1: It didn't help stop the cycle of hatred. If they had just left after beating Kaguya, that's the cycle of hatred allready over. Instead, they had to perpetuate it, putting the entire world at stake, just too see who is stronger.

2: It didn't help see who is stronger. Because at that point, strength was nothing to do with skill, and everything to do with how many powers Hagoromo gave them. Which was slightly unbalanced. Sasuke got the power to teleport about 5 meters every 10 minutes. Naruto got the power to fly, shoot lasers, summon Sand, Fire, Water, Lava, Steam, Acid, Whatever Chomei does, and Ink, toss nukes around like nothing, erase any and all ninjutsu, and resurrect the dead. Bit unbalanced there.

3: It didn't need to happen. Seriously, Itachi solo's. Here's what Sasuke says about being Hokage.

If Hagoromo had summoned Itachi right there, he would have talk no jutsu'd sasuke and ended the revolution immediately.

4: It didn't decide who would become Hokage.
Because seriously, would anyone hand over the title to Sasuke after he killed the last two Hokages, as well as Gaara, Mei, A and Onoki?

Yes, it was. Sasuke should have stayed bad, both of them should have died and the war arc would have had SOME redemption, plus no more shipping wars.

The fight was done to please the fans but also to once again follow the duality theme of kishimoto

Naruto is yang: He is the hokage the one everyone sees, the light.

Sasuke is yin: He is the one that no one sees, the one who protects without anyone's knowledge, the shadow.

Itachi wouldn't have tnj'd sasuke.what itachi and sasuke think hokage mean is totally different.
And itachi said the only one who can "tnj'd" sasuke was naruto

Ehh.... I would've honestly preferred that Naruto and Sasuke went somewhere after Kaguya was defeated, ate some food, got a lot of rest, spent some time really thinking about everything, and then fought each other. Both at 100% full power. (For w/e reason Kishi could come up with at that time)

But their fight just felt extremely rushed imo..

The fight was majorly fan service, Hashirama's explanation was enough to sway Sasuke (and it did).

Disagree. The cycle of hatred would NOT have died with Black Zetsu (not Kaguya btw) as Sasuke was willing embrace that system and work with it rather than just try fix the system completely like Naruto optimistically did.

Regardless, whilst one Naruto simply wouldn't have let Sasuke take the role. Whilst one is alive and Sasuke has his Valley mindset- the other cannot put their ideology into place. And then there's the constant series-long d*ck measuring rivalry the two have had. Sasuke feels the need to prove himself against Sasuke whilst Naruto compared himself against Sasuke to get stronger.

Naruto & Sasuke broke the cycle by not killing the other like Hashirama did. By killing Madara the cycle of revenge (or hatred as Naruto refers to it)

They had to fight to understand each other.

It was far from pointless. Plus the fans needed it. I've been waiting for Naruto to whoop his ass since the kage summit.

No I believe that the cycle of hatred ended when both of the "brothers" gave up on fighting each other. When Ashura and Indra destroyed themselves, their feelings and beliefs were so strong that it resonated throughout time and was reincarnated into others to continue on. When Hashi "killed" Maddy it moved on again. So when Sasuke and Naruto ended their fight on their own terms (not from TnJ from Itachi and co) they ended that rivalry and the cycle stopped. So the souls of Indra and Ashura are at peace.

Eh... I know the fight wasn't pointless, but it still felt that way, considering how short it was. It felt like Kishi just slapped it at the end of the series just to please the fans, like it happened for the sake of happening. I really wish the fight was executed better, because, for the final fight of the series, it felt extremely anticlimatic. Maybe add some more buildup or let it take place sometime after the Kaguya arc, not directly after it, so the tension can build up properly.

IMO it also wasn't needed because even if we accept the words of the author and agree that Sasuke's idea of maintaining peace was wrong, and then he agreed to follow Naruto's idea, which is ... what, exactly? I don't quite understand what is Naruto's idea of peace. He basically just wants to keep things as they were, thus accepting the inevitability of the upcoming wars, conflicts, pain and basically the continuation of the cycle of hatred. I find it very unrealistic and hard to believe that everyone in NV just suddenly decided like 'YAY, LET'S ALL LIVE PEACEFULLY AND HAVE MASS ORGIES EVERY NOW AND THEN CUZ NARUTO IS THE HOKAGE AT LAST!!". Long story short, Sasuke wanted to change the corrupted system, while Naruto decided to leave it as it is, but suddenly we see that the world has changed... just because. It's one of my main disappointments in this manga.

I agree that it was pointless but as Kishi said in interviews, he wanted his epic final battle between the two. He basically forced it despite the fact that it was unnecessary and pointless bc he planned it from the start and had to have it. The end of the war and defeat of Kaguya was more than enough to bring Sasuke back on the right track. The story should've ended with philosophical discourse between the two not some bul sh!t battle though it was cool to see Sasuke's ultimate humanoid susanoo.

I don't agree with point 1, because Sasuke was still set in his ways about his definition of Peace, but thank you so much for finally bringing up point 2.

It's nuts.

Totally agree.

In terms of peace making, I would say the options we've seen are ranked as so.

1. Sasuke's culmination of hatred in one, unstoppable person.
2. Nagato's Nuclear attrition.
3. Madara's Infinite Tsukuyomi (assuming it functioned as he intended)'
4. Ashura's/Naruto's/Hashirama's/ Love will keep us on the right path.

If Sasuke died in this battle, there would have been 3 humans on this planet, Naruto, Kakashi and Sakura, as they wouldn't have been able to undo IT.

It wasn't pointless.

Sasuke stopped being a ****. That justifies everything.

The series bread and butter:

1. Will Sasuke stop being a ****?
2. Will Naruto become Hokage?
3. Who ends up with who
4. Who is gonna win the Vote 2 rematch

Sasuke's eye could just be used to undo it. He wasn't needed, just the rinnegan was

True.

Naruto sure didn't seem to understand that one when launching his final attacks. He had no idea whether he would destroy Sasuke's eye or not in that final bout.

At least Sasuke knew that he had the Bijuu on lock if Naruto was killed. Haha
