Kishi didn't think of this ashura and Indra chakra thing back then. He just added that part to progress the story....

yes but naruto doesnt need rinnegan nor do i think he should have it. he has successfully defeated all 3 great dojutsu without aid. but in sauskes case rinnegan is the absolute right way to go, because it would seem that sauske and naruto are the ast reincarnations of the hermits sons, as long as sauske gets rinnegan and turns to narutos side in battle yet again therefore completing the loop of other reincarnations
