Naruto has clearly been underestimated battlewise.i have noticed that any thread made about naruto is always obscured towards his intelligense.but lemme elaborate.
Naruto is an intelligent shinobi's worst nightmare,why?.
An intelligent shinobi plans ahead right?and theres no how the plan doesnt always have one or two loopholes.now naruto is someone that goes with the flow,he later adapts to the situation,and brings out successful plans with GUARANTEED success in the heat of the battle,see what i mean.NATURAL INSTINCT.Bookwise,naruto sucks,but dont underestimate his strategy and planning,atleast he was a prankster.getting by jounins is no small feat.he was a character that learns by doing,it doesnt make him dumb.
He mastered rasengan in a week,which took minato years to do.
He added an element to rasengan which minato couldnt achieve
He planned the kakuzu fight,using his clones and outsmarted him with share instinct.
He took out the vital part of pain with share battle smarts.
Decieved deva path,by throwing himself at him.
He escaped from 4 tails with pure battle smarts.
Decieved tobi,and freed the 4tails.freed the tailed beast too.
Worked with kakashi decisively in cracking obito's mask.
Harbores the smartest creature /being since rikoudu's era,due to how he outsmarted obito by giving kakashi chakra.kakashi even commented that kurama thinks on a war commander's level,and he is in naruto.
Naruto has always beaten those who are far smarter than him.Btw he stiil alive and well,so tell me if he's still dumb?

Why is this such a big subject? Naruto is not a book smart character, he does some dumb sh*t and charges straight in without thinking at times, however, Naruto because he doesn't over complicate stuff, managed to think of a peacful way to talk to Nagato. Naruto can come up with clever strategies in battle and out-smart the occasional experianced bad guy.

Naruto has a lot of his priorities right, he just never really grew up in the best learning enviroment to be "smart".

Naruto was the one who came up with the idea of using 3 clones instead of 1 to be able to form the new jutsu. The clones only helped him to grasp change in chakra nature. You may look at this as simple but in the Naruto universe no one could figure it out not even the 4th.
It doesn't matter if it was plot related Naruto outsmarted him end of story.
Yes he outsmarted him, Nagato did not expect it and was not prepared for the outcome.

Even jiraiya commented that it seemed impossible for minato adding ano element to rasengan.
Clones are part of his power,no plot shield.he outsmarted him,by qouting ino and chouji's words.

I never said Naruto is any smarter than a wall, I just merely stated he is great at battles and can understand strategies...

Well, come on to be fair he had slightly gone mad lol. I readily admit, fighting Pain, Tsunades slug was telling him the information that they had, but tbh Pain is nearly impossible to beat if its new to you.
