And if he spent more time developing self, he would have been a better Shinobi than Sasuke. This is why fans are lashing back at him now because they have realize that Naruto and Sasuke only had tension because of the same reason Naruto and everyone else had tension: He refused to open his eyes to other ideals.
Kishimoto set it up in such a way that Naruto spent all his time trying to force his ideas on others that it would have to back fire at somepoint. Rock lee took a loss when the guy who put in the least work was stronger than him by the end of part 1 and not only that Naruto literally forced himself into the position of Hokage and I don't think it was unconsciously done. How can you say you want to be hokage with such passion yet have ZERO passion in the developing yourself in the things required of a Hokage but yet still you became hokage because you used the power of the people around you to get your point across to the world.
Not once did Naruto take a fight on his own because he had to, it was always because he had to get his point across.
