Chapter 7: Journey to Konoha
Mission To Konoha Arc
Over the week long vacation for team Kankuro, the three genin spend their time finalizing their techniques as the day of reckoning comes. On the day of the team's next test, Koichi, Koji, and Ryoko arrive at their usual spot in waiting for Kankuro. As Kankuro comes arrives, the three genin stare with determined and serious looks, prepared for anything thrown at them.
“Hey guys, um, change of plans, we're going on our mission now instead of doing the exercise.”
“What?!” Koichi says upset.
“Yeah, Gaara trusted me with this mission so we have to handle this first.”
“Oh well, so what's our first mission huh? Are we going to spy on some enemy shinobi, or better yet have a full out battle?!” Koichi asks eagerly. Koichi grins with his fantasies of taking out dozens of shinobi all at once. Koji rolls his eyes at his brother and shook his head. “Come on don't keep us in suspense!”
“Koichi, you do know, as genin we're only sent on D-ranked missions right? D-ranked, meaning community chores, babysitting and stuff like that.” Koji says.
“No way!”
“Yes way, we're only genin you idiot, our missions are going to be light until we reach chuunin and jounin level.” Ryoko says.
“Ahh! Now I'd rather do the damn training, this sucks.”
“Actually,” Kankuro begins scratching his head, “this mission is B-ranked.” Koji and Ryoko look with shock at Kankuro while Koichi regains his smile.
“Hell yeah!”
“Yeah, we'll be delivering a message to Konoha.” Kankuro says. At that moment Koichi's excitement leaves him again.
“That's boring! How the hell is delivering a message considered a B-ranked mission?” Koichi says.
“When it holds importance to both our nation and that of the other Great Nations!” Kankuro scolds. All three genin stand firm after the tone of their sensei.
**Flashback**
“I sent a message to Konoha concerning my arrival, however the information we've gathered as of now is too important to let it sit until my arrival. I want you to head over there and explain to them what we've learned so far.” Gaara says to Kankuro. “I'm going to classify this as B-ranked but this is top secret, I only trust this information with the Hokage and the rest of the 11, understand?”
“Yes.”
“As soon as we receive conformation from Konoha, you are to depart.”
**End Flashback**
“This is my mission and I've only agreed to bring you along because I felt bad about canceling your training for so long. We don't have any time to waste so I suggest you guys shape up because we're leaving now.” Kankuro says with urgency in his voice. He turns around and leaps away and the three shinobi look at each other and hesitantly follow their sensei. “*Why do I have this ominous feeling like everything is about to crumble down worse then before?*” Kankuro thinks to himself.
The four shinobi run through the desert, heading further and further away from the confines of Sunagakure, towards Konohagakure. As the team heads through the desert, they pass by a glistening white snake skin, flapping in the wind, on a cactus. None of them notice it, however, a chill races up Kankuro's spine, causing him to stop in his tracks.
“What's wrong sensei?” Koichi asks. Kankuro turns his head slightly to his students and then he begins to look around the area.
“Nothing...I'm just being a little paranoid is all, lets go.” With that, the four shinobi continue on with their mission.
~Several Hours Pass~
The four shinobi finally make their way into the Land of Fire and into Konoha. As they enter the gates, the large bustling village is filled with life, people laughing and enjoying themselves, and the sun radiates over the village brightly and warm.“It feels so different here, it's not as hot as in Suna.” Ryoko says.
“Alright, ground rules. You guys are guests in this village, stay in the main district and don't go into any clan districts or official looking buildings. Don't embarrass me. I'm going to see the Hokage and deliver this message and then we're leaving, I should be a couple hours so just don't get into any trouble, anybody asks about why you're hear just show them your stamp and you'll be alright.” Kankuro says.
“Wait, you mean we're not coming with you?” Koichi asks.
“No, this message is top secret, only for the ears of the Hokage and his most trusted. Remember, you're just tagging along for this, easiest mission of your career if you don't screw it up.”
“But--”
“See ya!” Kankuro says, as he disappears. Koichi pouts as he starts grabbing his hair.
“Damn it!” He yells, getting the attention of several people. Koji punches Koichi in the back of the head.
“You have the biggest mouth, I can't imagine somebody who's more obnoxious then you.” Koji says.
As Koichi rubs the back of his head, he notices Ryoko heading off into the village. “Where are you going?” He asks.
“I saw a cake shop, I'm going to get something to eat, I heard Konoha has some of the greatest food.” Ryoko says.
“I heard they had some pretty badass ramen, I'm going to go check that out.” Koichi says rubbing his stomach.
“We'll catch up with you later Ryoko.” Koji says.
“Please keep him under control.” Ryoko sighs looking at Koichi's ridiculous face as he day dreams about ramen.
The three genin depart and Koji and Koichi head towards a small little shop titled “Ichiraku Ramen”
While the genin have their look around the village, Kankuro stands in front of the Hokage mansion, speaking with the two guards in the front. “What do you mean he's gone?” Kankuro says annoyed.
“Well, he disappeared about an hour ago, we sent some guys out looking for him but we can't find him.” One of the shinobi says.
“Well where are the others, shouldn't they have been able to find him?” Kankuro asks.
“Well everybody is on some other important mission. Sakura and Ino-sama are both busy at the hospital tending to work and Hinata-sama, Kiba and Shino-sama are on boarder patrol right now and everybody else is either out of the village on a mission or dealing with...well--”
“He's the Hokage, how are we supposed to find him if he doesn't want to be found?” The other shinobi cuts off his colleague.
“Damn it, were can this guy be?” Kankuro sighs.
“I hope this ramen is all it's cracked up to be.” Koichi says as he enters the small restaurant.
“Hmm, new customers huh?” Teuchi says, walking over to the counter with his cane. “I can tell just by looking at you that you're not from around here are you, what can I get for ya?”
“I heard this was the best place to get ramen, fix us up with your finest!” Koichi says extaticly.
“hehe, comin right up.” The old man says. At that moment the door of the shop whips open and a blond haired man runs in and closes the door behind him quickly and frantically. Outside the rushing footsteps of several people could be heard. The man sighs in relief and he sits down. “Well, well, Naruto my boy, haven't seen you in a while.”
“Sorry gramps, work has been a killer, I never get to have any fun.” Naruto turns to the two boys and notices their headbands. “Hey, you guys are from Suna, what are you doing in Konoha?” Naruto demands.
“What's it to ya?” Koichi says.
“What's it too me?! Why you little--”
“Here you go Naruto, the usual, on the house.” Teuchi interrupts, placing a large bowel of ramen in front of Naruto. Naruto's face lights up and he begins to devour large bowel forgetting all about the two boys.
“Hey, how come he gets his first?” Koichi complains. Naruto sticks his tong out at Koichi and Koichi gets angry. “What are you so happy about you stupid fishcake. What type of parent names their kid--” Before he could finish his sentence Koichi goes flying through the doors of the shop and into one of the buildings on the other side.
“You have something to say about my parents you little punk!” Naruto yells as he runs towards Koichi. Koji appears between Naruto and Koichi using Shunshin. “I don't care I'll go through you two.” Koji twitches his fingers on his hands and two puppets with blades appear on both sides of Naruto and restrain him. “Damn it!”
“Damn it Koichi you see what I'm forced to do because of you.” Suddenly Koichi appears behind Naruto with a kunai. “You idiot, that wasn't a signal for you to...wait a minute he's...Koichi stop!!” Koji yells frantically. Naruto turns his head slightly and he grins as he begins to lift up his right hand.
All of a sudden, Koichi is yanked back onto his back and tired up with several chakra strings. “You idiots, what did I say!” Kankuro says hovering over Koichi.
“Kankuro-san?” Naruto says confused.
“Hey, what's the big idea sensei!” Koichi yells just before he's punched in the face by Kankuro and then again by Koji.
“You idiot, that's the Hokage.” Kankuro scolds.
“What, no way!” Koichi says in disbelief. “That can't be, I was just about to take him apart!” He says.
“You wish buddy!” Naruto says. “Hey Kankuro are they yours?”
“Unfortunately...sorry about that Naruto-kun. I have something I need to talk to you about, it's important. I assume you got the message from Gaara.”
“Yeah I did, so what the--”
“NARUTO!” A voice yells from behind, Naruto scares straight up and his face expresses terror as he looks behind him and is suddenly grabbed and put into a headlock by Sakura. “What the hell is the matter with you?! I'm in the middle of an autopsy and I'm interrupted to find out that you've escaped from your work!”
Naruto gasps for breath and tries to break free from Sakura's grip. “Sa...kura I can't...” Naruto chokes.
“You're dead body will be the next one to be examined after I'm done with you, now come on!” Sakura drags Naruto along by his neck, walking past Kankuro and the others, heading back to the Hokage mansion. Kankuro sighs, kicks Koichi once more while he's on the ground and follows Naruto and Sakura. Koichi gets up and Koji walks over to him, after paying Teuchi for the door. They both watch the Hokage being dragged by his neck back to his residence.
“Hmph, he doesn't looks so great, what type of Hokage gets dragged off like that, right Koji....right?” Koichi laughs. Koji looks at Naruto and his brother and he sighs.
“I'm seeing double.” Koji says shaking his head, as he begins to follow Kankuro and the others.
Author's Note:
This chapter is kind of whacky, it's mainly dealing with the beginning introductions of the important characters of Konoha (this chapter Naruto and Sakura and a few mentions of the others, but you'll see the others later). Sorry there's no scroll of jutsu this issue. Anyway I know this runs a little long, and some of you may think that it dosen't need to be this way but this is how I had to do it to set up chapter 8, is completly relivent for about 98% of the chapter and you may find it is very delightful :zonder: Not only will you will you get a little excited about the action to come but I put a little treat that may shock a few of you but regardless, I find it to be a nice treat for you all
