well they almost made it seem like he can read minds now. He pretty much told Hinata what she was thinking in this scene. i wonder if that was a hint that he may be able to read the minds...... (not sure i believe that but they did make it seem like that) see below

he doesnt read minds. its more like he senses evil and good spirits. he knows when someone is feeln sad. he knows when thats not who they really are. like the white zetsu, he can sense zetsus intent to kill

cmon naruto knows hinata. even i could have pointed out she was feeling bad. look at her facial expression. you can feel she was dissappointed at herself

and naruto knows hinata felt bad about the pain incident.

no.. I agree with you because of what he said to Hinata..it goes like this

Hinata:"The one person I want to protect no matter the cost... always ends up protecting me instead... I guess I really am no good"

Naruto: "Don't worry about it Hinata, I'm pretty lame anyway, considering you've already had to save me at least twice now!"

Now under some circumstances I myself would say no and dismiss it as happenstance, but in no way are these normal circumstances. For one his response is not one acting off of what would appear as a reflection of a what she appeared to be feeling. His response is that of a sound, resolute, understanding of what she was thinking, not and assumption! So yes I agree with you and believe that there are secrets to the new techniques naruto has developed that he himself is not aware of yet. So until the story unfolds I am just going to sit in my corner and wait for it!!

No he can't read minds, but he can detect people through their negative emotions, and like someone said earlier, he is now the best sensor in the whole series.
