(Naruto Nips 001) Extra Scene: The Hammock

Scene I: Konoha Training Grounds
Kakashi is facing Naruto, holding sheets of thin paper

Naruto shouts in disappointment

Naruto: "Whaaat!? We're doing this again?"

Kakashi: "You were the one who wanted to try and develop your second element, Naruto. So that's how we are going to do this! Just take this chakra paper and listen."

Kakashi hands Naruto a slip

Kakashi: "The problem with developing a shinobi's second element is that he/she already developed their first. You've already mastered producing your native element, Wind, so you--"

a small rip is heard--Naruto filled the chakra paper with Wind energy

Kakashi: "....still aren't listening."

Naruto: "Hey, hey Kakashi! I'm trying to develop a second element, not continue training Wind!"

Kakashi: "Fool! That's exactly how one brings it out! Remember: you already mastered the Wind element. So the training for you now is to affect that chakra paper in any other way WITHOUT ripping it in half: otherwise, you are still reinforcing your native element. Also keep in mind in the past training that the chakra paper reacts at the slightest hint of chakra influence. So mastering your second element is effectively 2000% harder.

Naruto heaves back in astonishment: his mouth is agape

Naruto: "It's going to take me ages to finish this!"

Kakashi: "Good! Then I'll just leave you with these stacks of chakra paper while I *points* go over to that tree and read Make Out Fanfiction."

Kakashi makes his way to a tree, then turns his head back and smirks

Kakashi: "Just call me over when you need more..."

Naruto: (No problem! I'll just do what I did before and summon a bunch of shadow clones to speed the process up...) "Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

A large group of Naruto clones appear and each take a slip of chakra paper

They each shoot chakra into the paper. In a matter of seconds, the paper rips in half. Naruto dismisses the clones and walks over to Kakashi

Naruto: "...Uhm hehe, Kakashi-sensei, can I have some more paper?"

Kakashi: "For Pete's sake, I didn't even open the book. I should have known that you would be through with the paper shortly. Alright, come with me."

Naruto follows Kakashi back to where they were. He pulls out a scroll from his bag and throws it to the ground. He puts his palm on the seal engraved

Kakashi: "Summoning Jutsu!"

Mountains of chakra paper burst forth from the scroll, flying in all directions. Several large piles are thrown together around the two. Naruto holds his head in agony.

Naruto: "no no no no no! Is this what I neeeeed??"

Kakashi: "Okay, have fun."

Kakashi returns to his tree

The mountains of chakra paper is depleted; Naruto still found no progress. He's bending down clenching his knees, sweat pouring down his face

Naruto: "I can't believe I still didn't get anywhere. Uhh, I'll be right back Kakashi-sen...sei..?"

Kakashi " Mmmhmm hmmhmm HMMHMM.. Oh, right, go right ahead, take a break, don't mind me."

Scene: Central outcropping next to the forum where most shops congregate and await customers. A partly-cloudy day with lazy breezes.

Naruto stands next to two large trees in the forum where a well-knitted hammock is spread out, waiting for anyone to lie down. Naruto feels a sense of nostalgia

Naruto: "The hammock, huh?"

He hops on the hammock and stretches out, gazing at the sky

Naruto: "I wonder when the last time I rested here last was?"

Shikamaru: "Alright Chouji, looks great, you can come down from there!"

Chouji: "Fantastic! Release!"

{Chouji returns to normal size. He greets Shikamaru, Naruto, Hinata, Ino, Sakura, and Kiba, who were watching him.}

Kiba: "This will be the best way for anyone to rest!"

Shikamaru: "I personally think the idea of an outdoor bed looking at the sky is the finest way to clear my thoughts after training. Hard shingles or itchy grass is too annoying for me."

Naruto: "Seeing as how I train five times as hard as any of you, I'll be using this the most!"

Kiba: "Or just because you fail often at the most basic of exercises?"

Naruto: "What did you say idiot!?"

Sakura: "Well that is some parts true, your chakra control is the worst out of our team, Naruto."

Naruto: "S-sakura-chan.."

{the group laughs}

Hinata: "The Hyuuga-clan's manor is too far away from here...I'm not sure if I would be using it this much..."

Shikamaru: "Sorry Hinata, you got the short end of the stick on this one. The Nara clan's forest, Sakura, Ino, and Naruto's apartments, and Kiba's dens are all at finely-even lengths to the hammock, which is at the center. Hell, even the training grounds at the edge of Konoha is not too far from here."

Kiba: "Maybe you'll use it right after we come back from missions!"

Hinata: "S-sure.."

Ino: "From now on, none of us have any excuse from taking a nice break after exhausting training!"

Naruto is snoring, occasionally jabbing around in his sleep. Hinata is ambling over slowly, breathing heavily.

Hinata: "I'm so exhausted...Neji is just too strong. I'm glad Father is helping me out a little bit...but I don't feel getting any stronger at all."

Hinata squints at the two large trees, Naruto hidden from the hammock.

Hinata: "I never even used this and it's still here...I'll just lay on the hammock for a little while."

She hops on the hammock and collapses, not noticing Naruto being within inches of her. Naruto continues snoring, completely oblivious of the extra visitor.

Ino and Sakura take a stroll through the forum, appearing to be searching for something.

Sakura: "Where is Naruto? Kakashi said he was in training but he hasn't been back for hours."

Ino: "I can't believe our luck. We just happened to be by the training grounds and used us for a search party."

Sakura: "Did you see his face? You know he just wanted to read that book of his. He's so wrapped up in Make-Out that you can use it as a weapon against him!"

They both giggle at the glaring truth in Kakashi's weakness, then peer over the two large trees supporting the hammock

Ino: "Hey look over there! The hammock is swaying, maybe Naruto took a rest up there."

Sakura: "Wouldn't doubt it for a second."

They each climb on different branches to see Hinata curled up in a ball next to Naruto, who's spread out in a cross-like pattern. Sakura's right eyebrow twitches. Ino decides this would be a great time to poke fun at Sakura

Ino: "Aww, now would you look at that? I knew they would make a great couple!"

Sakura jumps up and down with fists in the air

Sakura: "Naruto!! What the hell do you think you're doing!?"

Naruto unconsciously jumps away from the hammock with a yelp, instinctively to Sakura's shouting. His foot is caught in the net of the hammock and he tumbles into the ground

Naruto: "Wha...Sakura-chan and Ino...Hey, hey why are you red in the face?"

Sakura rolls up her sleeves. Naruto bolts away from her to get away from a beating of his life

Hinata wakes up and looks around repeatedly

"I wonder who is making so much noise?"

Ino smirks, ever present in stirring up mayhem, and leans forward next to her ear

Ino: "So you didn't notice Naruto laying beside you when you used the hammock?"

Hinata: "what?? N-no way!"
