Chapter Five Part Eight: The Two Swordsmen Rivals!

OST:

Ryokudo (rushing forward): I’m going to make us even for the last time we fought.

Ryokudo had one hand on his hat, still holding the brim over his eyes. The other was placed on the hilt of his sword, ready for a frontal attack. The young mans sword was much like Toppuu’s fathers, the only feature that really separated the two was that it had a navy-blue hilt with a bright white grip. Unlike Gekko, Ryokudo wore long white robes, which came down to his ankles in length. He wore sandals as well, ones that were of the traditional samurai. Toppuu, realizing that Ryokudo has taken the offensive, quickly follows suite, not wanting to lose early. His drive can be seen in his eyes, as the passion of rivalry has taken root in the battle.

Toppuu (rushing forward as well): I was actually thinking that I would put up yet another win on my side, pushing me two ahead of you. You don’t stand a chance now. I have my father’s move almost completely down pat.

Ryokudo (grinning under the shade of his straw hat): Go on. I’m not scared of your Dance of the Crescent Moon. It’s weak in comparison to what I’ve learned.

The two moved closer, now 100 feet from each other.

Toppuu (almost laughing): You should be. It’s almost absurd to think that you could block it.

Ryokudo (still grinning, his deeper voice resonating in Toppuu’s head): Who said anything about blocking it?

The two were now 50 feet from each other. Toppuu left his father’s red-hilted katana in place, weaving a single handisgn. Four fingers, two on each hand, crossed each other. Two Shadow Clones appear on each side adjacent to Toppuu. Knowing full well what attack was being prepared, Ryokudo continued forward, keeping his confident grin. The two finally met, as Toppuu released his attack:

Toppuu (in a lower voice): Dance of the Crescent Moon.

Each Clone attacks from both sides of Ryokudo. The left raises his sword, attacking from above, while the right lowers his sword, attacking from below. Toppuu comes from the middle, moving his sword over and around him like in an orbital pattern.

Ryokudo (talking mid-movement): Hmph. You think you can beat me with this simple trick.
As soon as he says that, he advances at high speeds, moving right past Toppuu, stopping abrubtly a couple feet behind him.

Ryokudo: Setsuna.

A flurry of visible slashes follows the word, cutting Toppuu in various places around his body. Toppuu’s face scrunched up in pain. He turned around to look at Ryokudo, who seemed to be laughing.

Ryokudo: Hehehehe….HAHAHAHAHA. Did you really think you could beat me with an attack like that?!? There is one weakness to such an attack, and I have used it against you flawlessly.

Toppuu (visibly in pain): Well…You should know that I have more techniques. However, I don’t need those, because it only takes one to beat you.

Ryokudo’s smile quickly faded. Toppuu was now standing, preparing himself for another attack.

Toppuu: *Unfortunately, I don’t have enough chakra to create two shadow clones. I’ll have to settle with one.*

OST:

Toppuu wove a single handsign, calling upon another shadow clone. The clone charged ahead, its cloned sword drawn. The original and the clone kept moving back and forth, trying to trick Ryokudo into which one was attacking. Ryokudo grinned mockingly, placing his hat over his eyes, and running forward once more. His sword drawn, he appears to be charging himself for the same attack once more. Toppuu runs forward, using the Dance of the Crescent Moon to capture his enemy. Ryokudo notices this, and starts laughing hysterically while running.

Ryokudo: hmhmhmhm…BAHAHAHAHA The same attack with only one clone?! Are you insane? You know as well as I do that it takes two clones to perform the Dance of the Crescent Moon. What are you planning on doing?

OST:

Toppuu continued advancing, not saying a word. Sweat was dripping from his longer hair, which he kept styled like his father but without the headgear to absorb the liquid. Spoltches of blodd covered his blue jumpsuit, the wear and tear easily visible. Ryokudo seemed slightly annoyed by his rival’s action.

Ryokudo: Tsk. Alright then. Have it your way.

The three met mid-field, colliding instantly. Ryokudo appeared behind Toppuu, numerous amounts of slashes covering
Toppuu’s body. Ryokudo waited for the cry of agony. To his amazement, all he heard was the quiet poof of smoke, the signal for the defeat of a shadow clone. High above Ryokudo’s head is the real Toppuu, swinging his sword vigorously, announcing his attack.

Toppuu: Vacuum Sword!

Toppuu horizontally slashes his weapon, where a large amount of compressed wind chakra appears, forming a vacuum as the jutsu is cast.

Ryokudo had barely enough time to turn around and see the attack that appeared before him. The Vacuum Sword struck him in the abdomen, slashing open his robe and part of his chain link armor that all ninja wear. Ryokudo was thrown backwards, landing on his butt several feet from his original position. A cut ran across the length of his stomach, only breaking enough skin to cause slight bleeding. Ryokudo grasped his stomach, blood flowing slowly over his hand. He looked up, angry at the wound he had just endured. The Grass shinobi stood, grimacing as he rose. He started running towards Toppuu, enraged by the battle.

Toppuu: Tsk. You never knew how to control your anger much, even when we were kids. When you took shelter in the Leaf Village, you always picked fights with various kids.

Ryokudo: SHUT UP!!! IT’S BEEN YEARS SINCE WE WERE FRIENDS.

Toppuu (angrily): That’s not the point. It’s been awhile since you’ve left, and I was initially sad to see you go. I was actually excited to see your name in this year's Chuunin Exams. The important part is my interest in that jutsu. It wasn’t one that you said your father used.

Ryokudo: It’s none of your business.

The two meet mid field once more, clashing swords. They were both low on chakra, so kenjutsu was kept to a minimum. Naruto sat watching the battle calmly, murmuring to himself.

Naruto: I know that move. So, he’s alive.

Hinata (noticing Naruto’s murmuring): Who Naruto-kun?

Naruto (looking up): Sasuke.

Hinata (alarmed): B-but I thought he died in the war? His chakra disappeared!

Naruto: I know. I couldn’t even sense any bad emotions either, and he’s full of them. I’m trying to figure out how he survived, and why he didn’t return again. He promised that we would battle it out for Hokage, and he would return nonetheless.

Hinata: Hmmmm.

The two on the battlefield kept attacking each other, slashes and parries left and right. Leverage going to neither side.

Ryokudo (loudly saying): I need to beat you! You don’t understand. My Village needs Chuunin just to survive. Do you know what assasins and mercenaries will do to a village in need? It’s complete hell, trying to fend of wave after wave of killers. They almost took my mother…

OST:

Toppuu began to attack, breaking off the clash that was in the center of the field. He wove a single hand sign with blade in hand, slashing it across the air horizontaly.

Toppuu: Vacuum Sword!

Ryokudo watched as the attack neared him. Ryokudo sprinted forward, sliding under the vacuum and appearing almost in front of Toppuu. Ryokudo started pounding away with his sword, trying to break Toppuu’s now erected defense. Tears poured from Ryokudo’s eyes as he kept slashing downwards. As Ryokudo reaches all the way back to deliver a final blow, Toppuu suddenly manages to gain the upper hand. In an instant he slashes his sword across Ryokudo’s face and at the same time kicks his legs, causing the Grass Genin to fall abruptly. Toppuu places the end of his katana in front of Ryokudo’s face, stopping just short of his nose.

Ryokudo stared at Toppuu for awhile, looking up and down the length of Hayate Gekko’s former sword. He grimaced again, grasping his stomach abruptly. He glanced back at Toppuu, all anger leaving instantly. Toppuu noticed the sudden bliss of his former friends face. He sheathed his sword, and extended his right arm. A small smile appeared on his face.

*Flashback*

OST:

A young boy, about five, ran hastily down the stairs of an old style Japanese house. An old woman greeted him on his way into the living quarters, her voice filled with age and wisdom with a large amount of kindness.

Woman (smiling): Good morning Toppuu-kun. What’s the rush this morning?

Young Toppuu (happily): Good Morning Grandma! I’m going to play ninja with some kids and Ryokudo!

Woman: Alright dear. Is that a small kendo sword you have?

Young Toppuu (excitedly): Yeah! I wanted to use it today, like mommy and daddy do.

Woman (slightly alarmed, her mind trailing off): *Oh Yugao. Your boy is so happy that you told him the stories of his
father. I wish you were back here to see him grow.* Alright Toppuu, don’t get to hurt now okay?

Young Toppuu: Okay Grandma! Bye!

Grandma: Bye-bye.

Toppuu happily rushed off to the playground, to where his friends and best friend were waiting. The nearby Grass Village had been taking refuge in the Leaf until the Fourth Ninja War was over. News that the village was destroyed by the ten-tails had completely devastated the Grass community, and Toppuu was happy to have Ryokudo join him in playing ninja, just to take his mind off of things. He arrived at the playground shortly, only to find a site he wish he hadn’t. Ryokudo was sitting on the ground, crying, while the other kids laughed and teased.

The kids began to beat Ryokudo, throwing punches and kicking the small boy until he was lying on the ground. Blood started appearing all over the Grass child. Toppuu ran over to his aid, hitting his “friends” with his small practice sword, beating them away from Ryokudo. One of the larger kids grabbed the wooden sword, and punched young Toppuu in the face.

Large Kid: If you’re going to defend this Grass loser, then give up. You’re outnumbered.

Toppuu remembered something that one of the Genin said, head held high with a long blue scarf rapped around his neck. It was something that the hero Naruto said to the evil Pain.

Toppuu: Give up…On me giving up!

OST:

Toppuu sprinted towards the kids, swinging his sword at the larger one. The large kid reached to grab it, finding his hand completely empty. Toppuu brought his “sword” around, taking out the kid’s legs, putting him on the ground. He noticed that one of the others had grabbed Ryokudo and raised him up by the collar. Toppuu rushed over, bringing the sword down on his arms. The kid immediately let go of Ryokudo, and ran away crying. Toppuu glared at the remaining kids, giving them an eye so evil, even Madara Uchiha would be frightened. They ran off crying, grabbing the large kid as they left.

After he was done, he approached the small black haired child, and extended his right arm.

Young Toppuu: Hey Ryokudo. I’m here; we’ll go back to my house alright.

Ryokudo: (sniff) Okay Toppuu.

The two head back to Toppuu’s house, where his Grandma had already prepared a snack. She rushed to them once she saw the blood that had appeared on the childrens faces.

*Flashback End*

Ryokudo grasps Toppuu’s hand. Suddenly, everything changes. Ryokudo’s sword is thrusted straight through Toppuu’s side. Blood splashes over Ryokudo’s hand and shirt, painting his white linen red. Toppuu’s face is full of surprise and pain, looking down at the wound his former friend has bestowed upon him. Not only that, but he noticed the pain in Ryokudo’s eyes, tears flowing down his rival’s cheeks.

Ryokudo (crying): I-I’m sorry. I-I-I didn’t want it to come to this, but this is what’s necessary for the Grass Village. We need more Chuunin to keep it safe. I hope you can forgive me.

Toppuu: Y-you bastard. (Coughs up blood) Y-you should be s-sor-ry. (faints)

In the distance, Darui is sprinting towards Toppuu as he falls into Ryokudo’s arms. Sakura has joined them and proceeds towards the young Gekko. They carry the severly injured Toppuu off of the field with Ryokudo following close behind. As they reach the hospital, another ninja is stabbed with a sword. This one, an ANBU operative, had just been found by the Sound Ninja and slain by the Otokage with longsword. The Otokage sheaths it behind his back, and begins talking.

Otokage: Find the rest and kill them. They have no need to know what’s going on.

The Five Sound Ninja: Right away sir.

The ANBU did not see it coming. The very sounds they made by breathing were heard by the Five Sound Ninja, and killed from behind. The Sound dragged their bodies to the Otokage, showing him which Villages they were from. Two from the Leaf and Mist, and one from the Cloud.

Otokage (grinning): Hmph. So, the Leaf is getting smarter with who they send out. That’s a shame though, as I thought they would send more Mist. Orochimaru, do with them what you wish.

Orochimaru (licking his lips): Of course. I am happy to have new bodies to add to my collection.

OST:

The seven Sound proceed towards the massive hole in the Moutain, where large skeletons and pathways form the place that Obito Uchiha once used as a base. Part of it was closed off due to a landslide, but three Sound Ninja were camped near a hole that led to what was presumabely the Laboratory. The Otokage and Co. landed on the camp site, startling one of his subordinates to the point where he spit out his food.

Sound Ninja #8: O-Otokage-sama! W-what do we owe this pleasure?

Otokage (blandly): Where is the Laboratory?

Sound Ninja #8 (stumbling): U-uh, right this way sir.

The Sound ninja that was just eating grabs a torch and leads them towards the hole. The sun had just started setting as the group entered the tunnel. They traveled for a bit until the group entered a large, open space. One of the sound ninja moved, throwing many shuriken off the walls to produce large amounts of clinking noises. The other’s threw several paper scrolls with inscriptions around where they heard, activating them immediately. The room lit up spontaneously, the light being given off from the scrolls. Around them, thousands of water tanks were filled, with floating eyeballs in each one.

OST:

Orochimaru smiled and laughed maniacally.

Orochimaru: This is fantastic! We have found the key to beating the Five Great Nations! Otokage-sama, what is your plan of action? I want to know!

The Otokage’s eyes flashed, a gleam of red mixed with three black tomoe was shown underneath his Purple Otokage Headress.

Otokage: We will wait ten years until we strike. That will give us more than enough time to collect the manpower.

One of the Sound ninja keeping guard appears once more.

Sound: My Lord, there are fifteen more ANBU Black Ops outside, what should we do.

Otokage: I’ll dispatch of them myself. Orochimaru, this won’t take very long, but set up a Lab for future use.

Orochimaru: Yes my Lord.

The Otokage appeared outside the tunnel, where now twenty ANBU members surrounded the area, perched on various ledges and branches. One of them, with a mask that resembles a cat with various green and red markings on it, pointed something out.

Cat-Masked: T-that’s S-Sasuke Uchiha.

Song:

Another ANBU looked over, asking:

?: Sasuke Uchiha! Tenzo, what should we do?

Tenzo: WHAT! He’s still alive? How is this possible? I need all Earth Style users to slow him down! We must relay this information back to Lady Hokage and Naruto. The rest of you come with me!

Sasuke appears behind him, stabbing Tenzo through his lung with his Kusanagi, coursing Lightning chakra through the blade.

Sasuke: No you don’t. Tsunade has no need to know about this.

As Sasuke thrusted the blade into him, Tenzo’s body started shriveling and became course like wood. The Wood Clone was now recognized, crumbling in front of the Otokage.

Sasuke: Hmph, a clone. To be expected from the last Wood Style user.

OST:

Sasuke swung his blade out, to find the other ANBU was a shadow clone. Five ANBU appeared around Uchiha, surrounding him completely. Tenzo and the rest kept running, as the others placed Earth Release walls around Sasuke.

Sasuke (grinning under the earth): That’s not enough.

Suddenly, Lavender purple chakra appeared, destroying the walls. Sasuke donned the Eternal Mangyeko Sharingan, and sported his final Susano’o. The face covered by an animal-like mask that involved a thin, pointed nose that curved over the eyes. In its right hand was a large black flickering flame orb, and in its left was a grand bow. Sasuke raised his arms, controlling the actions of the Susano’o. He drew the bow back with the right arm, forming arrows out of the Amaterasu Ball.

Sasuke (violently): DIE!

He shot several jet-black arrows in the direction of the each Earth Release Ninja. The arrows arrive a near-light speed, stabbing the ninja, going straight through their bodies and pinning themselves to the ground. Blood poured from the lifeless bodies, except for one, which seemed to be still alive. Sasuke approached him, muttering a question while getting close.

Sasuke (angrily): Where are they?

The Iwagakure smiled and chuckled a bit under his breath. The crimson liquid from his body dripped down his chin from his mouth and painted the dirt right beneath him a deep red.

Iwagakure ANBU: F…..**** you.

The ANBU spat blood in the Otokage’s face, causing Sasuke to draw the Kusanagi in rage, quickly beheading the ANBU operative. He wiped the blade off slowly with a cloth, as to not taint the beauty that was the longsword. Orochimaru lept to his side, almost hissing at him, clearly angry.

Orochimaru: Sasuke, we could have tortured him and got out any information. Now that you killed them all, I’m sure that their bodies will destroy themselves.

Sure enough as he said that, flames lept up onto the body, burning the carcass as to not give away the many secrets that lay within. The jutsu had been cast, and the Sound Leader did not like the look of it. He raised his arm, pointing to the forest abruptly.

Sasuke: Follow them. I want you to kill everyone else and bring the Wood Release user alive. Whoever completes this task will be granted the gift of power. It is one beyond imagination. Now GO!

Sound Ninja: Right.

The Sound Ninja disappeared, leaving to find the pack of ANBU. Sauske places the “Kage” hat back upon his head, and walks back to the underground laboratory with Orochimaru. As they talk, a battle has begun. A fight between two best friends to see who is stronger: Patsuta vs. Fukutsu.

Fukutsu (loudly): I’m better than you Patsuta!

Patsuta: Let’s find out Fukutsu!!!

Next time: Chapter Five Part Nine: For Different Reasons

Authors Notes

1. I'm sorry for the semi-short chapter. I wanted to write more but couldn't fit anything in anywhere. Trust me, the next couple will be fairly long. A lot will happen within those chapters, and I hope you enjoy it.

2. Yes, it's Sasuke. I've always wanted it to BE Sasuke. There are reasons why he betrayed the Leaf again, but it's for reasons that won't be as expected. I hope you can cope with this.

3. There will be more of all the characters that have shown themselves in the Chuunin Exams. I'm not going to make anyone extremely fodder. Most of their roles will be pivotal after the time-skip.

4. There will be a total of Six chapters in the NJA part of the two-three part series. The Sixth will take place after the Exams, and will host a variety of things.

Thanks man! I hoped someone would be surprised!!! No, there was an old man that worked as a spy. It's good to be back! Yep, the next is called The Orange Hokage. I don't know about a third, maybe a two-three chapter epilogue.

That was simply, awesome! Really, Otokage being Sasuke was a great idea... So, I guess your story will be covering a Naruto vs Sasuke battle, uh? :p Sweet!

That cliffhanger was cool to say the least! Can't wait for more :p

thanks man. I knew it would spark everyone's interest and really was the saving grace of the chapter. It will, but I'm not going to say when! It could happen at any time. I'm glad you think that, I want to pump out this chapter, but I have other things taking up my time...

I'm so glad you liked it. I really was a tad worried about this chapter, thinking that Sasuke was the only saving grace.

Alright, this is a good start.

First off, I should say as far as script style goes, yours is the best, most tolerable for me to read. I don't like script, that's no secret, but you pepper in enough description (fairly good description, I might add.) to keep up a good amount of imagery and circumstantial characterization.

Your grammar is also much better than it used to be. There are a few spots of punctuation confusion, however. For example;

"...weaving a single handsign. Four fingers, on two hands crossing each other."

This would probably be better served as one sentence, perhaps using a colon, as such;

"...weaving a single handsign: four fingers on two hands, crossing each other."

Or merely using commas;

"...weaving a single handsign, with four fingers, ontwo hands, crossing each other."

This allows for better flow to the story. Completely proper and flowing punctuation can be tricky; i mess it up pretty often, but it really helps turn a good story into a great story.

As far as plot goes, yours is very sound. Nice reveal and cliffhanger. Your action scenes and the tension between characters are very believable.

All in all, while you have stylistic room for improvement, this was an excellent job. Looking Forward to the rest.
