How exactly did Gaara escape that final blow? By making the sand lighter? At that velocity and moving straight down changing the texture of the sand isn't going to stop him from being hit!

Then a few chapters later Sasuke uses freaking Chidori once and Gaara is over there bleeding. What a bunch of horse garbage.
