In addition, we saw Orochimaru's clones use S/t similar to Kamui so if Kawaki is another one of his creations it's possible he could have used the same thing to send Naruto away which led Sasuke to go look for him.

That is very possible, because I don't see how those two could lose, let alone to a kid. Maybe Sasuke decided to let Boruto handle it.

I just can't see either of them dying to an opponent that matches Boruto, when both Naruto and Sasuke are in an entirely different league.

Which is exactly why they can't be dead lol. However, being a demi god doesn't mean you're immune to being S/t jutsu. Naruto got removed from the plot that way in the Boruto movie so it's possible the author put him in another dimension again in the manga, maybe Kawaki tricked Naruto into falling in a wormhole he made or something.
