Not really, if he ends up healing him eventually it would still be a slower healing process than Sakura with her remote healing feats and all its quick.

Maintaining =/= restarting or giving more.

Naruto hasn't maintained anything. That life force will go out if Gai is not healed. On top of that immense pain that will follow when Gai comes back to life..

Giving life force = only relevant if he heals otherwise you are wasting your time.
