This fanfiction is following the storyline of the Naruto manga and it's mainly about what would have happened if Sasuke and Danzo never fought after the Kage Summit, and Danzo returned to Konoha. This fanfiction is going to be a full arc that I'm squeezing in between the Kage Summit arc and Confining the Jinchuuriki Arc. I'm dividing it into chapters, and I'll post each new chapter on this thread (I will post it as a reply and also edit the original post to include the new chapters.)

Chapter 01: The Kazekage's Letter

The door opened, letting a crack of sunlight shine into the otherwise dark room. Torches on the walls dimly lit the interior room, which was bare except for a table with nine seats. On the left side of the table were seated four feudal lords; and on the right side two men and one woman sat. The woman and one of the men was very old, and the other man looked like he was in his fifties, and wore the standard green flak jacket of Konoha jonin. At the head of the table was seated a bored looking older woman in an official uniform fanning herself in the stifling room.

When the door opened, a hush descended on the table and a solitary figure walked in; it was obvious they had just been talking about him. He paid them no mind, and seated himself at the near end of the table, directly opposite of the woman fanning herself. He leaned his walking cane against the table and sat down. He had a strong figure despite his old age, and scars of battle were distinct: a double scar shaped like an "X" was on his chin; the whole right side of his face was bandaged. His right arm was in a sling and wasn't visible since it was hidden within his shirt.

The woman at the end of the table stopped fanning herself and looked at Danzo Shimura with interest.

"I was summoned here?" implored Danzo, with an air of someone demanding an explanation.

"Yes," she said. "Danzo, I was informed of the events which took place in the Land of Iron at the Kage Summit. The Kazekage sent a hawk addressed to me which includes a lengthy description of what happened. You omitted many details when you recounted your version of events. Is there anything you would like to say?"

"No," said Danzo quietly. "Please read."

She took out a scroll which she unsealed and unraveled. "To the Feudal Lord of the Land of Fire. This letter is to inform you of events which occurred during the kage summit between the five great nations of wind, water, fire, lightning, and earth. You may be surprised to be receiving such a letter from the kage of a foreign nation, but I thought it prudent to inform you in case the acting Sixth Hokage, Danzo Shimura, does not give you an accurate description of what happened at the meeting. The following events took place, in chronological order: the Samurai Mifune (our mediator) called the summit to order, and a discussion ensued: a discussion on how to handle the growing threat of the international organization Akatsuki, and why they were hunting the tailed beasts of all the nations. The discussion took a turn for the worse and there was a tense moment in which all the kages' bodyguards emerged and were about to engage in combat; however once it was evident there was no apparent danger the bodyguards fell back and we resumed our discussion. The kage of the great nations came to a conclusion that we must form an alliance to combat the Akatsuki, and we decided it was up to our mediator Mifune to choose which kage was to lead the alliance. Mifune picked the Hokage."

She glanced up at Danzo, who did not blink an eye.

"Thank goodness, the Mizukage had a bodyguard with a sensory ability. The Hidden Mist shinboi, the Mizukage's bodyguard named Ao, used his dojutsu to see that Danzo was using an ocular genjutsu to control Mifune and make him pick Danzo as the leader; specifically, the genjutsu of Uchiha Shisui: Kotoamatsukami. This was a breach of international law and policy and it became apparent that the Hokage was not to be trusted. Before we could decide what to do, our meeting was interrupted by the sudden appearance of an Akatsuki member (a white man who did not seem human) who emerged from the floor and announced that Sasuke Uchiha had infiltrated the Land of Iron and was heading for the Summit room. The Raikage quickly rushed to the center of the room and killed the Akatsuki, before we could extract intel from him. He rushed downstairs along with his bodyguards, telling us that he would kill Sasuke himself. He seemed enraged at the Uchiha, probably because Sasuke was the one who supposedly killed his brother and jinchuuriki, Killer Bee."

Danzo's face remained impassive.

"After several minutes, I along with my bodyguards went downstairs to provide assistance to the Raikage and I came face-to-face with Sasuke Uchiha. After unsuccessfully attempting to convince him to stand down, I along with my bodyguards and a jonin from Kumo launched a ninjutsu assault on Sasuke - I will not go into details since you are a feudal lord and most likely not interested in ninja battles, but Sasuke defended against the attacks and cut the pillars of the building - causing the roof to cave in, and in this moment of confusion Sasuke made a break and escaped. We all headed towards the summit room since we speculated that Sasuke was headed there, but by the time we got there the Tsuchikage declared that he had killed Sasuke. There were also signs of battle throughout the room. Danzo was nowhere to be seen. Later, the mizukage told me that Danzo and his bodyguards had fled the room in the moment of confusion when Sasuke had arrived. She told me that her bodyguard Ao tailed them for a while, and almost lost his life because Danzo laid a trap for him en route. Had she not been there to rescue Ao just in time, a Mist shinobi would have died at the hands of the hokage - a very close call, since the death of even one foreigner can lead to war. It was extremely reckless of Danzo to attempt to kill this man, without foreseeing the consequences. Back at the kage summit, an Akatsuki member appeared out of thin air (possibly through the use of a special ninjutsu) and identified himself as Madara Uchiha. He had an unconscious Sasuke on his shoulder so it seems the tsuchikage was mistaken in believing he had killed Sasuke. He announced to us his plans of Project Tsuki no Me, a plan which uses the chakra of the tailed beasts to cast a genjutsu over the entire world. He informed us that he had captured all the tailed beasts and only needed the eight and nine tails to complete his plan. He demanded that we hand over the reamaining tailed beasts, and threatened us with the alternative of a war. The tsuchikage, raikage, and the mizukage, along with myself, decided that this project was unacceptable - and we agreed that an alliance between our nations was to be formed in order to combat this threat. Mifune appointed the Raikage as head of this new alliance. However, there is a problem: because of Danzo's corrupt and inexcusable actions, we deemed him untrustworthy and will not accept Konoha into this alliance until he is replaced with a more suitable hokage candidate. It is for this reason that I am writing to you, the feudal lord of the land of fire, in order to advise that you immediately remove Danzo from his position as hokage so that Konoha may become part of the alliance as well. Remember, it is absolutely essential that all five great nations unite for this war - since the Akatsuki's Project Tsuki no Me quite literally spells the end of the world and we will need all the manpower availible. I have also sent a letter to Danzo to inform him of the events which took place after he fled the kage summit, and personally advised him to step down from his position. Signed Gaara, Kazekage."

There was a long silence. "What do you have to say in your defense, Danzo?" The man in the green flak jacket seemed especially angry, like he was trying not to shout out accusations.

Danzo began slowly. "As the hokage, it is my responsibility to ensure that Konoha and the Fire Country remain above the other great nations to ensure our security and position in the ninja world. I cast that genjutsu on Mifune in order to ensure that I became leader of the international alliance - and by extension, Konoha would be in control of the other great nations. I see no wrong in what I did."

The man in the green flak jacket spoke up. "A very old and outdated way of thinking. Clearly the Akatsuki is a global issue and for wartime necessity we should look beyond our rivalries with other countries in order to stop the Akatsuki and Madara Uchiha. Hiruzen would have looked at the bigger picture-"

A flicker of annoyance crossed Danzo's face. "The Third Hokage was ignorant of the realities of this ninja world, and was far too optimistic in his way of thinking. What's more, Shikaku Nara," he continued, "is that the young and inexperienced Kazekage omitted the fact that this Mist ninja, Ao, posessed the Byakugan: a spoiler of war with the Hyuga. My assistant simply attempted to remove the eye, but could not since it was protected by a seal. This led him to attempt to kill the Mist jonin in order to keep the Byakugan only as part of the Leaf Village."

The old lady sitting next to Shikaku seemed shocked. "The Mist has a Byakugan in their possession? This is a threat to Konoha security." The man next to her nodded. "I agree with Koharu. You did the right thing by attempting to eliminate this threat. It's dissapointing that your assistant failed."

The woman at the end of the table hesitated, very briefly - in this moment she seemed to lose her composure, but she quickly regained it. She started fanning herself again. "As a feudal lord, I don't even have much interest in war and I could care less about the alliance. I don't see why we should feel the need to join this shinobi alliance. It will simply mean more lost lives and money. We don't need another costly war. Besides, we don't have another suitable shinobi to replace Danzo as hokage and satisfy the Kazekage's demand."

Shikaku Nara stood up in his seat and almost shouted. "If four of the great nations form an alliance and win this war, who will they target next? Think! We would be vulnerable to attack from all sides, there is no hope for us to be able to defend ourselves! Especially since the village was already destroyed by Pein and we are vulnerable as it is!"

He is definitely the most troublesome one here. I should have used it one him, Danzo thought to himself. "If the alliance wins the war, they will most definitely be already weakened by waging war on Akatsuki. They are no threat to us. The best course of action is to stand by in this war and continue rebuilding our village and making profits by having our ninja carry out missions."

Shikaku Nara looked like he was about to say something again, but the feudal lord interrupted. "I have come to a decision. Danzo will remain hokage and we will not participate in this war. Danzo has already made clear why this is the best course of action. Do I have any complaints from the other Land of Fire representatives? They shook their heads. Well, it is decided. I will reply to the Kazekage shortly. Meeting is adjourned!"

That was close, thought Danzo. If I hadn't resorted to controlling the feudal lord's thoughts I might have been replaced by Kakashi or someone else. I must take precautions to not let this sort of thing become public again.

The assembly stood up and they all meandered out of the room, talking amongst themselves. Danzo was the first to leave.

Hobbling along on his cane, Danzo reached the entrance where his assistants were waiting for him. "Lord Danzo," began one of them. "A message from Sai." He extended his hand, upon which was perched a little black bird made of ink. "Open it, Fu," Danzo replied. The other assistant held out a piece of paper, which the bird jumped onto and burst into an ink splatter. The splotches rearranged themselves to form characters. Danzo took the paper and read the message.

"The nine tails will flee the village...?" Danzo read with interest. A smile played on his lips. "It seems like the Kyubi's jinchuuriki thinks he is headed somewhere. What a shame...he is certainly not leaving this village."

I will read soon... also try to just make a new thread for New Chapters because it's more practical that way and you will raise more awareness on your story. BTW Check out the FanFics in the FanFic of the month Contest to see some good examples.... I am in it BTW.

The watering can sat empty next to her flowers, a tangle of thick green vines beside the trellis and a plot of roses on the windowsill, narrow stems with thorns elegantly protruding up to the top, where the bud blossomed in a brilliant conclusion of red petals. The window itself was, unusually, shut tightly, with the flower patterned curtains drawn behind the clear-glass windowpane.
On the other side of the window, a space was cleared and the furniture pushed against the walls. A coffee table occupied the center of the room, but there was no coffee. On it sat an assortment of papers and books and weapons; several kunai knives; a scratched and worn forehead protector with the emblem of Konoha; a large open scroll, on it a complex-looking seal written in ink; an open Bingo book; a printed map of Konoha and on top of it another hand-drawn map of Konoha, but should one look at the two maps they had very different city layouts and infrastructures. Tacks were stuck in to certain points of the hand drawn map and a particular building was circled in thick red ink. Two messenger hawks pecked at each other on the counter, occasionally fluttering their wings with impatience. Several jonin were gathered in the room, some looking nervous while others seemed relaxed. The dim lighting in the main room of Kurenai Yuhi's apartment gave off an air of tension - in stark contrast to Kakashi Hatake, who was currently flipping through an Icha Icha novel while sitting cross-legged on a green couch. The hostess was sitting opposite him, her hands clasped in worry and a red dress covering her swollen belly. "Are you sure that will work, Sai?" There was a barely noticeable glance from Kakashi directed at the person who Kurenai had addressed.

"Of course." Sai gave a smile. He was sitting on a wood chair. "I may not look it, but I specialize in seals and barrier ninjutsu."

She relaxed slightly. "Well, good. We wouldn't want any of Danzo's dogs detecting us." Kakashi resumed reading. He had read this one before, so he knew exactly what happened. There hadn't been any new releases for several months, not since Jiraiya's death. He wasn't paying much attention to the book at all, rather his focus remained on Sai.

"I may sound ironic saying this, but it was a good thing you resigned when you did, Kurenai," spoke Yamato, standing at the end of the table and surveying the map. "All the jonin in this village are having their houses monitered at the moment, and you are one of the few we can trust with a safe house."

Kurenai smiled. "Well, I have you to thank for this place anyway, Yamato-san. You did build it yourself, after all."

Yamato looked pleased. "I constructed most of the buildings in this district, although I can only build about twenty homes a day. I never imagined that I would use my Mokuton for purposes other than battle, honestly. Although I can't claim perfection, since I accidentally built Iruka's apartment without a bathroom." He gave a laugh. "I have to really put some more thought into the design!"

Kakashi addressed Sakura. "How is Lady Tsunade's condition?"

Sakura's face dimmed as she answered. "She is under Shizune's constant supervision but shows no signs of recovery. She completely exhausted herself by exerting all her chakra into healing the people of the village through Katsuyu."

Three quick knocks at the door followed by two slower knocks interrupted their conversation. "He must be here," spoke Kurenai. She stood up and walked down the hallway to answer the door. Sighing, Kakashi put away his book and sat up. "It's unusual that he was late, usually that's me." Sai smiled. "As a member of Team 7 I can say that's true."

A very attractive redheaded lady marched in the room, followed by Kurenai whos swiftly closed the door behind her and sealed the door. Following Kurenai was a little girl. Not even bothering with hellos or pleasantries, the woman addressed Kakashi in a loud demanding voice. "Sensei, is it true that all the great nations have entered into alliance with each other except Konoha? And that power-hungry jerk named Danzo that we call our Hokage tried to control someone with genjutsu, and that got in a fight, and Sasuke went after him-"

"Naruto you idiot," complained the little girl, looking embarassed. "You can undo the transformation jutsu now! You were supposed to transform into someone who wouldn't draw attention, instead you turn yourself into a big-breasted lady that everyone will stare at!" She addressed the room. "I tried to get him to pick an old man, but no, he decided on the Sexy Jutsu."

Kakashi sighed again. "You two, stop fighting. Sakura, you can undo your transformation too." In two puffs of smoke, the attractive lady and the little girl were replaced by Naruto Uzumaki and Sakura Haruno. "Anyway, to answer your question Naruto, the other countries have entered into alliance. And that puts tremendous pressure on Konoha, since we have no strong allies at the moment. Konoha was initially going to be included, but they lost Danzo's trust after he tried to control their mediator with genjutsu."

Naruto put on a serious face, straightened up, and spoke quietly. "Sensei, is it true that Sasuke attacked Danzo and tried to kill him?"

Kakashi didn't speak for a moment. Everyone's eyes were trained on Naruto, and the room was suddenly quiet. "Yes," he replied making direct eye contact with Naruto.

Naruto didn't bat an eye. "I understand him," he said quietly. Sakura's eyes widened. "You do, Naruto?" she voiced her wonder.

"Yeah," he responded. "If I was in his poisition and I knew what he knew..." he trailed off. The room remained quiet for a few seconds. Sai broke the silence. "Lord Danzo assigns each of us Foundation members bingo books" He picked up the slim black volume. "Sasuke was just recently added." Naruto turned his head sharply. "Sai, let me see that." Sai flipped to the end page and gave it to Naruto, who scanned the page with his eyes. In the upper right hand corner was a photograph of Sasuke carrying a man over his shoulder. He was not looking at the camera, but Naruto could see his profile. He was surrounded by three other people, two men and a woman.

"Sasuke Uchiha. Seventeen years old, male. Rogue ninja from Konohagakure, left his village of birth three years ago to join Orochimaru, the ex-Sannin and another rogue ninja from Konoha. A retrieval team consisting of a Chunin and three genin was dispatched to defeat his escorts and bring him back to the village, but they were unable to bring him back. Sasuke is known as the only remaining survivor of the Uchiha Clan incident fifteen years ago, in which his older brother Itachi Uchiha slaughtered his entire clan except Sasuke and then left the village to join the terorrist organization Akatsuki. Recent history of Sasuke Uchiha begins with his killing his former master Orochimaru several weeks ago and seeking his older brother Itachi. During his travels searching for Itachi, he got in a skirmish with the S-ranked Akatsuki member Deidara, originally a Jonin from the Hidden Stone. The battle ended with a giant explosion which killed the Akatsuki member, yet somehow Sasuke escaped. Soon after, Sasuke fought and killed Itachi, a fact confirmed by Madara Uchiha in a confrontation with a platoon from Konoha. Soon after, he attacked Killer Bee, the Hidden Cloud's jinchuuriki of the Hachibi. He was seen wearing Akatsuki robes during the fight, signifying that he joined the organization. At the Second Kage Summit, Sasuke and his team showed up and crashed the summit, attacking everyone who showed resistance. His ultimate goal seemed to be to kill the Hokage, however those reasons are unknown."

Naruto clenched his fist. He continued on to the section labeled "Abilities".

"Being from the Uchiha Clan, Sasuke Uchiha has the dojutsu of the sharingan, an eye which can track movements and allow the user to accurately predict movements and react to them accordingly. He has lightning and fire element affinities. Within the past month, Sasuke awakened the Mangekyou Sharingan, a higher level of dojutsu. This new sharingan gives him additional abilities including Amaterasu and manipulation of the black flames which cannot be extinguished. He also has displayed the Susano'o, a chakra avatar which takes the shape of a spirit warrior which manifests itself around Sasuke, and can be used for powerful offense as well as absolute defense."

"He's gotten strong," Naruto said quietly. "Maybe even stronger than me." It's only a matter of time before he comes after Danzo again, Naruto thought to himself. And Danzo is now in the Leaf Village. Sasuke will come to Konoha and attack it just like Pain did...and I might have to stop him just like last time...

"Unfortunately, we can't worry about Sasuke just yet," spoke Yamato. "Danzo is still Hokage, which is bad. As long as he remains in that position, Konoha can't enter the alliance with the other great nations. Our goal is to oust him from power and reinstate a new hokage, and our best candidate for that position at the moment is probably Kakashi-san, who has the necessary experience and qualifications of the job. We have one advantage over Danzo, though."

Naruto looked at him curiously. "What is it, Captain Yamato?"

Kakashi smiled. Yamato spoke. "It's you, Naruto. As the village hero, you are universally more respected right now than Danzo is. Whatever side you support, is the side the rest of the village will support to. You control public opinion at the moment. If the village doesn't approve of Danzo, there is no way he can remain hokage."

Kurenai broke in. "So you're saying we can solve this diplomatically?"

"No, unfortunately that's probably not possible," Kakashi said. "Danzo used an unusual genjutsu to control the man named Mifune, the mediator at the Kage Summit. It almost seemed like a form of Mind Transfer. There's nothing stopping him from using the same genjutsu to control you and speak his mind through you. That is why, as you know Naruto, you cannot let yourself be seen by Danzo. If you have to meet him, use a shadow clone. You can't keep living like that forever, you have your own job to do anyway: go to an island and meet an octopus, as the Elder Toad Sages said. You need to train to master the Kyubi's chakra. The hidden Cloud's jinchuuriki will train you."

"I'm sorry but I can't do that, Kakashi sensei."

"Why not, Naruto!?" Sakura cried out. "If you get controlled by Danzo, it's over!"

Naruto's jaw hardened. "I have to be here for when Sasuke shows up. I don't trust Danzo to defend the village from him. If Sasuke comes here, he will kill every person who stands between him and Danzo. I can't let that happen to my village again."

Sai was looking at Naruto, this whole time, with a curious look. He seemed to be taking mental notes of what Naruto was saying. Kakashi noticed it, too. "What do you think, Sai?" Everyone in the room seemed to be surprised that Kakashi asked for his opinion.

Sai kept his face impassive. "I think it should be up to Naruto where he goes. None of us here can deny it; Naruto's the only one left in this village strong enough to take down Sasuke." He pointed at the red circle on the map. "I cannot give any of you information regarding Danzo because of the seal on my tongue. But this is the Foundation Headquarters, circled on this map. It escaped destruction from Pain since it is deep underground. This is where Danzo will be hiding when Sasuke attacks. If possible, we can lead Sasuke to this location and get him to kill Danzo for us. And we can lay a trap there for Sasuke, killing two birds with one stone."

Kakashi looked at Sai hardly. "That sets up Naruto to be controlled by Danzo. He cannot live in hiding in his own village, and we don't even know if he can beat Sasuke yet. That's why he needs to go to the island and train, to master the Kyubi's chakra. Danzo isn't that strong, we can deal with him. Most jonin don't approve of him as hokage, and I'm certain no one in the Leaf Village enjoys the ANBU everywhere surveying people and making them feel unsafe. We have the Akimichi, Yamanaka, Nara, Inuzuka, Aburame, and Hyuga clans on our side already. If we can just organize the movement, we have a sure shot at taking down Danzo. If we kill him before Sasuke does, Sasuke won't even attack the village at all." Kakashi looked around. "Naruto, surely you know that the best course of action is to attend to your own responsibilities and train to get stronger."

Naruto didn't budge. "I stand by my decision to stay in this village."

Kakashi sighed, then looked around the room. Sakura's eyes were widened, like she was worried. Kurenai looked deep in thought. It must be tough for her to deal with this all on her own, without Asuma. Sai's face was unreadable as usual. Yamato looked helpless. At last Kakashi spoke up. "Well, I can't stop you Naruto. I have no authority to do so nor am I strong enough to force you. I regard you as an equal now, not just a student. Your decision could be better than mine. If you choose to remain in the village, so be it." Naruto visibly relaxed. The tension in the room went down a few notches. "Thank you, Kakashi sensei."

"So," said Kurenai. "Why don't we focus on how we are going to organize a movement to oust Danzo from power? We want to get the clans involved."

"I agree," said Kakashi. "The first ones we want on our side should probably be the Yamanaka Clan. Through their Hidden ninjutsu they can communicate with other people directly through their minds. This way things will be much easier to organize." He weaved a hand seal. "Summoning jutsu!"

In a puff of smoke on the table, Pakkun appeared. "How ya doing, Kakashi?" the ninja dog asked. Kakashi responded. "I'm doing fine right now Pakkun, but the village isn't. I have a mission for you. I need you to deliver a message to Inoichi Yamanaka'a daughter. Sakura, did you bring me what I asked?"

Sakura reached into her pocket. "Yes!" she took out Ino's hairtie. "This has her scent on it." Pakkun sniffed the hairtie for a couple seconds. "Got it," he said, and trotted towards the door, followed by Kurenai who cracked the door to let him out.

Kakashi took out a bundle of letters tied together with a rubber band from the inside pocket of his flak jacket. "The envelopes on these letters are sealed by a sealing jutsu written by Sai here. Only the people to whom these letters are addressed can read the letter, otherwise it appears a blank piece of paper."

Naruto grinned. "That's a smart idea, Sai!"

Kakashi walked over to the messenger hawks perched on the counter, and died various letters to their legs. "Give these to the respective heads of the Akimichi, Nara, Yamanaka, Aburame, Hyuga, and Inuzuka clans. One each," Kakashi instructed. He opened the window as the birds fluttered their wings and flew out the window. Kakashi quickly closed the window and shut the curtains.

"What's more, we need to inform every potential ally about this coup. Naruto, use the summoning jutsu, but I just need a small toad."

Naruto's eyes widened. "Ah - you mean..." He quickly wove a hand seal. "Summoning jutsu!" In a puff of white smoke, a small red frog with green spots appeared on the table. "Yo, Naruto-san!"

Naruto looked confused. "Uh...do I know you?"

The little frog's eyes beamed with pleasure. "You do now, Naruto-san! I'm Kosuke of Myobokuzan! I may be small but I get the job done!"

Naruto emitted an awkward laugh. "Yeah, hm, okay Koko, I need you to deliver this message to the elder toad Fukusaku. It's very important! Do you understand your mission?"

The red frog saluted as Kakashi handed him a letter. "Yes sir!" He vanished with a puff as quickly as he had come. Kakashi cleared his throat. "Naruto, Sakura, Sai. I have news to tell you. As a team, we will be receiving a mission tomorrow from the elders of Konoha, Homura and Koharu. "

Naruto and Sakura looked at him in surprise. "What kind of mission do they want to give us?" Kakashi looked at Sai. "That's actually what I was wondering myself. Sai, I am sure Danzo informed you ahead of time the objective of the mission. Would you care to partake any of this information to us? The elders are basically Danzo's puppets at this point, so I know they wouldn't assign us a mission unless Danzo himself said to."

Sai spoke in a neutral tone. "I cannot say. The seal Lord Danzo placed on my tongue prevents me from divulging any information that Danzo has given to me about this mission. You three will see for yourselves tomorrow."

Naruto gave him an annoyed look. "Sai, come on you can surely give us something! Don't be stubborn! If you no longer work for Danzo then you have to show it!"

Sai's expression did not change. "I cannot say. This is beyond my control." Kakashi sighed. "Naruto, give it a rest. We'll find out tomorrow. Meet outside the Hokage mansion at noon tomorrow. The reason for this mission is undoubtfully to keep us busy so we can't spend time planning a coup-"

"And because of that, we'll have to do an extra-good job extra-quickly!" Naruto interrupted, smiling. "No problem!"

"Yes," Kakashi continued. "Be on guard though, you three. You are dismissed. The jonin will stay here for a little bit to continue to discuss the plan of attack. No Naruto, you three can't join right now, go do something on your off night!"

With Naruto grumbling, the three went through the door which Kurenai closed and locked behind them. After transforming themselves, they descended the wooden stairs and walked out onto the mostly empty street bordered by fences.

"Why does Kakashi-sensei think he's in charge, acting like we have no say," complained Naruto. "It's not like we're kids anymore."

"It's because you can't contribute anything, idiot!" Sakura retorted. "They're going to discuss foreign relations, funding, that sort of boring stuff! Only the jonin would can do that, you would only slow them down!" Naruto continued to gripe. "Don't call me dumb, you know I'm not stupid Sakura-chan-"

"Naruto! Sakura!" Sai shouted a few feet away. They turned their heads. "Look at this!" He was pointing to a poster on the fence. Confused, they approached until they could make out the title of the poster. There was a large picture of Tsunade. Despite looking strong and ferocious in the picture, Sakura could see the kindness in her eyes. 'WANTED,' it read, 'FOR ABUSE OF GOVERNMENT FUNDS AND TREASON TO THE HIDDEN LEAF. 60,000 RYU REWARD.'

.............

Four miles outside Konoha's city walls lived an old man who farmed rice for a living, who lived with his wife on a small farm with a series of rice paddies and a barn where they kept their livestock. On Sundays they sold their rice twelve ryu a bag at a farmer's market in Konoha. But today was Sunday, and they were not there to sell their crop. Instead, they were both lain on the ground of the barn, their hands tied together with snakes and both clearly knocked unconscious. A cloaked man stood over them.

Kabuto Yakushi smiled, then released the white snake out from under his sleeve. It slithered over to the woman, and bit her neck. Poison seeped through her bloodstream. Within seconds, the venom had reached her heart and stopped the pumping. Within a minute she was dead. Scraping a bit of her blood onto a scroll with a seal, he placed the scroll on the ground and weaved a handseal. A complex seal emerged on the ground, encircling the two bodies, one living and one dead.

A scream emitted from the man as his soul was sucked out of him and ashes covered him head to toe, taking shape, eventually forming to resemble a human figure that looked exactly like the woman. The only difference was in the eyes, which were dull and black.

Kabuto scrutinized her carefully, then walked over holding a sealing tag attached to the kunai, then slipped it into her head. "Edo Tensei no jutsu," he said quietly. Her pupils lit up and became white. She stood up alert, to attention, awaiting the command of her master.

A hint of a smile played on Kabuto's lips. "I'll send you into the village to check things out for me." Clumsily stumbling at first, then starting to walk in a coordinated movement, the dead woman walked out of the barn and down the dirt road which headed to the Hidden Leaf Village.
