Naruto as Hokage

We know from Chapter 700 that Naruto becomes the Hokage, but as far as our information reaches, he was still a Genin at that time. And that still doesn't make sense to me.
I already felt that it would have made sense to just promote him to Chuunin after his part in rescuing Gaara and defeating Pain, but there is no way they wouldn't have promoted him (maybe even immediately to Jounin) after the events of the Fourth Shinobi War.
Does this strike anyone else as irritating and illogical?

I just figured they knew how irrelevant rankings were, especially for Naruto who is strong enough to be a Kage.

I understand that people will say, why not just rank the guy until then but I just blame that on Kishi putting emphasis on rankings don't matter much like how power levels are pretty irrelevant in DBZ.

I don't think ranks mattered at the time of Naruto's election as Hokage. He is more entitled to the position than anyone before him, given that he is the one who saved the goddamn world.

To all of you who say he just took the Chuunin exam: he doesn't have a team to compete with and no one can stand up to him. Besides, do they really still need him to show/prove he is strong/wise enough to be a chuunin?

Remember that the moment he became a Sage, regardless of Organized rank, he achieved one far higher.

Sage was a title given to "OroJiNade" by Hanzo for surviving a fight with him. It's not some name you get from a village.

I'm sure everyone knows that Naruto is more than simply a genin, I think it really doesn't matter to them since he's pretty much the top dog in NV, a war hero, and could destroy a village entirely by himself. At that point you pretty much transcend rank.
