I find alot of names in anime's make no sense... Their meanings are just random, especially the vegetable, and underwear array from Dragon Ball Z... But these names, all mean something similar, Kiba for instance means horse... He is obviously a dog person, but the humanistic animal relationship, is cohesive to it's meaning... If you know some of the names, put them here, and say your thesus, on the reasoning for the naming... Or you can just hate me for starting a stupid thread, but whatever...

Naruto = something edible in ramen. Significance: Naruto loves ramen
Uzumaki = spiral. The clan's symbol
Sasuke = a famous ninja in history
Uchiha is actually a pun on uchiwa which means fan. The Uchiha's clan symbol resembles a fan
Haruno = a blooming field
Sakura = is actually the name of a flower named cherry blossom. They are rose coloured which is why Sakura's hair is rose too.
Nara = is a prefecture in Japan
Shikamaru = Shika means deer (the Nara family has a connection with deers as shown in the episode of killing Hidan) and maru is the masculine ending for a name.
Those are the ones I can think of immediately.
Itachi = weasel

Ah yes, I knew I had forgotten someone. Thanks!
Yamato was a place in ancient Japan from the 4th till the 8th century. Also Gaara = made up of three Kanji, "Ga" (meaning I or me), "A" (more commonly "Ai" meaning love), and "Ra" (used here to mean a demon). Added together, they can mean "I only love myself. I'm a demon." He also referred to himself as a demon when he first appeared in the serie.
