Too many people have been saying that the series has become too DBZ-like and they hate on characters like Madara. I am here to debunk that ridiculous notion.

1. The villains of Naruto, unlike in DBZ, actually have evil plans and motivations behind those plans. The infinite tsukuyomi for instance, is a plan to create peace (or at least what Madara considers to be peace). This was motivated by the horrible experiences that Madara had because of the shinobi world. Now compare this to a DBZ villain like Freeza, Cell or Buu. All they wanted to do was destroy planets. Did they have any reasons? No. Any actual plans? No. The difference between the two sets of villains is this: Madara has an actual plan where people can still be alive with himself still emerging victorious. As long as the genjutsu is cast, he wins. Buu just wanted to kill people. Nagato's bijuu weapon plan and even Orochimaru's desire for immortality had similar inspirations to Madara's. DBZ had no such motives. Therefore the two are very different in that aspect.

2. Plots: DBZ's plot was basically this: A powerful enemy is trying to destroy the universe. Kill him. Then the cycle continues.
Naruto's plot has parallels to real life. Take the confinement of the Uchiha for example. The Uchihas were confined to their little neighborhood because the elders suspected that the Uchiha may have been behind Obito and Kurama's attack on Konoha. Paranoia and accusations (w/ no proof) led to discrimination. Is this concept not similar to events such as the internment of Japanese Americans during World War 2? In fact, there had even just been an attack on Pearl Harbor (just as Obito had just attacked Konoha). Here is another example: Hashirama tried to make peace with the other nations by offering them bijuus. Greed for power however, led to war. Is this not similar to the concept of how increasing militarism and advancement in arms led to tension between America and the Soviet Union? This led to the cold war. The part about offering bijuus as peace treaties is analogous to the Salt treaties that allowed for certain limits to nuclear arms in the countries after the cold war. As you can see, the Naruto series has political and philosophical parralels to its plot. DBZ does not get that deep. Therefore the two series are completely different in that aspect.

3. Power: It almost ticks me off when I hear people say "the series has just become a bunch of explosions". Since when is wood style an explosion? Since when is onmyodon (besides the little balls that blow up) an explosion? Since when is susanoo an explosion? Since when is shinra tensei or rimbo hengoku an explosion? What about kamui? What about flying thunder God? You people act like we see a bijuudama every freaking manga! There are plenty of powerful techniques that are very effective (many of them even more effective than explosions) that are not explosions! DBZ seldomly used any attacks that weren't explosions. I can think of a few, but most were just pure energy. Naruto is not like that! The Naruto series' attacks focus on effects (ie putting people to sleep, disassembling molecules, negating ninjutsu, etc...) and not just brute force! The Naruto characters also use strategy with their attacks! As you can see, Naruto and DBZ are totally different in this aspect! If you say that you are not just referring to explosions and that you are referring to powerful people in general, let me ask you this: Since when did DBZ get a patent on power? Is every manga that has power automatically like DBZ now? Does every manga have to be a weakling manga now? You are just hating on power and success if you say this.

Conclusion: Naruto is not DBZ-like. Sure it has its similarities, but they are overall totally different mangas! If you are wondering how there is strategy in the current battles, here is a link to a thread I made a while back to give people many examples of that strategy:

I am done. P.S. No offense to DBZ. DBZ is still awesome.

Thak you. I'm sick of people comparing Naruto to DBZ. WHile DBZ certainly had an influence on Naruto, Naruto has much better plot and characters.

Naruto and Sasuke = Goku and Vegeta

Uchiha = Sayians

almost all characters gets neglected just like dbz.

Naruto gets constant powerup, the battle are no longer the way it used to be, what happen to tactical battles, or luck, or typical power instead of OP

Didn't read, sorry.

Juubi has yet to destroy the planet. Saiyan Saga Vegeta > NV

You must be registered for see images

Edit: Went back and read.

Naruto isn't like DBZ, but DBZ is far from being as black and white as people make it out to be.

Villains -

The Saiyans were employed by Frieza to own/destroy planets for him. Raditz sees Goku hasn't done that, tries to coerce him to do so.

Nappa and Vegeta step in to finish what Raditz failed to do, and gain Immortality from it.

Frieza runs a Galactic Empire. Naturally he's gonna act like he's royalty and own/destroy planets at his leisure. And he goes to Namek because he also wants Immortality to continue his reign.

Dr Gero is basically taking revenge for everything that Goku did as a kid against him and the Red Ribbon Army.

Cell is the culmination of all of DBZ enemies and problems combined into one.

Majin Vegeta is essentially Dark Naruto taken an extra step.

The Buu Saga was the world proving how it can handle itself, just like how the Shinobi Alliance are proving their worth instead of having WMDs do it for them.

Plot - See Villains. I'd just be repeating myself.

Power - Before the Saiyans ordeal, Dragon Ball had attacks that had nothing to do with energy. Some of the stronger fighters in the World Tournament didn't even have energy based attacks. Some were mind control, Electricity, Pressure point attacks, and someone even used his smell as a power.

im calling it right now. naruto akipuudens narrator is going to be samuel L jackson.

the kamehameha is more than capable of destroying planets though. i still dont get how the good guys in dbz throw around so much more power than the bad guys that destroy planets yet the good guys only destroy mountains. because theyre careful.
