On a shonen standpoint he hasn't really had nay handouts. Naruto suffered greatly because Kurama was sealed in him. He never gave up on his dream, and worked hard so it's only natural that one day he could use his tailed beasts power.

But if you wanna be technical about it, yes Naruto does get handouts as there is literal dialogue of Naruto asking for Kurama's chakra, as Kurama's power isn't his own.
