Naruto and Sasuke promise

During their fight in the valley of the end, Sasuke stated that when two powerful attacks clash with each other the users are able to see what each other are thinking in their mind. When Naruto used kyubi rasengan and Sasuke used black chidori,when they both clashed it showed young naruto and sasuke pinkie promising, I was wondering if that.promise ment anything.
