Good prediction. There's only one problem (which is not even really on your part). Even if Obito has a change of heart, he has no future. Even if Naruto, Kakashi and Minato forgive him, the rest of the ninja world is not going to let him live. Obito is basically a world wide terrorist. He can't redeem himself. Therefore there is no "going back" as you said.
