When Itachi was reanimated, he didn't really know what to expect with the current World, and believed Sasuke and Naruto would have (or had) crossed paths, and Sasuke would have been brainwashed by Shisui's eye to protect the leaf. Upon meeting Naruto & Bee, he got the information first hand and was surprised his plan did not come into fruition.

Upon Naruto revealing to Itachi that Obito did fact know everything about him and exposed that knowledge to Sasuke, Kakashi, Yamato and Naruto himself. Itachi was left at a crossroads of astonishment and how to deal with it.
With bondage still held tight to the living World Itachi did not know how to counteract anymore, he relied and trusted Naruto with the well being of Sasuke, giving him gratefulness & boldness to do the right thing and giving him intention not to bear it all on himself.

Using the "power" he entrusted Naruto with, Itachi broke himself free of Edo Tensi, prepared to accomplish the goal he set out of stopping Edo through redemption.

Encountering Sasuke, and having no proper way of giving him the answers he wants, Itachi holds tight to Naruto's promise.

Finding Kabuto, and facing him head on, Itachi took the task of bringing him to light with Izanami. Kabuto reminded Itachi of himself, and encountering Kabuto was like facing the person he use to be, arrogant and wrapped in lies, vicariously, stopping Kabuto was like stopping his former self. Itachi expresses that.

Trying to impart wise words to Kabuto, Itachi speaks on the importance of comrades and thinks of Naruto in his speech, he considers himself and Naruto friends at this point, and is at ease knowing Naruto will help carry the burden with Sasuke that he tried to.

Through the release of Edo, Itachi found the courage to tell Sasuke the truth, sick of lying, he wanted to wipe the slate clean and tell Sasuke how he really felt. It was through meeting Naruto, and getting proper resolve that inspired him to do so.

Naruto eliminated one of Itachi's main concerns which was Sasuke, Itachi left the World not worrying about him anymore, having the resolve to go on knowing Naruto would take care of it. That indeed gave him peace.

I agree for the most part. But I just wanted to say...

-KA allows you to be the exact same except with a different goal. That's not exactly brainwashing (it is but not to an extreme degree). The KA was to insure both Sasuke's and the Leaf's safety. Konoha wouldn't be destroyed (or rather, Sasuke wouldn't be killed for attempting to destroy it- he couldn't handle Naruto, Kakashi, and the other shinobi at the time he wanted to burn it down), Sasuke would be applauded and have Naruto to vouch for him, etc. Sasuke being KA'd would be like he is now- wanting to go back and live in the Leaf and benefit the world by changing the shinobi system. KA was a good solution (which is why Naruto/Bee asked that Itachi didn't use it before)- it's only downside is that Sasuke himself would not be making the right choice.

-Itachi's surprise stemmed from the fact that he initially thought that Sasuke didn't know the truth and decided not to go back to the only place he could- which makes no sense. Then, he was informed that it was because Obito knew the truth, so then Itachi became calm and had even anticipated that Sasuke would want revenge if he ever found out and thus set up KA when alive.

-Naruto did give Itachi some peace of mind, however, it's still likely that Itachi would come clean and tell Sasuke the truth anyway. Itachi will always love his little bro no matter what he decides, something he stated before departing & he accepts him for what he is. He'd get that closure either way. As for departing peacefully- he left with a smile, but he still probably worried deep down where Sasuke would end up and about the people in Konoha, but since Naruto offered to help, then yes. He did feel better. Just like Nagato, Kakashi, Obito, Jiraiya, Minato, Sakura, Gaara, Neji, and numerous others felt better when Naruto offered to take up their burdens as well.
