Not only do they parallel the actual Indra and Asura.
Though naruto more like the actual Indra lol.

But they're similar to the Christ:
Cain and Abel
Hindu:
Shiva and Krishna

Epic tradition:
Beowulf and Grendel

Greek:
Apollo and Artemis even though she's a girl lol

Opposite make for a more interesting plot, you get to see from both good and evil perspectives. The whole yin and yang thing.

The concept of a foil is essential to many of the best stories in history, and this storytelling method is actually very common. Portraying the "hero's" qualities in light of a character with the opposite personality serves to heighten the qualities of both characters.

Kishimoto uses several foils to develop Naruto's character. The first, and most obvious method was to have Sasuke and Naruto serve as foils. Sasuke's darker, brooding, and pessimistic attitude serves to make Naruto's more positive attitude stand out. However, Kishimoto has also used other characters as direct comparisons to Naruto. Naruto is following in the footsteps of Hashirama, Dan, Nawaki, Nagato, and Obito in his desire to protect his friends and become Hokage. Unlike each of them (who failed to achieve their goals), though, Naruto will most likely succeed in protecting everybody.
