There's a range of different ways for that scene to have gone down - but Naruto's way of puzzling over it and Sakura's reaction are reminiscent of: "Shut up. I'll kill you." from our beloved Mei - which involved heavy plays on words and phrases (some of which not typical in Japanese, from what I understand).

A lot of you need to remember that konohamaru did something somewhat similar in part 1 except he didnt ask Naruto like Minato did. "Hey Naruto. I know that she's your....girlfriend" ;D Naruto responded with "yeah you can tell she's pretty crazy about me huh?" Sakura also didnt deny it then but responded by punching him just like in chapter 631. So the argument with the whole Sakura didnt deny it so that means she loves him back is invalid. She didnt deny it back then either and that's when she fangasmed over Sasuke constantly. So again invalid. Neither pairing is confirmed. And some of NaruSaku fans jumped to conclusions. Kushina and Sakura were compared/paralleled not minaKushi/NaruSaku because kushina never beat on minato. So NaruSaku fans quit making of NaruHina fans because you guys look just as pathetic and NaruHina fans quit having panic attacks and bashing people as well.

I'll simply summarize the fight with Neji and its importance - since the chapters are quite available for review and there's a lot of tie-backs to Hinata within them and a lot of foreshadowing of future issues - such as Destiny and the power to choose it.

Neji's fight is what solidifies Naruto's new character direction - he's no longer the little brat who wants people to respect him and thinks he's the best. He's the proud failure - the guy who will stand up for what is right and who refuses to be beaten down.

I will also take time to mention that it is curious that Kabuto took time to heal Hinata, even though he had just gotten through killing dozens of Anbu. Quite puzzling and an arguably unnecessary detail. But it wouldn't surprise me if that 'forgotten' fact crops up in the future.

Anyway - that character arc holds until Naruto gets hit with a quandary: He's destroyed people who have friends and family who will dislike him. He defends a village that has committed sins in the past. Can he always defend his friends?

So, he has to confront this idea that he can't merely be the Proud Failure and always expect to live in a peaceful existence. He needs an ideal - and he needs to find it, quick, because that last friend was pretty important to him.

It is through this struggle that he adopts and embraces his Sensei's philosophy - which allows him to connect with Nagato and inspire him to bullshit the village back to life (kill all seven Pains and get a wish to bring everyone back to life... sounds familiar...).

And then we get into the more recent events:

We turn to chapter 573... titled: "Path Toward Radiance" - that's how blatant it is. I knew what chapter I would find Hinata in simply by looking at the title of the chapter.

Oh, and let us remember that Naruto is encountering another quandary in 615. Obito - the people his friends are fighting and dying against... also wants peace for everyone - just as he had sworn to fight Pain in order to find a way to pass along peace to the world.

That Neji was also wrapped back into this deal is intended to follow the concept of Destiny that started during the Chunin exams. That's deliberate. As is Hinata's role in developing Naruto's character.

At this point - Naruto rejects Madara's solution for peace and decides to seek out another solution. Yet again - It's Hinata who plays a crucial role in all of this.

Compare that to: "I'm going to make it up to Naruto. He deserves better from all of us." (lies to him).

"I'm going to kill Sasuke so that Naruto doesn't have to be hurt anymore." (Can't kill Sasuke, needs to be saved by Naruto - who ends up poisoned by her Kunai).

It's worse than the trolling of Kakashi's "I'm going to use all of my 1,000 Ninjutsu!" - at least he was kicking ass off-panel (we can only assume) - because he crops back up, alive, to deal with Obito.

It's like I said, above... take the chapter: "Toward Radiance" - the whole idea is that they are unifying the Alliance against Tobi. In that same chapter, Hinata (meaning: "A place in the Sun") claims that she's going to be holding Naruto's hand, walking with him. Later, the Alliance gets there, starts getting torn up, and it's Hinata who helps Naruto steer clear of the 'dark side.' Oh, and she holds his hand.

People can criticize Hinata all they want to. She at least follows through with what she says she's going to do. ... Probably why she doesn't talk a whole lot - but that's another issue.
