I say Naruto cuz he spend more time with Jiraya than Shikamaru did with Asuma

i think Jiraiya-boy and asuma sensei did as they went through it while the others are still alive ;o
but for the sake of the poll.. naruto boy as thats shika's first death of someone close.. for naruto everyone close ends up dying or running off to get MS and go on a mad one

it was the other way round, shikamaru's trainer was all the time asuma and they had for the whole manga a close connection, whereas jiraya and naruto "only" really spent 3 years together.
On the other hand, jiraya was some kind of family for naruto, but probably you could also say that about asuma, only with the difference that shika still has his family. but having someone to talk about it just let you recover faster and doesnt reduce the pain itself.
btw, from own experience i can say that it's a huge difference between seeing someone dying and finally his corpse or to just know that you'll never meet him again because he's dead. so i'll go with shika on this.

I agree with Revan its really another thing to see some1 dying yourself or somebody to tell you that a person close to you died

Shikamaru : he saw his sensei died infront of his very own eye, and couldn't help much but watch...
Naruto : he didn't say his sensei died infront of his eye.. but if he would be there , of course he would help ....

Well, Naruto with out doubt, he had everyone hate him, and then overcame that, thats already 10x as much pain as shikamaru's sensei died in front of him.. naruto lost jiraiya.. that equals it out (w/o villagers hating him). Then Naruto didnt have any parents so.. Shikamaru can go sit in a corner and play chess with himself, he's had little to no pain compared to naruto

This is a subjective question sines to each of us a lost of a loved one is different and the pains maybe different but just as valuable to each and every one of us. There is no scale for us to measure someones else's lost. To each of us it is still a lost and a sorrow to bear.
i'd say naruto because i think their bond was really a father/son kind of thing. i mean, jiraiya spent time talking to him and even bought him his new orange and black jumpsuit, don't forget the ice cream!!
also, he'd hate himself for not being there when jiraiya died. he'd probably be thinking "if i were there, things could've been different, he might not have died"..
