Naruto Live Action Movie Director Gives Update on Film

Naruto is the biggest anime/manga series worldwide behind the behemoth known as Dragon Ball. When a live action Naruto movie was announced, fans were not too happy seeing as what was done with Dragon Ball and many other franchises. The Director for the Naruto Live Action Movie, Michael Gracey, recently provided an update on the Lionsgate-backed film. He says the script for the movie is still being worked on. To put into perspective, Gracey was first signed onto direct the film back in 2015 so it’s been quite a while this script has been worked on. The reason? Gracey wants to make sure it gets the approval of Naruto’s original creator, Masashi Kishimoto. Specifically, Gracey said:

I don’t know [if it will be my next film], to be honest. You know Kishimoto, who created the original series, he’s just a genius. So many Hollywood adaptations of really popular manga series just don’t get it right, and for me what was really important was that if I was gonna do Naruto, I wanted to actually work with Kishimoto and get a script to a stage where he would look at it and be excited about realizing it. Because no one knows the world better than the person who created it.

So for me, as it stands, we’re still working on the script. Because until that script is at a level that I’m excited about, I have no interest in destroying an amazing franchise, as has happened before. But I think the great thing is that everyone involved, from Lionsgate to the producers, are all of the same mind. Everyone knows how precious this property is and to me it’s incredibly exciting, and I love the work that I’ve gotten to do on it to date. At this stage, no one is going to go into production until we’ve got a script that excites everyone. So whether it’s my next one or not, I don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see.

Will is one thing, action is another, even if the director wants this to be good doesn't mean it will be.

noooooppppeeee....

first off, since this is hollywood -liongate to back, they better have a decent, close to accurate casting. If I see a dyed blonde girl of non caucasian origin for naruto or some non asian to play sasuke, I will lose my marbles.

2nd, I hate when people stick close to the anime design of characters (like the hair, especially the hair!)

they just don't look good in live action. then.. and then, here's the best part, the clothes design is changed from the anime. they keep the friggin hair but not the clothes! ARGHHH!!!!

Imo it’s literally impossible to adapt something like naruto in a right way in live action at all, let alone a Hollywood backed anime adaptation. At best, it’ll be a cheese fest
