They were very straight forward, and made it a point to let us they know they were ****s.

But in Naruto it's always some dumb reason as to why they're a villian.

for example,

-My brother died.

-My parents died.

-My clan died.

-My brother slaughtered my clan for my village and lied to me about it to protect me.

-My dad died for some eyes.

-My crush that friend zoned me died.

Just stupid reasons that make people feel sympathetic towards them.

That's why they aren't villains, they're whiny *****es.
