remember during the neji vs naruto fight when they clashed for the last time. both of them were knocked back and naruto started digging. there's no way naruto knew where neji was so he had to be a sensor. Naruto was underground he couldn't of known where neji was.

I don't think he's a sensor. He couldn't feel Zabuza, neither in Kakashi's test he couldn't realize his sensei was gone and he was punching him-self etc...

I think it's safe to say there's definitely consistency issues no matter which way you try to spin it. But then again a lot of minor things like this are inconsistent in the series. I'd say Naruto is generally not a very good sensor, (until he gained control of the nine tails of course) but he has had his moments.

I feel the ability levels of characters are at times altered for the purpose of plot as well as comedy. You could say it's consistently inconsistent I suppose. One could also argue that all abilities of these "human" characters are inconsistent because they themselves are never in a consistent state of being. They grow and change and tire etc. Basically what I'm saying is that because of this it's difficult to pinpoint but you can garner tendencies through past observations and make a case one way or the other.

His father, 4th Hokage, can sense only by pointing his finger on the ground. May be genetically Naruto inherit this type of sensor ability, but he did not realize and in incident fight with Neji, Naruto able to release this ability.
