Chapter Four Part Five: The Tournament Begins!
The 63 genin have gone to their designated areas for placement in the preliminaries. The preliminaries are a more common part of the test, as there are much more genin each exam. The Leaf shinobi are all conversing
together, talking about their experiences in the survival exam.
Kameha: My team is probably the best out here!
Toppuu: As if, we heard you almost got slaughtered by the Hot Water group…
Fukutsu: Hold on there. We were the ones slaughterING.
Toppuu: Suuurrrreee you were…
Dyno (admittedly): Toppuu, we almost were beaten by that team from the mist.
Toppuu (almost hissing at him): Shut up. No one needed to know that.
Shiga: It wouldn’t have mattered, I would have told them all anyway.
Toppuu (alarmed): How?
Shiga: My team and I were watching the whole time.
Toppuu (with a defeated look): Oh…
Patsuta: At least we all made it out.
Shibi: That would be true, if Shikama, Inori, and Choja would actually fight. It seems as though they just tried to talk their way into another scroll.
Patsuta: Tsk. They always tend to talk more than anything else.
Shibi: True.
Kameha: Who do you guys think will win their preliminary battles here?
Hishi Hyuga: Judging by everyone’s skill level, I think the winners of the hidden leaf village will be: Patsuta, Fukutsu, Kameha, Toppuu, and a tie between Shibi, Shinku, Dyno, and me.
Hishi Hyuga is extremely analytical; however, he tends to place others over himself.
Shinku: Oh well, it doesn’t matter to me.
Dyno: I will win!
Hishi: Don’t get too ahead of yourself Dyno. You don’t even use ninjutsu.
Dyno: It doesn’t matter! I will win with taijutsu only, just like Lee Sensei!
Hishi: He was a master of taijutsu at a young age. You are mediocre at best.
Dyno: Hey! I’m better than mediocre!
Kameha: Let’s face it; you couldn’t even keep up with Naruto Sensei with two gates opened.
Dyno (triumphant): I still can take anyone else here one on one.
Fukutsu: Not really…
Toppuu: Back off team seven.
Kameha: I only tell the truth, it’s not like your swordsmanship is the best either.
Toppuu (angrily): What did you say?
Kameha (teasing): Oh, nothing.
Toppuu: I’ll slice you up right now!
Patsuta: I wouldn’t do that if I were you.
Kameha: We all know you can’t beat Patsuta, so why even bother.
Fukutsu: The only one who can beat him is me!
Hishi: Even then, you still will only have a 30% chance.
The genin continue to argue. The tensions keep on building until an almost all-out brawl occurs. The scene flips to Naruto, talking with the proctors about the survival test, while the genin argue.
Naruto: These crops of genin have surprised me, especially those from the smaller villages.
Bee: The kids are better than expected. They perform like they have practiced.
Darui: Which reminds me, we have to get to the preliminary match. I am the proctor.
Naruto: Right!
Naruto, Darui, and Ibiki leave, while Bee stays at his mansion. He decides to take a break until the tournament.
The scene flips back to the genin. Dyno is about to throw a punch at Hishi.
Dyno: Take it back!
Naruto appears in front of Dyno and grabs his fist. He throws him across the room into a wall.
Naruto (angrily): What is going on!
Patsuta: Naruto Sensei!
Fukutsu (honestly): Just some arguing Naruto Sensei.
Naruto: You guys can take it out on each other during the tournament.
Dyno: Hmph.
Naruto: Speaking of which, I think the preliminaries are about to start.
Dyno: Great! The Leaf Village shall triumph!
Darui appears in the room. He says with a booming voice:
Darui: All genin, follow me to the preliminary tournament area!
Song: Either Confrontment or Survival Exam
The genin all get up from their positions. Some awake from their naps, some stretch out from sitting so long. They follow Darui to a training facility that’s only big enough for a one on one. The floor is a mixture of dirt and sand. There are stone pillars surrounding in each of the four corners, and a watch station on the wall in between the seating areas. The seating areas are placed on each wall across from each other. The genin each take their seats next to their village comrades. The all look at the Darui who is in the center.
Darui: Genin! This is a Preliminary Tournament before the main event. We need to weed out the weaker ones before moving on. The tournament will be a one on one, fight almost until death or defeat. Myself and two others will stop you if it exceeds these rules. Other than that, there are no basic fighting rules. The names will appear on the screen, and will be selected manually. We will now get to the first fight.
The screen selects two random shinobi. One from the Cloud and one from the Rain, the Rain shinobi loses to the cloud.
Authors Note: I’m going into more detail of the minor characters fights. look at my authors note at the end of the part.
After the first match, the two selected genin are Hishi Hyuga and a kid from the Star Village: Katakana. They stand up and jump onto the field.
Darui: Alright you two, introduce yourselves.
Hishi: I am Hishi Hyuga of the Hyuga clan. Where are you from?
Katakana: I am Katakana from the Star Village. We are the most underrated small village out there. But I will prove everyone wrong! We are strong!
Hishi: *Thinking* This one’s hot-headed… Star Village, where have I heard that before? It seems like a story that I overheard somewhere. Oh well, no point trying to figure out what jutsu they use if I can’t remember the village itself.
Hishi: Good luck to you.
Katakana: And you as well.
Darui: Alright, now that you two know each other, back up, and prepare for battle.
The two genin back away about 50 feet from each other. Darui looks at both of them and then raises his hands.
Darui (dropping his hands): Begin.
Song: Ultimate Secrets
Hishi: Byakugan.
The blood vessels around the eyes begin to bulge. His pupils dilate a little as well.
Katakana: Kujaku! (Peacock method)
A burst of purple chakra emerges from the back of Katakana, forming feathers in way. The crowd stares in awe at the energy and mumbles among themselves. Hishi looks at the chakra for a long time, trying to analyze it.
Hishi: *Thinking* What is this purple chakra? Where is it coming from? Is he a tailed beast? No, that’s not possible. How could such a low ranking ninja have such an extensive amount of chakra? Maybe my byaukugan will show me something.
Hishi looks at Katakana’s chakra flow with his byakugan. He notices that everything is normal, with only a slight surge in flowing speed.
Hishi: *Thinking* This might be tougher than I thought…
Katakana: Kujaku: Destruction!
A massive spiraling amount of purple chakra goes hurdling towards Hishi.
Hishi: *Thinking* What to do, what to do. I’ll play it safe for now.
Hishi: Eight Trigams: Rotation!
Hishi rotates himself and creates the protective barrier that is Rotation. The purple chakra hits the wall, but doesn’t affect Hishi at all.
Hishi: *Thinking* So, it can be stopped by my Rotation. I can defend myself.
Katakana: Kujaku: Beast!
A beast resembling the wolf is made out of the purple chakra. It starts to move at nice speed towards Hishi. He stands there, ready for his defense.
When the beast is about to hit him, Hishi dodges the blow and sprints toward Katakana. He stands in front of her and…
Hishi: Gentle Fist!
Hishi’s gentle fist connects with one of the major chakra points. He notices it stops the flow of chakra; however, the purple chakra is still flowing.
Song: Bad Situation
Katakana: Kujaku: Destroy!
The chakra surges towards Hishi at an even faster speed. It hits him in the back, knocking him against the nearest wall. Katakana looks to finish the battle.
Katakana: Kujaku: Choke!
A rope of purple chakra surrounds Hishi and strangles him. Before losing consciousness, Darui comes to Hishi’s aid.
Darui: That’s enough. Katakana has won.
Katakana recalls the purple chakra within her body. She calmly takes her seat next to her teammates. The next three battles engage as the waiting Leaf shinobi get antsy.
Dyno: I need to fight!
Toppuu: Calm down Dyno. You will have your chance.
Dyno: I’m just ready to take on anyone right now.
Toppuu: Save the energy for when you need it.
Dyno: Fine.
The genin all look at the screen. The names Dyno Chan and Shinku Yorutsuki appear. Dyno and Shinku look at each other, eyes filled with fire. Lee is sitting behind them, with an excited look on his face.
Lee: Go you two! Fight with the power of youth!
Dyno: Yes Sensei!
Shinku: Hmph. *Thinking* This should be an easy battle. I can just take him out with a simple genjutsu. That loser won’t know what hit ‘em.
The two jump from their seats onto the battlefield. They shake hands and take position. The scene switches to the box, where Naruto and Kakashi are seated.
Naruto: So Kakashi, you decided to watch the preliminaries.
Kakashi has insisted that Naruto called him Kakashi instead of Kakashi Sensei since they are equals.
Kakashi: Yea, a lot of memories from when the original team seven took the exams. I thought I might catch a glimpse of how your team, amongst other Leaf teams, is doing, before the final event.
Naruto: So far, none of my kids have fought yet. The next up are two of Lee’s team: Dyno Chan and Shinku Yorutsuki. Dyno reminds me of Lee when he was younger, but he can use ninjutsu. Shinku is a ninjutsu and genjutsu focused ninja, and even learned some of his genjutsu from Kurenai. This should be an interesting match.
Kakashi: Hmm. That it should. *Thinking* This reminds me of the time Kurenai went up against Gai in my Chuunin Exams.
Naruto: I’m going to join my team to watch the match if you want to come.
Kakashi: Sure, why not.
Naruto and Kakashi appear behind team seven. They turn around, startled.
The three: Naruto Sensei!
Patsuta: Kakashi Hatake?
Fukutsu: Who’s Kakashi Hatake?
Patsuta: One of the greatest leaf shinobi ever, after Naruto Sensei of course.
Kakashi: How’s it goin’? And you’d be right about that, but I was Naruto’s sensei a while ago, he still can’t beat me.
Naruto: Don’t get ahead of yourself Kakashi. The last time we faced off was when I returned to the village after training with Pervy Sage.
Kakashi: True. But you still haven't mastered enough areas of the shinobi to beat me. I can out think you as well.
Naruto (in defeat): Hmph.
Song: Confronting
They all turn to look at the battlefield. Darui is explaining the rules. He raises his hands, and gives them the signal to fight. Dyno sprints toward Shinku. Shinku weaves a couple hand signs and releases a wave of lightning. Dyno jumps over the lightning and delivers a kick to Shinku. The kick sends him back, and Shinku slides on the ground. Shinku prepares a genjutsu. The genjutsu takes over, and is aimed to mess with Dyno’s morale.
Mocking him and teasing him, Shinku plans on attacking him when he’s at his weakest.
Dyno: Shinku…This will not work. I will not be mocked and taunted.
Dyno’s chakra turns green and he breaks from the genjutsu.
Shinku: What?!?
Flashback
Dyno: Lee Sensei, who was your teacher?
Lee: The awesome Might Gai! Why do you ask?
Dyno: Is he able to use ninjutsu?
Lee: Yes. He chooses not to though.
Dyno: Where can I find him? I need to ask a couple of questions.
Lee: He’s probably out training where we used to train. That’s probably where you will find him.
Dyno: Ok, I better get going then.
Lee: I’ll come with you. I haven’t seen Gai Sensei in a couple of days.
The two meet up with Gai and exchange greetings. Dyno brings up a very peculiar question.
Dyno (curiously): Gai Sensei, did you ever have to face anyone with a really good Genjutsu?
Gai (in his usual tone): Yes Dyno, I did. Her name was Kurenai Yuhi. Her genjutsu was outstanding!
Dyno: Then how did you counter it?
Gai: I broke myself out by opening the first gate. The surge of chakra instantly cleared my mind. After that, it was over.
Dyno: Thank you Gai Sensei! I really appreciate it. I was worried I would have trouble with genjutsu users in the upcoming Chuunin Exams.
Gai: No problemo!
End of Flashback
Song: Rinkai
Dyno appears next to Shinku.
Dyno: Severe Leaf Hurricane!
The kick sends Shinku to a wall and cracks the wall. Shinku coughs up some blood. He is now bruised all over.
Shinku leaves the wall and starts to make hand signs when Dyno appears behind him.
Shinku: *Thinking* Dancing Leaf Shadow!
Dyno: Gotcha!
Dyno kicks Shinku to the ground. The impact creates a massive amount of dust. Shinku can’t be seen visibly. A large streak of lightning emerges from the dust and hits Dyno. It knocks him back and electrocutes him, causing various burns and bruises. These add to the pain that Dyno feels after opening the Gate of Opening.
Dyno: damn…
Shinku (smirking with blood on the side of his mouth, and panting as well): You thought you would win this battle didn’t you. That trick of yours may have broken you out of your genjutsu, but ninjutsu is better than taijutsu.
Dyno (getting up): It doesn’t matter. I’ll beat you with taijutsu, and prove that one can become a great ninja with only taijutsu.
Shinku: That’s hilarious. Who taught you that, Lee Sensei? He always focuses on the body, which in my opinion, is rather stupid.
Dyno: Take that back.
Shinku: Never.
Dyno: Very well. Gate of Healing! Open!
Dyno is encased in another shroud of green colored chakra. The battle ensues as the part ends.
Chapter 4 Part 6 The Preliminaries End!
Chapter 5 will solely be the tournament itself. There will be at least five parts.
Authors Note: I wanted to give the minor characters more time in this series. In my opinion, the minor characters had minimal screen time, and in the case of Neji Hyuga, nobody really cared all that much. The Preliminaries will not showcase battles by the three members of team seven. Those epic battles are reserved for the Tournament.

Gai: I broke myself out by opening the first gate. The surge of chakra instantly cleared my mind. After that, it was over.
Dyno: Thank you Gai Sensei! I really appreciate it. I was worried I would have trouble with genjutsu users in the upcoming Chuunin Exams.

Dyno appears next to Shinku.
Dyno: Severe Leaf Hurricane!
The kick sends Shinku to a wall and cracks the wall. Shinku coughs up some blood. He is now bruised all over.
Shinku leaves the wall and starts to make hand signs when Dyno appears behind him.
Shinku: *Thinking* Dancing Leaf Shadow!
Dyno: Gotcha!
Dyno kicks Shinku to the ground. The impact creates a massive amount of dust. Shinku can’t be seen visibly. A large streak of lightning emerges from the dust and hits Dyno. It knocks him back and electrocutes him, causing various burns and bruises. These add to the pain that Dyno feels after opening the Gate of Opening.
Dyno: damn…
Shinku (smirking with blood on the side of his mouth, and panting as well): You thought you would win this battle didn’t you. That trick of yours may have broken you out of your genjutsu, but ninjutsu is better than taijutsu.
Dyno (getting up): It doesn’t matter. I’ll beat you with taijutsu, and prove that one can become a great ninja with only taijutsu.
Shinku: That’s hilarious. Who taught you that, Lee Sensei? He always focuses on the body, which in my opinion, is rather stupid.
Dyno: Take that back.
Shinku: Never.
Dyno: Very well. Gate of Healing! Open!
Dyno is encased in another shroud of green colored chakra. The battle ensues as the part ends.

Chapter 5 will solely be the tournament itself. There will be at least five parts.
Authors Note: I wanted to give the minor characters more time in this series. In my opinion, the minor characters had minimal screen time, and in the case of Neji Hyuga, nobody really cared all that much. The Preliminaries will not showcase battles by the three members of team seven. Those epic battles are reserved for the Tournament.
