We are not worshipping the manga. The manga is the source material; so, in essence, the Anime adapts to it. However, when it deviates from the source material than we can debate the inconsistencies - that is normal. We all see the entertainment value of each side.

This right here, plus, why must the distinctions always be taken in a negative form when it’s mostly just a distinction between the 2. And honestly op, your the only one that jumps every time someone says “it’s filler” not even “it’s shi tty filler” or “garbage filler” 90% of the time your jumping down throats cause someone says “it’s filler”

Yes! Agree. If filler's definition is just 'something that wasn't originally there in the source material' that doesn't have to be instantly negative! But, for the majority- it automatically is. There's never the discussion on whether we like certain novels or arcs on here, because those discussions are never actually started or are shot down immediately by manga-purists. There's a reason we're at this point. Because society in general places too many importance on the author, that's a whole other debate- but point stands. The only people who consider non-canon as the make/break for their enjoyment are in too deep and have been taught to read media differently for reasons they probably won't even question.

It's not just this site or this franchise, it's part of a larger ongoing issue about media reception today. And I think it's really, really interesting.

Have you seen any given conversation over this subject on this site before? We can only speak for ourselves because that is not how it goes down here or in any intense fandom circle.

I like the point about debating inconsistencies. See, if people just casually noticed and had fun filling in the blanks of certain minor inconsistencies- that's great. That's what world-building fiction is meant to do. But instead it's made the only important factor by people eager to ruin not only their own potential media, but devalue other people's readings of it too. It is bizarre and pretty new behaviour in the long-run of literary canon, man.

Plus inconsistencies are petty and hardly the be all & end all when fiction is about entertainment value. Sure, immersion breaks can be distracting but Kishi and his editors made them too. Very recently in fact. Stories shouldn't have to conform to an undebatable timeline as if it's actual world history. Enjoying Lore is great but that isn't what this forum does. Denying certain arcs is just that, denial. Treating long-running stories like non-fiction? Overstressing the importance of canon/non-canon? Sucks out alllll the passion and joy. That's not what the original term was invented to describe.
