Naruto: Blades of Fate
Chapter 2: Spitting on your God (Invasion of Pain Remix)
Just as Pain was about to strike down Tsunade, a forgotten son of the Leaf returned to save his Hokage and his home. Kiyoji now stands stalwart before Pain, but for how long?
There was a moment of silence between Pain and Kiyoji but a second later both lunged towards each other. Kiyoji brought his sword around with a vertical slash but was met by Pain and his chakra disruption spear. Just as he was going to break off and bring his sword around for another attack, Pain drew out another spear and thrust it for Kiyoji’s stomach. With lightning fast reflexes, Kiyoji grabbed the spear with his left hand and was about to tear it from Pain’s hand when Pain used Shinra Tensei to separate the two. Kiyoji was thrown terribly off balance. Pain then used Bansho Te’nin to bring Kiyoji closer to him while lunging his spear into his chest. Kiyoji used the momentum to bring his sword around to block the spear. As his technique had ceased, both made horizontal slashes at each other, but neither could score a hit. Pain, attempting to gain the high ground jumped backwards into the air. Kiyoji soon followed with great speed. He made another horizontal slash and Pain motioned to block it with his spear, but to his astonishment, his spear was broken by the attack. He once again used Shinra Tensei to repel Kiyoji while still in mid air. After they both landed, they lunged at each other with intense speed. They stood there, with blades locked and exchanged glances.
“If you know who I am, then you should know that fighting me is pointless” Pain bluntly stated, “you are only delaying the inevitable, for this village is doomed.” Kiyoji just stood there staring at the ground with a blank expression of his face, but as he gazed upward, it revealed an expression of resolve.
“Well, you see” Kiyoji said with a determined stare “I made a promise to an old friend that I would protect her no matter the odds stacked against me. And you know what? I don’t plan on breaking that promise…ANY TIME SOON!”
“Lady Hokage, my name is Rukia Kuchki, please stay here while Kiyoji fights Pain”, Kiyoji’s companion stated, “he doesn’t want anyone to get in the way.” Tsunade, still speechless from his appearance was barely able to get a word across.
“But why?” the Hokage asked “why would he fight him alone if he knew who he was up against?”
“It’s not that he is being cocky or underestimating his opponent” Rukia said as she observed the battle, “he feels that he has to make up for the time he has been gone.” Upon hearing this, Tsunade’s feeling of confusion was replaced by that of anger.
“That’s no excuse for him to throw his life away” she said enraged.
“You shouldn’t be quick to underestimate him either”, Rukia replied, she paused for a second and then smiled, “His appearance isn’t the only that has changed. He’s not the same arrogant guy from before, he’s gotten stronger.” “You just have to have faith.”
“Well, you see” Kiyoji said with a determined stare “I made a promise to an old friend that I would protect her no matter the odds stacked against me. And you know what? I don’t plan on breaking that promise…ANY TIME SOON!” As Kiyoji exclaimed, his sword began to radiate with chakra and broke through Pain’s guard, slashing him across his chest.
Pain quickly back-pedaled, astonished as to what actually happened. He had never been injured in this manner before and was momentarily taken aback by this rare occurrence. He was about to draw out another spear when he received a revelation. The look of shock upon his face changed into satisfaction.
“What’s wrong? Has your messiah complex finally gotten the better of you?” Kiyoji quipped.
“I’ve gotten what I came for. He’s hiding in Myobokuzan, very clever.” Pain said with satisfaction. Now that this battle was meaningless, he jumped away from the battlefield. He was now high above Konoha. Kiyoji followed attempting to reach to the same heights as Pain. He motioned his hands as if they covered Konoha.
“What could he possibly be doing?” Kiyoji thought to himself. He had seen him make a similar motion before. “He couldn’t be….” He realized what Pain was trying to do and attempted to close the distance. But just as he was about to slash Pain, it was too late.
“SHINRA TENSEI!” Pain shouted and in an instant the Village Hidden in the Leaves was leveled. For a moment, Pain’s boasts of being God were true, for it was as if God Himself smashed the village with His hand, crushing the village beneath it. Kiyoji was thrust back down to earth by a violent push and landed near the Konoha hospital. He lay there, staring aimlessly up at the sky. Nearby, Sakura Haruno emerged from the rubble. She surveyed the destruction around her and broke into tears, giving into despair.
“Hurry back, Naruto,” She shouted tearfully, “Naruto, Please!!”
“Get up you coward” Kiyoji thought to himself, “Or have you forgotten why you’re here?” With his courage regained, he stood up with renewed vigor.
“Look, I’m getting a little tired of you always relying solely Naruto. Don’t think I have forgotten my promise” Kiyoji said with a smile. She looked up astonished. She like everyone else heard that he had disappeared while on a mission.
“I know, I know, you thought I was dead, but that’s not important right now. Stay here. I’m going to finish this and after I’m done I’ll explain everything.” She wanted to say something but by the time she looked up he had already left.
He launched himself towards the center of the crater that was once the center of town. Before him stood the Six Paths of Pain. He noticed that the two paths that his comrades were fighting stood there as well. His morale sunk at the thought that Uryu and Renji were killed but he sensed their spiritual pressure nearby. Relieved, he landed before Pain, poised to attack.
“Why do you continue to resist? Trying to buy time against me is like spitting on God.” Pain said whilst the other 5 paths prepared to attack. Without a moment’s notice, Kiyoji lunged forward, aiming for Deva Pain. Just as he was about to hit his mark, he was intercepted by Naraka and Human Paths of Pain. Whilst his sword was still locked blocking his two opponents, the Preta path of Pain lunged forward, aiming to stab him in the back with a spear. Kiyoji immediately broke off and evaded the attack. He used the momentum to launch himself into the air but was met by the same three paths of Pain. They thrust their spears with great force and Kiyoji barely managed to block their joint strike. Seemingly out of thin air, a gigantic summoned bird appeared and slashed at Kiyoji while he was fending off the other Pains. Now completely off balance, the three Pains thrust their spears once again with intense speed. Kiyoji brought his blade around, putting it in-between him and his attackers. He barely blocked the first two but was hit by the third, stabbed through his lower abdomen. Pressing the attack, the summoned-bird moved in for a second attack. Still caught off balance, Kiyoji was slashed across his left arm and was thrown back down to the ground while blocked another series of thrusts by Pain. As he stood with sword posed ready to strike, he realized there was some truth in Pain’s words. Kiyoji fought on even terms when it was just him and Deva Pain, but now there were 5 more opponents he had to contend with at once. He raised his sword so that it was obscuring his face, contemplating what to do next.
As he was about to attack, Tsunade, Rukia, and the Hokage’s bodyguards entered the fray.
“I am the 5th Hokage and I will never forgive you…for trampling on the treasure, the dreams of those who came before me!! As Hokage, I will put a stop to you here and now!”
“It looks like you understand a little of my pain now.” Pain replied “But I have no further use for you.” As Pain finished speaking, the Asura Path of Pain suddenly lunged for the Hokage. It was travelling to quickly and Kiyoji, who was still reeling from his injuries, couldn’t react quick enough. Suddenly, a figure appeared and intercepted Pain. With a single punch, the figure completely demolished Pain. Kiyoji looked on with astonishment but was relieved to see that it was an old friend.
“Naruto, I thought you had the decency to stay out of my fight, huh?” Kiyoji said with a smirk. Naruto quickly turned around, not believing what he was hearing.
“Kiyoji…I don’t know how your here but…this is my fight.” Naruto said with mixed feelings. He seemed like he was happy that Kiyoji was alive but determined to make Pain suffer for what he had done.
“Sorry, suffice it to say, I can’t let you do this on your own” Kiyoji declared, “This bastard has a lot to answer for.”
“Your right Pain, at this rate I have no chance at beating you” he said with a grin on his face, “I wanted to see if I could beat you with just my Shikai but I guess I have no other choice.” He held his sword at a 45 degree angle with his left hand holding onto the blade. It began to glow with chakra and an aura of chakra began to radiate around him. Deva Pain stood there with a perplexed look on his face.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Pain inquired. With each passing second, Kiyoji’s blade grew brighter.
“Watch, you’ll find out soon enough...BANKAI” Moments later, Kiyoji’s sword was completely enveloped in light. Then, as quickly as the light appeared, it disappeared but in its place was a new sword. It seemed composed of many different parts, an amalgamation of many different swords but was roughly the same size as his previous sword. What was even more troubling was that while the amount of energy emanating from the boy’s body seemed to decrease it was actually condensed and was being generated at a much higher rate.
“Gamakinchi!” Naruto yelled “Take care of Tsunade.” Gamakinchi complied and took the Hokage to safety and as per Kiyoji’s request, Rukia accompanied them.
“Roku Tsurugi” Kiyoji shouted with his new blade in hand, poised to strike,
“Pain, you claim to be a god and if judged by your destructive power alone you are one rightly so. If that is the case…then I’m just going to have to kill a god.” A moment later, Kiyoji disappeared from view. Pain frantically looked around, but he had completely disappeared. Kiyoji reappeared, poised to cut Deva Pain’s throat.
“What’s wrong?” Kiyoji asked, “Didn’t see me coming? Good.” To everyone’s astonishment, instead of cutting Pain’s throat he withdrew and fell back several yards, back to where Naruto was standing.
“Now where were we?”
