: Hmm, rather bold statement on your part, Kei.
Nakama: Hmhmhm. Actually, Kei, the one-on-one matches are supposed to take place a month from now. Today, we take the written exam.
Airon: (Hmhm, which I’ll be sure to help you with, little brother.)
Kei: (Whipping around to face his triplet brother, he adopted an irritated, though obviously sarcastic, expression.) Ah, save it, Airon!
Looking around at the others, whose faces all bore questioning expressions, he suddenly realized that this wasn’t said out loud, turning back to Airon with another irritated expression, only this time, with no sarcasm to speak of.
Kei: (Dang it, Airon! Quit doing that!)
Airon: (Hmhmhm, I have no idea what you mean.)
Realizing that an argument was pointless, especially against Airon, Kei simply turned away, gritting his teeth together as he did. Hoping to break the ice, Minto turned back to Nakama to address what she had brought up just a moment ago.
Minto: Well, I’d say that the written exam shouldn’t be much of a problem for any of us. …From what your grandfather told us, Airon, the Forest of Death is a whole other story.
Chōzen: Heh, not for us, it won’t be! This whole thing should be a cinch!
Shikaru: (Heedful as always, he looked back at his friend and teammate with the intent to pacify his apparent overconfidence.) Hey, don’t get too cocky, Chōzen. That’ll get you taken out in the first round.
Chōzen: (He turned to his friend with a self-assured expression on his face.) Hehehe, not while I’m on your team, Shikaru.
Shikaru: (Not one to turn down praise, he tilted his head down and allowed a smirk to form on his face.) Heh, well, I won’t disagree with that.
Inoka: (Irritated by her teammates as always, she shut her eyes and raised her hands up to smack them both from behind, producing two large bumps on the back of their heads.) I will! Ugghh, you’re BOTH liable to get eliminated early!
Chōzen: Owowowoowww!! What the heck, Inoka!?
Shikaru: (He rubbed his head to relieve the pain, though looking at him as he did, it was difficult for one to tell whether it was out of soreness or confusion.) Hmmm, mad at us for nothing, …as per usual.
Inoka: Rrrrgghh, I oughta!!
Inase: (Amused by their antics, as she often was, she walked past them and over to her long-time friend, giggling to herself as she did.) (Hostile as always, Inoka?)
Inoka: (Hmph, it’s hard not to be around these two dolts. You’d think they would attack the Ten-Tails head-on, being so overconfident all the time.)
Inase: (Well, I wouldn’t say that, but they do have reason to feel sure of themselves, especially Shikaru, …since his grandfather is the Jōnin Commander and all.)
Inoka: (…Well yeah, but that doesn’t necessarily make him all-powerful, either. They act like we’re the strongest team here and we obviously aren’t.)
Having been listening in on their…private conversation, Airon walked over to them and casually placed his arm around his sister, catching the attention of both of them in the process.
Airon: (That’s not true, Inoka. If anything, I would say that they act like you’re ONE of the most powerful teams here, …which sounds pretty valid to me.) …Hmhm, so how are you holding up, Inoka?
Inoka: (Though still judgmental of her teammates, …she was far too lost in Airon’s eyes and simply dropped the issue.) Yeah, …I guess you’re right. ...I’m doing fine, thank you.
Airon: You sure? You seem rather…nervous to me.
Inoka: (Realizing that she was still ogling over Airon, she quickly regained control of herself and attempted to answer his question, …though she certainly managed to trip over herself in the process.) Well, uh, I-I ought to be. I mean, look at who’s competing this year. You and Manako, obviously, …then there’s Hitomi, …Irezumi, …Raiden…
????: Hehehaha, somebody call ME!?
In walks Raiden Sarutobi, …Minto’s younger brother!!!
