Chapter 6:
Sasuke watched Tsubasa stumble back in shock and rage. He was angry too. This person was young, but gave off an unworldly aura of experience that surpassed his ten fold. And merely looking at him gave him a throbbing migraine and sinus headache so painful he slapped his hand against his left ear.
"What are you doing here?!" Tsubasa demanded. "You're--"
"Supposed to be dead." Kakashi finished. Sasuke thought his tone was strange. A low growl with a hint of bloodlust did not suit this aloof face-mask wearing weirdo.
"It's good to see you too, Kakashi-kun." The red head greeted him with a low bow as he stepped out.
"Now it all makes sense." Kakashi spat. "Out with it, Seto. Where's Naruto?"
"Why do you care so much about that little half-blood?" Seto was so close to Kakashi, and towered over him like a cliff. "Is it for the lout, Minato? Or the traitor, Kushina? Or maybe you feel this is your duty, as a konoha shinobi? To drag the half-blood jinchuuriki back by force if you must?"
Sasuke's blood was boiling. He could tell from their expressions the others were equally furious.
Alone, it sounded like a joke. But he spoke the term half blood the way some spoke the word insect. Or thing. Sasuke had heard it before, being whispered behind the hands of gossiping Uchiha elders, but it was never used as an insult. Just a term.
And that one word explained it all. This person considered Naruto an eyesore that needed to be disposed of.
A few years ago, Sasuke would have agreed.
But things had changed. He was a different person now.
"It is because he is precious to us." Kakashi answered. "And we of Konoha care about him more than you ever would."
"Oh you're wrong about that." Seto argued. "We Uzumaki adore him, too. The children, his young adult cousins, a few of the less territorial veterans. However he has proven himself to be more trouble than he's worth. I was actually quite happy to--"
"Stop lying." Sasuke ordered. "Where is he?"
Seto flashed murderous eyes his way, sending him into a hallucination, or a memory.
He was somewhere underground, looking at Naruto through Seto's eyes.
Naruto did not look well. He was barely concious, and sitting on his knees, slumped over with lightless, emotionless eyes. Like a zombie, or a vegetable.
"He doesn't say much does he?" Seto asked.
Another man, who looked as young as Seto but not as exerienced, placed a hand on Naruto's shoulder. He looked so haunted, so tormented.
"He has horrible amnesia." The man said, making Sasuke flinch. "It's been getting better. But he still not move or say much, excerpt when he's in pain."
Sasuke could hear Seto's thoughts: THIS BOY IS KUSHINA'S SON? AN AMNESIAC JINCHUURIKI... COULD BE USEFUL.
Flashes of memories passed by, and Naruto got better. At one point he was exhausted, the next he was hanging around someone called Tsuna and playing with some little kids who called him Aniki. He trained with the other man, who had introduced him to Seto, and became a fuinjutsu master. But the older ones hated him, calling him half-blood and staring him down.
"What do you mean, you let her go?" Seto asked Naruto and Tsuna, who opened his mouth to speak.
But Naruto shoved him away.
"I mean I didn't feel like forcing her to come here." He stood tall. "So I took her back to her team."
"Her team?"
"The outsiders from Konoha."
Those crowded together on the sidelines began whispering fearfully. Sasuke caught the words "enemies" and "genocide."
Then one of the veterans punched Naruto in the ear. The others watched quietly. Some looked desperate and furious, like Sasuke. Others were amused.
The veteran punched Naruto's face and chest in until they were badly bruised swollen and bleeding. Tsuna and a little girl cried out to him before he landed on his knees, coughing up blood.
Later, Seto entered Naruto's room where he was sleeping off the pain. He looked like a mummy, wrapped in all those bandages.
"It's a shame you weren't more useful." Seto sighed, producing a syringe filled with poison. "But I'm done with you."
Sasuke woke up on the floor, breathing heavily. Sakura was leaning over him, her hands on his shoulders.
"Sasuke! You okay? You hear me?"
She lightly tapped her hand against his cheek.
"You should be more respectful, Sasuke." Seto toted a long sword of solid black chakra on his shoulders. "You wouldn't want Fugaku to be disappointed would you?"
Sakura glared at him while Sasuke was still lost in space.
"...Amnesia?!" He coughed out, getting Seto's attention.
Seto sneered. "That's right. You don't exist there anymore."
Naruto... Doesn't know? Sasuke thought. Was it the fall? He's forgotten about us?
He forced himself up, grunting and groaning in pain. Sakura's hands were on his head, trying to heal whatever damage Seto had inflicted.
"That's... Not true...!" He told Seto before collapsing once more.
"Sasuke don't move!" Sakura ordered.
"What do you mean?" Hinata demanded. "Where's Naruto-kun?"
Seto's sword tip was pointed at Hinata's forehead, making everyone but Hinata, Sakura, and Sasuke jump away.
Nobody had seen even the slightest hint of movement.
Blood was dripping down the middle of her face.
But she was giving him the perfect death glare, better than any of Sasuke's.
"Where's Naruto-kun?" She repeated.
"It's pointless To ask that," Seto narrowed his eyes, "when he isn't looking for you."
"Be quiet!" Hinata ordered. "Naruto-kun would never--"
"He's not the person you used to know." Seto warned her. "He's one of us now. He's changed."
"So have I." She countered. "Now, where is he?"
"I don't have to tell you anything." Seto took his sword back, preparing to slice her head off. "Begone."
Hinata stepped back as he sliced through the air, turning and stoking the blade away with her palm.
"Air palm!"
Seto's body was jerked back by his own blade, which flew out of his hands and clattered against the floor ten feet away.
"Hmph." Seto glowered at her. "You actually think you can resist."
Sasuke punched the floor. Sakura's treatment was helping. He could move properly from the waist up.
And yet, he probably wouldn't be in time.
Kakashi was preparing something when something knocked against the elevator doors.
Wham! Crush! Wham! WHAM!
Seto turned halfway.
"You always interfere." He complained. "How irritating."
Wham!
"What is that?" Ino asked. "It sounds like an elephant..."
Wham!
Sasuke calmed down. "About time."
Wham!
CRUSH!
The doors were ripped open, flying to the other side of the room and smashing through the windows.
A trail of red skidded to a stop, with three people riding on his back.
It was a tiny nine tailed fox, much different from the one Sakura had once described to Sasuke. This one actually looked like a fox, with fur.
The three people hopped off its back, and Sasuke recognized one as Tsuna.
The fox kicked off the ground with its front paws, morphing back into human form.
Naruto was furious.
And... He was crying.
