~Chapter Start~
There is a large group of young shinobi gathered in a large hall, they have travelled from many villages, the vast majority of them seem nervous, pondering what is about to come. They stand in their groups of three, mainly talking to their team mates although it is apparent that some groups have already developed bonds with others. A loud “THUD” is heard, the door swings open and the room is silent within seconds.
*Naruto bursts into the room, followed by the four other Kage, Bee is standing on a viewing platform above whispering to Kakashi and Sasuke.*
The 5 Kage line up, Naruto is in the middle, the Raikage and Mei are to his left, whilst Gaara and Onoki are on his right.
Naruto: Hi every…..
*Gaara nudges Naruto, reminding him of his role, out of the corner of Naruto’s eye he sees Kakashi with his face in his palm, letting out a sigh*
Naruto: Welcome young Shinobi, you have travelled a long way to Konoha to participate in these exams.
The young Shinobi look up at Naruto, amazed that they are in his presence, wondering if the stories they were told about him were true.
Naruto: As some of you are well aware, these exams were once used to show off each villages military strength, to try to intimidate other villages. However these exams have evolved, they are now designed to test, individual courage, strength and skill, to form new alliances and bonds. You are well aware of the war that recently took place….
The shinobi begin to chat amongst themselves, some are moved by the thought of their lost loved ones, some even seem angry. Gaara raises his hand, they all fall silent
Naruto *whispering*: Psst… Thanks.
Naruto: As I was saying, a war recently took place, the war was only one due to the alliance we formed between the villages, the co-operation between all of the shinobi from all of our villages. This is why we encourage friendship in these exams, to ensure this peace lasts. I would like to finish by saying good luck and thank you for participating, I will hand you over to Shikamaru who is co-ordinating the exams.
The 5 Kage walk out of the room and up the stairs into the same viewing booth that Kakashi is standing in.
Kakashi: Some things never change I suppose, Hokage – Sama.
Naruto: *heh* You know I don’t mind you all calling me by my name. I couldn’t help it, when I walked into the room it reminded me of my first Chunin exam, I thought I was a Genin again.
*Kakashi and Naruto laugh, even Sasuke lets out a small chuckle under his breath*
Sasuke *thinking*: I suppose it is quite nostalgic.
*The 5 Kage chat amongst themselves quietly, Shikamaru is heard over them*
Shikamaru: So that is the first test explained, the supervisors will be Temari and Hinata Hyuuga, although it is a competition, we encourage friendly behaviour and it will not be missed, you shall be rewarded.
*Suddenly Genin turn to each other and hug awkwardly, they have a large grin on their face, desperately trying to impress Shikamaru.*
Naruto: Ha, I didn’t mean to go that far.
Gaara: I think you will find a lot of them are just being sarcastic.
Shikamaru *thinking*: Some of these are annoying little brats, reminds me of Naruto when he was their age, ha.
Shikamaru: Let the Chunin exams, begin!
Shikamaru leaves the room, joining the rest of them on the platform, the Genin assemble into their squads and move to their allocated rooms. Temari and Hinata join them on the platform; they all have a friendly chat before the start of the first test.
*A few minutes pass*
Hinata: Well, we better get going, I suppose the teams will be ready to go, see you at home Naruto – Kun.
Naruto and Hinata hug.
Temari: See you soon, Shikamaru.
They share an awkward hug; Gaara’s presence does not make it any easier.

The scene cuts to Madara and Tobi, they are standing on a hill not far from Konoha, overlooking the village.
Madara: Looks like we are finally here, when shall we move in?
Tobi: Let us wait until nightfall; let them get the first test done.
Madara: Sounds like a good plan, hmph, let me go for that young Uchiha, Sasuke I think his name was, if I can take him out that will severely weaken their forces for when Yokichi attacks.
Tobi: Okay, I think I will go for the Kyuubi brat, I have unfinished business.
Madara: You don’t really think you can beat him do you, I think it would require both of us to take him out now, with us in our weakened state.
Tobi: No, I am going to hit him where it hurts, his loved one, let’s see how angry he can get, then see how the villagers admire him.
Madara: Hmph, good luck, he will do everything to protect that girl, let’s just see how far we can push them. You always were the deviant one.
*The two of them let out a menacing laugh, excited about what is to come*
Tobi: Well, as much as I would love to reminisce, especially seeing as that time has come, I think we should gather up some chakra and make a few last preparations.
Madara: If you say so.
*The two of them sit down on top of the hill, there legs crossed and eyes closed, resting, gathering chakra*

The scene changes back to Konoha, the exams are nearly finished, Sakura and Tsunade have gathered with the rest of the medical team, healing the injured Genin.
Hinata: It is time for the last 5 squads to enter the arena, as you already know this is not an easy task, many have failed already.
Temari: I will explain it to you one last time. You will all be trapped in a powerful mind control Genjutsu, this will make you attack each other, not just your own team mates, but the other squads as well. If any of you injure anyone, then your team will be disqualified, it will be your job to try and break free of this Genjutsu, and then assist your teammates if they have difficulty.
*The squads enter the arena, there is a large crowd of Sensei’s and fellow competitors watching, all cheering on their friends*
Hinata: Begin!
Suddenly, the majority of the competing Shinobi twitch, caught in the Jutsu, however, some of them manage to avoid being trapped in the first place. The ones under Genjutsu all charge at one another, Kunai out, trying to slash the others.
Teammates try to stop their comrades from injuring anyone, however one young shinobi slashes his comrade, drawing blood.
Temari: Squad 2, you are disqualified!
The whole of his squad snap out of the Genjutsu. They all apologise to one another and leave the arena, their heads bowed.
A large cheer is heard from the audience, clapping off their failed competitors. Many of them know the pain they felt when they failed just a few moments ago.
More and more Shinobi snap out of the Genjutsu, some using their own will and determination, other with their teammates assistance, one squad all completely free from the Genjutsu remain, trying to free other squads as well.
Naruto: Interesting, it looks as though some are actually helping each other out, I didn’t expect that kind of behaviour this early on.
*Naruto stands up and applauds this act of bravery, the rest of the crowd follow.*
A few minutes pass.
Hinata: That is the end of the first test, only 2 out of the 5 squads managed to make it through this group. Commiserations to all those who failed, but congratulations to those who passed. Those who made it through, the next test will take place in just a few days’ time I suggest you all prepare.
A few hours later.
Naruto is waiting outside the test hall for Hinata, he turns to see Sasuke and Sakura walking away from them, heading towards Ichiraku Ramen. It is almost night fall…
