Yay, chapter 20! It's exciting. My minakushi fanfic has around that many chapters, but obviously this one will have more. I'm thinking thirty. I have a huge test this week, so I must cram. Wish me luck! Please enjoy chapter 20!
Naruto fanfic chapter 20
NARUTO'S POV [AKANE VILLAGE CAVE]
Naruto pulled his headband over his eyes and tightened the knot. Guardians had no real shape, and, in theory, they could morph. Not much was known, but using your eyes when attacking a guardian was suicide. You needed to rely on sound.
He flooded his ears with chakra until red bubbling chakra formed long fox ears over his own. Suddenly, he could hear everything so well it was like seeing below, above, behind and in front of him without really SEEING anything. The slightest movements of his allies, their heartbeats, their breathing, the ripping of air as the guardian attacked him from several directions.
He blocked the attack with three of his tails.
"Getsuuga!"
Naruto whipped his head up. He could hear more air-shredding. Not as sharp as the guardians, but powerful all the same. Waves of wind sent Naruto's jacket and clothes rustling upward. He shielded his face with his arms as dirt and dust rained down on him.
Kiba's attack was pointless; he and Akamaru passed through the guardian like it was air.
"Stop!" Naruto ordered. "Get away from it!"
"No way!" Kiba laughed. "We're not letting you take this thing on alone!"
"You don't know what you're doing!" Naruto yelled. "It's not a shinobi, or an animal! And fighting it like that will cause a cave in!"
Naruto wouldn't have remembered if Uri and Yuuki hadn't reminded him every day, ten times a day, since he first woke up. Guardians liked to hide underground, so you couldn't jump them with the numbers you needed to provide enough--
"Moron." Sasuke said as Naruto felt him run by, and roll under the beast to push Kiba and Akamaru out of the way of a boulder big enough to crush three men.
"Sasuke!" Sakura called out as she punched a smaller falling boulder into pieces. "Are you okay?"
"We're fine!" Kiba yelled back.
Naruto blocked five more attacks, all aimed at the girls, all fatal. All with enough force to make his head rattle from the impact of his tails and the guardians sharp limbs clashing.
"Not good!" He groaned as his head pounded. The headache... The voices... He'd forgotten them in the heat of the moment.
He felt one leg give out so he was sitting on one knee as his head became a whirlpool of pain, vibrations, and voices.
"Naruto-kun!" Hinata said, kneeling behind him to put her hands on his shoulders.
"No, not now...!" He begged as a flood of noise made his vision turn bright white.
GET... I TRUST YOU TO BE ABLE TO DO IT...
SHOW... POWER... LIKE WHEN YOU... HYUUGA!

"Gah!" He screamed in pain, clapping his hands over his ears as they started bleeding.
"Naruto, stop using Kurama's chakra! You're straining your ears too much!" Hinata told him.
He flinched as another attack came at them, and one of his tails deflected it sloppily, allowing the attack to nearly slice Sakura's cheek open.
Then he winced again, though not from pain, and looked at Hinata, horrified. She gasped, realizing what he was thinking.
"How do you...?" He asked, unable to finish.
For a minute, the noise drained to the background. It was just the two of them, both shocked. Unable to move, nor explain themselves.
Hinata. Hinata knew about Kurama? She even knew his name. Kurama had said Naruto was the first human since the rikudo sennin to know his name, so how did Hinata know it too? And she knew that the red chakra was his too. She knew that the fox ears were dawned from him flooding his own with Kurama's chakra to amplify every sound within a ten meter radius.
How? How did she know? It was impossible that she could know...
Unless he told her. And he didn't remember...
No, that was impossible.
But his parents house was in Konoha...
That didn't mean anything.
Hinata. Hinata who kissed him. Who convinced him to trust the others. Who defended Sasuke. Who loved Sasuke's friend...
His head felt like it was cracking open, and he shrieked in pain, crouching and shaking. His headband loosened and slipped off.
"Naruto!" She was beside him again, her hands hovering over him. "Naruto, I'm sorry! I'm so sorry... I shouldn't have said that...! Please, just ignore it. Forget I said that..."
He straightened up, too livid to notice the pain.
"DONT TELL ME TO FORGET ANYTHING, EVER!" He ordered.
Hinata had her fists pressed over her her mouth as she cried tears of guilt.
Naruto flinched, as the Kyuubi chakra started fading, no longer sharp enough to deflect the attacks. But he noticed another attack in time to push past Hinata and tackle Sakura, getting his shoulder sliced open in the process.
Seemingly satisfied with landing an attack, the beast roared a final time and appeared to meld with the shadows, disappearing.
Naruto's shoulder felt like it had been skinned with a butter knife and drowned in acid. He and Sakura were basically soaked in his blood, and he could barely breath.
"NARUTO!" Sakura screeched, pushing herself up on her arms so his head was in her lap. He blinked and Hinata was crying over him, mouthing something. He blinked again, and the edges of his vision turned black and cloudy. He blinked a third time and most of his vision was gone, though he could see Sasuke, Kiba, and Akamaru had returned.
He grit his teeth, focusing on the pain. He couldn't pass out. Passing out in this situation meant death. Guardian poison, and this much blood loss, was fatal.
Uri had told him what to do... What did he do again...? He couldn't remember...
He blinked, and saw another face. He coughed up more blood, but felt a familiar hand pressed over his cheek.
"Yuu...ki..." He said, relieved.
She smiled, saying something. He nodded, returning his focus to the intense pain, which was trying to fade.
He wouldn't die here.
