One piece is less filler but the drag out the cannon content. One piece episodes cover 1 - 2 chapters each episode while Naruto covers 2-3. So it's really up to the preference. If your looking for complete anime without much filler or stretched out cannon there is Hunter x Hunter, Full metal alchemist. And for ongoing anime i'd recommend Jojo's Bizarre adventure or Seven Deadly sins.

I seriously feel like the main reason the series has so much filler is that they are contractually obligated to give a certain amount of work to the voice actors in order to retain those actors for the duration of the series. So they need to find ways to bring back old characters, or give sufficient screen time to side characters, and we end up seeing shit like the Part 1 rookies hanging out with Akatsuki.

These fillers feel so random and childish. Everyone is out of character, not of their use of Jutsu makes sense (Nagato's freakout, bringing a building down in an uncontrollable fit of rage just because someone mildly threatened Yahiko, is old example).

You are aware this filler takes place in a book of Jiraiya which Tsunade reads in her dream, right? Its like a double layer separating it from the regular Naruto world and plot, so talking about people acting out of character here is nonsense.

Great...more filler episodes. If I ever recommended Naruto to a friend I'd have to write out a list of canon episodes for them. Then they'd probably be shocked that half...no, probably more than half of the anime was filler. It's sad really.

Yeah man. Good god the anime is jacked with fillers. Damn, if they had half the fillers they do now we'd probably be finishing up on kaguya by now. The sad part is, animation will likely continue to not match up to Kishi's detail. It baffles me how SP is the same company that does the animation for Tokyo Ghoul and Bleach.
