No he liked Sakura and he made that oath because he couldn't bear the disgust that he had at Neji mocking Hinata's defeat. He criticized and told her that she was a weakling in that fight and Naruto couldn't bear it. Naruto is always on the path of justice, as a friend he would do anything to support his comrades. It was not a mutual liking or anything like that but simply they were friends and it pained him to see when she was mistreated.

Only because he just proved her point correct over Neji's. Nowhere in the manga is it ever shown that Naruto had romantic feelings for Hinata.

He actually has more romantic moments with Sakura.

There's nothing shallow about Naruto & Sakura's understanding and friendships, she in fact has probably has a better understanding of him as a person.

That becuase he liked Sakura and went extra lengths just to get her attention but as the manga progressed Sakura saw through his Buffon behavior and started to wilt towards him.
