Naruto: Blades of Fate
Chapter 6: Showdown in the Land of Iron
Kiyoji and his group are on their way to the Kage Summit in the Land of Iron. Moving forward, they hope to prevent a global crisis to occur, but unbeknownst to him, Akatsuki is about to make their move.
Kiyoji and his team have been travelling for a few hours now and were now getting close to the Land of Iron, the scene shifted from a temperate climate to that of winter, the trees covered with snow. Along the way Kiyoji’s hallucinations have gone to merely sensing a presence to seeing silhouettes and the pain in his left arm has greatly increased. As their journey continued, Saeko caught on to the disturbance but didn’t know what to make of it. It hadn’t become a serious problem until he nearly tripped whilst running.
“What’s wrong?” Saeko asked, trying to help him up but she quickly shrugged her off, “Your spooked about something, spit it out.” This time Kiyoji wasn’t really receptive.
“Nothing’s wrong.” He said, attempted to simply ignore what happened, “A lot’s on my mind and I simply wasn’t looking where I was going.” He clearly wasn’t in the mood to talk. It was true, he did have a lot on his mind and Saeko could clearly tell but it wasn’t the summit and Sasuke he was thinking about. As he was about to continue walking, a searing pain erupted from his left arm and he collapsed on the ground.
……
Seconds later, the pain disappeared but as he got up and looked around, the scenery had changed completely. Saeko and the others were nowhere to be seen and instead of being in the midst of snow-covered trees, he was instead standing atop a skyscraper.
“This couldn’t be…”he thought aloud, “this is Karakura.” In his right hand was Requiem, the sword that he had used since he completed training almost a year ago. It suddenly hit him, around him the sounds of battle erupted. Nearby, Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya was engaged in battle against the 3rd Espada Hallibel. To his right, Captain Soifon and her lieutenant Marechiyo Ōmaeda were confronting 2nd Espada Baraggan in his resureccion form. Directly above him stood Sosuke Aizen, Gin Ichimaru, and Koname Tosen. He stood there with disbelief. “Why am I here?” He thought to himself, “This has to be more than a hallucination.”
“What’s wrong? Have you lost your will to fight?” He turned around to find the source of the voice. He could hardly believe what he was seeing, for before him stood a man thought to be long dead. He couldn’t distinguish the figure but his spiritual pressure had burned an impression into his mid. He wielded an extremely long zanpakto.
“It can’t be…” was all Kiyoji could mutter, confounded by what was occurring.
“If you’re just going to stand there” The figure began to shout as he lunged forward, “THEN I’LL JUST COME TO YOU!” Kiyoji instinctively tried to raise his sword to block him but his body was completely limp. He plunged his zanpakto right through the center of Kiyoji’s chest…
….
“Kiyoji, what’s wrong? Damn it, wake up!” Rukia said while violently shaking him. He slowly opened his eyes, afraid of what nightmare he was going to wake up to. He looked around and gave a sigh of relief. He got up as if nothing happened, much to the dismay of the rest of the group.
“Are you still going to play this off as nothing?” Saeko asked, “Because collapsing in pain and passing out for almost an hour isn’t normal.” He couldn’t find the courage to explain to them what he had just saw but now the pain in his left arm was now fading.
“Come on, we’ve wasted enough time here.” He said stoically as he walked forward. Renji grabbed his arm, attempting to get him to explain what just happened.
“Even if I told you what was wrong, what could you possibly do?” he shrugged off Renji and dashed forward. Everyone was on edge but Saeko was especially concerned; during her time with him he never acted this way. She remembered him as an arrogant but thoughtful person who was always concerned about others. Now he was cold and disconnected, lost in his own thoughts instead of opening up. The rest of the trip was eerily quiet.
….
When they arrived at the summit, the meeting was already underway. Security was extremely tight, more than what was expecting. The structure itself was pretty solid defense-wise, there were few entrances and they were all heavily guarded.
“We’ll sometimes the simplest solution is the right one.” He said stoically. He proceeded to walk up to the two Samurai guarding the entrance. He tried explaining the situation to the guards that his business was urgent and that he had to be let through. They characteristically rebuked him, telling him that the area was strictly off-limits.
“Oh well, you brought this on yourselves.” He said calmly. The pair was already agitated by his request and now had lost their patience. But before they could as much as move, he activated his Sharingan. Just by looking at him in the eyes, they sealed their fate. For the moment he had activated his Sharingan, he enveloped them in a powerful genjutsu.
“Sometimes people forget that I’m an Uchiha.” He shrugged as the two samurai fell to the ground. He motioned for his team to move up and they charged through the breach. As they were charging through the complex, he sensed an eerily familiar spiritual pressure. It was strange and it wasn’t like his hallucinations from before; it wasn’t even that it was particularly dense but it was….dark. They finally made it to the entrance to the meeting hall proper. He told Saeko, Renji and Uryu to protect the door with their lives and motioned to Rukia to follow him. He went to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge.
It was sealed shut with chakra and it was sealed from the inside. He placed his hand against the door, sensing those within. He was detecting a strange pressure emitting from Danzo, something that was there before. The feeling was familiar but different at the same time. “It couldn’t be…..”
“Here we go” he said as he cut through the door with Tsurugi. As the door burst open, he nonchalantly walked through the doorway with Tsurugi resting against his shoulder. He walked towards the center of the room, past the moderator’s desk and stopped at the dead center of the chamber. The Raikage moved directly in front of him ready to pound him into oblivion.
“Who the hell are you, kid?” the Raikage asked bluntly, “You had better answer quickly, for you are testing my patience.” Kiyoji looked up at him stoically, not really seeing him as a threat.
“The name’s Kiyoji…….Kiyoji Uchiha. I’m here to keep an eye on Danzo.” As far as anyone else in the room had heard, they solely focused on one word: Uchiha. The Raikage was not satisfied by that answer and decided to kill him anyway. Luckily, the blow was completely blocked by a concentrated shield made out of sand.
“Heh….thanks Gaara.” He said, “I guess it is a crime to be an Uchiha these days.”
“Raikage, calm down. He’s not Sasuke.” Gaara said. He used the sand to force the Raikage back to his seat. He himself got up and walked over to Kiyoji, raising his hand to greet him. Kiyoji shook his hand, glad to see an old friend.
“Why are you here, Kiyoji.” He began to ask, “It’s not like you to make a flashy entrance.”
“Yea, I know what you mean. I had a bad feeling.” Gaara was confounded by this, “I had a feeling that something bad was going to happen here, I can’t put my finger on it though. What’s going on here?” Gaara returned to his seat, regaining his usual stoic visage. He sighed and motioned for the moderator Mifune, to explain.
“An alliance between the five shinobi villages has been formed in order to combat the Akatsuki more effectively. I have recommended that Danzo be named leader of the Alliance.” Kiyoji was caught completely off guard by this: it was the worst case scenario. He tried thinking it over, when he finally recognized what the disturbance was. He suddenly aimed his sword at Danzo, ready to strike him down.
“I don’t know how you did it, Danzo, but don’t think I wouldn’t notice.” He said angrily.
“What are you talking about?” the Tsuchikage asked.
“Danzo is giving off a strange chakra; it’s completely different from before.”
Everyone was looking at him suspiciously, thinking that Kiyoji was simply making up an excuse to antagonize Danzo. Suddenly, the Mizukage, Ao landed before the Kages with a startling revelation.
“The kid’s right.” Ao began to say, “I noticed that Danzo’s right arm and eye have a completely different chakra than that of the rest of his body. The chakra that he’s giving off….there’s no mistaking it, it used to belong to Shisui Uchiha. He had the ability to control a person’s mind without them knowing it.” Everyone was shocked by this. The fact that Danzo could have rigged the meeting the moment it had started was terrifying. Kiyoji wasn’t about to wait for someone else to make a move, he was about to strike down Danzo when a figure erupted out of the ground.
“Sasuke Uchiha is nearby. Where could he be?” White Zetsu said with great glee. The room was suddenly filled with confused faces and one very angry Raikage. “Was he the spiritual pressure I sensed?”Kiyoji thought to himself. The Raikage, who had gotten tired of waiting around, blew a hole in the adjacent wall and stormed off looking for Sasuke. He decided to follow suit, yelling out to Renji and the others to stay and watch Danzo while he and Rukia went after Sasuke. They decided to take a different route to that of the Raikage’s, instead going through one of the meeting hall’s various hallways to make in back into the greater parts of the complex. As they ran, he could sense a large amount of chakra being given off. Within seconds that chakra was reduced to a group of people; The Raikage and his body guards and a single person, whose pressure was so much as thick but very dark. They finally entered the expanse that was the greater part of the complex. Towards the center of the room stood six figures, Sasuke in the center with his companions Suigestu and Jugo blocking attacks from the Raikage and his bodyguard Darui respectively. Both groups immediately broke off from each other, both waiting for the others to make a move. Kiyoji finally lost his patience and charged in to stab Sasuke in the back.
“IS THIS HOW FAR YOU’VE FALLEN, SASUKE??” he shouted has he lunged for Sasuke. When he heard this, Sasuke turned to face the new combatant but Kiyoji was far too close for him to react. But just as he was about to make contact, he was blocked from a previously invisible figure.
“Good to see you, Kiyoji.” When he had heard that voice, his heart had sunk. He quickly back-pedaled several yards and assumed a high guard. The man before him had long white hair and a long black trench coat with steal pauldrons. He wielded a 12 foot long zanpakto, Masamune.
“BANKAI!” Kiyoji shouted as lunged forward at his new opponent with Roku Tsurugi in hand. He had easily blocked him while he was still in mid-air. They both landed with blades interlocked.
“How can you still be alive? Answer me, SEPHIROTH!” Kiyoji shouted. He didn’t even acknowledge him; he simple smirked as he repulsed him. He flashed stepped right in front of him, attempting to cut him in half. Kiyoji was barely able to block it because of the speed with which Sephiroth struck.
“Who said you ever killed me?” he replied mockingly. He increased the force behind his blade, throwing Kiyoji through a few pillars. Not allowing him to recover, Sephiroth flashed stepped to him, and skewered him on his sword; lifting him into the air.
“Tell me what you cherish most,” he began to say with great pleasure, “give me the pleasure of taking it away.”
