The moon is out, it is clearly visible, there is still not a cloud in the sky. Naruto sits in his office staring up at the night sky, the last few shops begin to close up and people make their way back to their houses. There is a knock on his door.
Naruto: Come in.
The door swings open, Hinata enters, Naruto stands up and walks over to her, he hugs her tightly, and kisses her forehead.
Hinata: Hokage-Sama, I am returning home, how long will you be?
*Naruto chuckles.*
Naruto: We have been through this, you don’t have to call me Hokage.
The two of them laugh.
Naruto: I have nearly finished the last of my paperwork, I have a few final preparations for the upcoming Chunin exams and I will be back home.
Hinata: Don’t be too long, you are working too hard lately, I will see you when you get back.
She kissed him on the cheek and exits, the door closes behind her. Naruto returns to his position, gazing up at the moon. He thinks of all the times Hinata has been there for him, the time she risked her own life against pain. The times she was there for him when he was trying to save Sasuke.
Flashback:
Naruto stands over Sasuke, he calls for help, as he does so he begins to faint, his eyes go heavy and he begins to stumble, he hears a loud voice calling his name, he recognises it as Hinata.
Hinata: NARUTO!
He wakes up in the Konoha hospital, bandaged up with a broken arm, he turns his head, to see Hinata sitting by his bedside.
Naruto: H..Hinata, Thank you.
*He passes out, still with a smile on his face, his hand in Hinata's.*
Flashback end:

The scene cuts to Hinata, she is walking down the streets, the last few villagers go inside, waving hello as she passes. She smiles back, deep in thought about her and Naruto & the moment they started dating.
Flashback:
Hinata is crouching over, panting heavily, her clothes ripped and her face covered in scratches, opposite her is a rogue Jonin from Konoha, he has a scratch through his headband.
???: Do you not get it, you cannot win, I will have my revenge, how can you call a truce with the other villages, after everything that has happened, my loved ones have died in vain.
Hinata: It was all for peace, they did not die in vain!
???: PEACE! What a joke! I will make you pay, then the whole village will suffer!
He charges at her, his katana facing towards her. Hinata falls to her knees, she is exhausted and cannot go on. A loud screech is heard, it is high pirched, she looks up to see naruto come crashing down, hitting the Jonin with a Rasen – Shuriken the size of his palm. The jonin falls to floor, close to death he passes out.
Naruto: Sorry I am late, Hinata, you almost died because of me.
Hinata: I... Its fine Naruto-Kun
Naruto: there is something I have been meaning to tell you.
*Naruto pauses.*
Naruto: I love you, Hinata.
Hinata: I love you too, Naruto-Kun….
Her words become slurred at stammered, she falls to the floor, fainting, partly from exhaustion, mainly from the shock. When she awakes she finds Naruto beside her, holding her hand, just as she did the time Naruto fought Sasuke.
Flashback Ends

Naruto is still sitting his office, checking over the lists of Genin for the Chunin exams, Shikamaru enters.
Shikamaru: I am done for the night Hokage – Sama, can I take my leave?
Naruto: Yeah, of course, I forgot you were still here! Please, go home! I have kept you from Temari long enough, any longer and she will kill me.
The two of them laugh.
Shikamaru: Might I suggest you do the same, Hinata is probably waiting and you look exhausted.
Naruto *laughing*: I will be off soon, goodnight Shikamaru.
Shikamaru: Goodnight Hokage – Sama
Shikamaru walks out of the office, down the stairs and out on to the now empty street. He looks up into the office and still sees Naruto working.
Shikamaru *thinking*: Wow he really has changed, it seems like he has finally matured from the annoying 13 year old constantly playing pranks.
*Shikamaru can’t help but grin, remembering back to their academy days*
Shikamaru *thinking*:I didn’t think he was serious when he asked for my help that time, looks like I was wrong.
Flashback:
Naruto: SHIKAMARU! SHIKAMARU!
*Shikamru turns round to see Naruto running towards him, he is still in his usual orange jumpsuit.*
Shikamaru: What is it Naruto, I am busy you know.
Naruto: Sorry Shikamaru, now the war is ended I need to ask a favour.
Shikamaru: *sigh* What is it?
Naruto: Well I still want to be Hokage, that hasn’t changed, but Kakashi – Sensei told me that I lacked discipline and intelligence. I need to be more focused and tactical. He recommended I see you.
*Shikamaru looks at him, he smiles.*
Shikamaru: Hmph, so you finally admitting you are an idoit?
Shikamaru's smile turns into a grin, it is evident he is enjoying teasing Naruto. Naruto frowns, holding back his anger, he is desperate for Shikamaru’s help.
Shikamaru: I suppose I can help you, I still owe you for ending the war and all, remember, this won’t be easy, it will be different from any Ninjutsu or Taijutsu training. But on one condition, you must refer to me as Sensei for an entire week starting from now.
Naruto bites his slip, his fists are clenched, he has a vein popping out the side of his head
Naruto: Thanks Shikamaru… Sensei.
Flashback ends.
Shikamaru: I guess he has earnt the title, Hokage.
Naruto: Come in.

Thanks for reading, I know this chapter is full of flashbacks and not much action but I thought it was important anyway. I made this chapter to clear up a bit of confusion about how Naruto became smart enough to become Hokage & how he and Hinata ended up becoming a couple. I just tried to show how Naruto realised she was always there for him.
Also it shows how Shikamaru and Naruto's relationship has changed and how they have become close friends and how Naruto has matured, realising what it takes to become Hokage, taking help despite having to humiliate himself.
