Plot kept them alive cuz without the main protagonist the show can't survive with Sakura as the main lead.

It took a**pulls, and plot convenience to keep them alive

Kaguya,Hagaromo,Hamura,and 10 tails Madara are stronger than all forms of Naruto and Sasuke

They're in the Top 6 at best
