Chapter 5: Next Generation of Sunagakure
Genin Training Arc
Ryoko begins to come too and she notices herself in a cave. She fully regains her consciousness and gazes over to see Koichi and Koji. Koji's shoulder and arm is bandaged up, while Koichi's is put up in a sling.
“We've already used up almost 4 hours of our time to find him, in the condition we're in, we'll be lucky if we even stay alive long enough to find him.” Koichi says.
“Kankuro sensei's intentions aren't to kill us. Puppeteers are masters of poison configuration, that strike to my shoulder should have killed me already, instead it just numbed it, and Ryoko should be dead with all the gas she inhaled.”
“Hey!” Ryoko shouts, getting the attention of Koichi and Koji. “Where are we?”
“You're awake now.” Koichi says with a subtle hint of agitation.
“We had to retreat for now, we've all been banged up pretty bad.” Koji says.
“We're wasting time sitting around here, we need to figure out something.” Ryoko says in a rushed tone. She tries to stand but she staggers as her mind begins to twirl and she begins to feel a stabbing pain in her chest every time she breaths.
“Calm down will ya.” Koichi say, pushing her down on her butt. “You especially are in no condition to do much of anything right now.” Ryoko clinches her fist in frustration, turning her head away from the two brothers.
“We have to analyze the situation first.” Koji says plainly. “Kankuro sensei is doing just enough to subdue us and nothing more. The fact that he was able to attack Koichi and myself and still go after Ryoko means he has some special technique that allows him to fight long ranged.”
“Yeah, but for some reason that Crow puppet of his was acting funny just before it retreated.”
“That must mean there's an interval of time for how long the jutsu lasts.” Ryoko says. “Even so, it doesn't seem like it's an interval we can exploit right now.”
“That all depends. We've only been out of sight for about 20 minutes, I suspect a jutsu like his must take an adequate amount of time to re-charge for use so if we figure out something quick we could probably get to him before he's able to use it again.”
“Yeah, we know he has to be close enough to uses his standard jutsu or whatever, so we just need to find a way to bring out one of those puppets and then find him from there.”
“Bait.” Ryoko says. “But the thing is, who are we going to use and how are we going to do it?”
The three shinobi are silent, all of them apprehensive to volunteer themselves for bait against such a powerful shinobi. “I'll do it.” Koichi says. “Out of the three of us I'm the least injured, all I have is a broken arm, Ryoko can barley stand and Koji, you're arm is numb with poison and is still bleeding. I'd probably last the longest.”
“I'm fine!” Ryoko insists angrily. She tires to stand again, balancing herself against the wall of the cave. “I can still--”
“Koichi we just need you to lure out his puppets and hold them off for as long as you can. Ryoko and I will find higher ground to observe, hopefully we can scout out the area to find out where Kankuro sensei is.” Koji instructs as he cuts off Ryoko. Koichi nods and he takes his arm out of the sling, clinching his teeth in pain from moving the arm.
“Wait a minute--”
“You should give me all the tools you have so I can have something to work with.” Koichi says. The two brother's ignore Ryoko's words and proceed on with the plan they've organized. Irritated, Ryoko complies with the others and she gives all the tools she has to Koichi.
“It's been a while, they do know that they're still under the clock.” Kankuro says in a hidden location within the desert. He sits down, tinkering with Crow and his other puppets. “They still have about 5 hours left, I can play them out for a little while longer until I tire out, hopefully I can waste em, before they drag out the time.” At that moment he begins to hear foot steps running in the sand and he sees Koichi, Koji, and Ryoko running in the distance. “They're back...and they look re-charged.” At that moment Ryoko and Koji break away from Koichi in one direction, while Koichi continues on his own. “Still playing the splitting up game I see...I think I have enough chakra for a few more minutes with this jutsu.” Kankuro makes four seals and places his hand on the back of Crow. “Ninpo: Ukio Enko”

As Kankuro's chakra enters Crow, he begins to pant slightly. “That's enough for now, I shouldn't even be going out like this for these little punks.” Kankuro says. Crow stands up and begins moving his limbs and head. He then heads out towards the direction Koji and Ryoko went in, while Kankuro connects chakra strings to one of his puppets and sends it towards Koichi. As the puppet gets closer to Koichi, Kankuro has it release several needles from one of the many chambers in it's body. Koichi leaps up away from the needles, as the puppet comes into his sight. He smiles, holding out his one good arm in a defensive stance. “What do you have to smile about?” Kankuro projects his voice through his puppet.
“Don't worry about it!” Koichi shouts as he runs towards Kankuro's puppet. Despite his handy cap, Koichi manages to keep up with the puppet, attacking and countering at a fair level.
~Atop a Mountain~
On the top of a mountain close Koichi, Ryoko and Koji kneel, watching their teammate fight the puppet by himself. Ryoko turns to Koji curiously. “Why were you so quick to send you're brother to such a dangerous situation?” She asked.
“Koichi can more then take care of himself. I don't have any doubts in his abilities.”
“Even so, do you honestly believe him to be strong enough to stand off against this opponent alone?”
“I know he's not strong enough, which is why he's not alone. We're twins, we have this connection, we know exactly how much the other can take, which is why I know exactly where to intervene should anything in the plan backfire, but until then, we should let him do his job and we do ours.” Koji's words are spoken with great confidence for his brother as he watches him face off against the puppet.
Crow begins to sneak up behind Ryoko and Koji on the mountain top. “There you are.” Kankuro says to himself behind his hidden location, having his vision linked with Crow's. Suddenly, Crow leaps out behind the two shinobi, however they don't turn around, unknown to the situation. He lands a blade into each of their backs but the moment he does, both Koji and Ryoko disappear in a cloud of smoke. “What?!” The two shinobi are revealed to be nothing more then ordinary clones. On the edge of the mountain where both clones were placed, paper bomb tags are seen and they begin to ignite. “Oh Shi--” The mountain explodes and causes an avalanche.
“If Kankuro sensei was controlling Crow, then he would've had to escape into the open from the explosion, that must mean he's controlling the puppet Koichi's fighting.” Koji says to Ryoko as the two stand in a medium point between the mountain and Koichi.
“Then we better hurry and find him.”
From the avalanche, body parts of Crow begin to emerge and form back together. “If I hadn't disassembled Crow, more of him would've been destroyed. Those punks planned this to narrow down where I was...not bad, but it won't work.” Kankuro makes two seals, which is imitated by the puppet fighting Koichi. The puppet suddenly releases thick ropes from a compartment on its arm and it shoots towards Koichi. Koichi uses Shunshin to evade the jutsu, however, as soon as he does, another puppet emerges from the position he ends up in and traps him in an iron maiden like trap, from the neck down. The puppet who shot the ropes heads straight towards Koichi with a blade. “With one of you're teammates in danger, what will you do, save him or complete the mission?”
“They don't have to choose!” Koichi shouts. Koichi channels every ounce of chakra he has into his good arm and shatters through the puppet holding him, however the blade of the other puppet goes right through his arm and all the way through to his shoulder and Koichi drops. Koichi sweeps the legs of the puppet and kicks it away from him, releasing the sword from his arm and shoulder. Koichi pants heavily as he regains his balance, with his arm bleeding intensely. The puppet heads towards Koichi, slashing the blade at him and Koichi has no other options but to evade the onslaught of slashes. Out of exhaustion, Koichi looses his flow and the puppet slashes across his chest, however, only drawing a small amount of blood but the attack is enough to drive Koichi off his feet. “*Damn it...I'm done*” Koichi thinks to himself.
As Ryoko and Koji head in search of Kankuro, Koji stops as he hears the thoughts of his brother. “I got it, go after Koichi!” Ryoko says to Koji as she notices his hesitation.
The puppet heads towards Koichi, readying the finisher, however, Koji intervenes, blocking the blade with a kunai. Koji pushes the puppet and defends his brother. Koji takes out four kunai and throws them at the puppet but all of them are deflected. The puppet heads towards them and Koji makes the tiger seal, releasing gas from a small paper ball attached to one of the kunai.
“Koji, you idiot what are you doing?”
“I'm not sacrificing you, you're all I have left. If we go out, we go out together.”
The puppet emerges from above the smoke and releases a shower of needles. As they shower down on the two brothers, Koji attempts to deflect as many as he can. He knocks away few as he's impaled by many at the same time. He kneels as a needle it's him in a pressure point in his leg. Koji pants, exhausted just as his brother, while the puppet begins to land with its sword above it's head, ready to strike. Koji's vision begins to blur, but a brief moment after, a shadow blocks his path and he notices Koichi standing above him.
“No am I letting my little brother save me.” Koichi says with a grin on his face, with his body in the way of the attack.
“I won't kill them, I'll just knock em out...Hm?” As the puppet comes down the blade stops an inch over Koichi's head. The attack has stopped and Koichi hasn't been cut down. “Ya got me.” Kankuro smiles. In the back of him, Ryoko hold a kunai to Kankuro's back and she pants as well. “Kinda close don't ya think.” Kankuro releases the chakra strings and the puppet falls in it's place and Koichi and Koji both smile as the realize the success of their mission, and Koichi drops down in the sand.
“Hell Yeah!” He yells excitingly.
“Well done you guys, four hours to spare. To tell you the truth I wasn't expecting you guys to make it but oh well.” Kankuro and Ryoko walk over to where Koichi and Koji lay and by the time they both get there, Koichi and Koji are unconscious. Kankuro summons back Crow and seals him away and picks up both Koichi and Koji and the four head back to the village. They enter the trench entrance to the village and Kankuro lays the two boys up against the rocks and slaps them awake.
“What was that for?” Koichi yells.
“I need to tell you something before we get back in the village. For starters, congratulations on a job well done. You managed to finish your assignment and there were no casualties. Granted I wasn't trying to kill you but I would've rendered you unconscious as an equality to death. However, next time things will be a lot different, and by that I mean harder, but that's besides the point. What I'm about to say to you is very important so I want you to pay especially close attention.” The three genin focus on their sensei with determined and serious looks on their faces. “You three are shinobi now, I exercise a certain level of restraint only because you're novices in the world of the shinobi, but as time goes on you'll begin to see and experience more things and some of those things you can't be taught how to deal with, you only experience them. However, the more sheltered you are the harder the experience will be. As we continue to train I will exercise less and less restraint as I expect you to enter the real world fast. I'm not your friend, I'm not your family, I'm your teacher and it's your job to learn from me so that you may act as the next generation of shinobi to defend this proud nation.”
Over in the training grounds of Suna, the genin team of Temari Nara, Pakura, and Jo Shirogane stand in attendance to their sensei, all three of them having passed their exam.
“You are but one cell of a powerful military force that's soul duty is to protect and defend this nation.” Kankuro says to his students.
At the academy barracks, the genin team of the team of Masaomi Iga, Koga, and Shizuko stand listening to the details of their first mission.
“One month from now we will have another mission simulation and then directly after we will go on our first mission. Until then, you are all to work on developing your skills and establishing your style of fighting. 5Am everyday until the simulation and our mission.” The three genin stand and nod respectfully to their sensei. “You are the next generation of Sunagakure.”

Description: Developed by Kankuro of Sunagakure, this technique grants temporary animation to an puppet/inanimate object via transfering a portion of one's own chakra into the puppet. Similar in a way to the Shadow Clone Jutsu, the puppet acts and moves of it's own will, however it's mind and vision are linked to the user and the puppet itself has no base intelligence beyond instinctual fighting. The jutsu lasts for a period of time pending on the amount of chakra transfered into puppet. Chakra used up in this technique takes longer to replenish and extracts large amounts on base activation alone and more so as the jutsu is continued to be used in one single day. As a result the more times activated in one day the more chakra consumed and the less time the puppet remains active.

Alright here is chapter 5, I hope you all like it. I've added a little addition to the chapters, which I believe may be a fun thing for people if they wish. I've added a scroll archive of the jutsu I've created for this Fanfiction, in this case right now, Kankuro's Ukio Enko. In here I tell the name, it's rank, creator and users, village of origin and the date of it's creation (either during the war, after the war but before the series, or during the series. If it's during the series I'll tell which chapter or between which chapters it was invented). I figured this could be fun, as the chapters go along more and more are added to the archives for you to enjoy. I'm going to make a poll asking the opinions of those of you who read it, if you would like me to continue doing this. Even if you don't like the idea just please vote so in the poll. Anyway, that's a minor note about this little thing. Hope you enjoy the chapter
