This is the setting. Naruto is currently challenged: "How are you to bring about peace?" - A challenge to generate substance from an idea... Naruto is accomplished by this time - but he still has no form to this more grand idea to bring about peace... and simply flailing about randomly to achieve it based on what you -don't- want to happen is, obviously, not going to lead to the desired change.

This segment is interesting, as it shows the changes that have occurred in both. Naruto, being accepting of his responsibility to protect the village - to his own death, suggests that Hinata leave (Yin and Yang elements, respectively). Hinata refuses, and accepts being responsible for making the effort to protect Naruto - at the cost of her life (Yang and Yin, respectively).
Hinata is not purely Yin. Naruto is not purely Yang.
Fast forward another 200 chapters or so:

Compare this to where we started... Naruto has lost much of his Yang flare. He's committed to the 'form' of peace, and is now open to the 'energy' to affect that change:

Hinata, being inspired and changed by Naruto's own flare through the series, inspired him in a manner similar to how he had inspired her. She 'gave' him the necessary energy to affect change - the reminder of the fact that his efforts had unified his friends, his village, and even other nations. It was this reminder of structure that allowed for the means ('energy') to accomplish his goals.
This is also -extremely- important to the theme. Nagato and Naruto were both potential children of prophecy - having a "destiny." Nagato and Naruto faced the same choice... ironically enough at the hands of the same man. Naruto's response solidified him as the child of prophecy.
While it is often said that Neji's whole speech about destiny played out to be seemingly true, after all... it's appropriate to say that Nagato was no more or less destined to be the child of prophecy than Naruto (not to mention that Neji died protecting Naruto - and - Hinata). It was his response that determined his 'destiny.' His choice.
It is this constant exchange and co-inspiration between the two that has been behind some of the most pivotal points in storyline development of Naruto. Relationship pairing or no - the two have always played an important and intrinsic role in each others' lives that seems to be clearly designed around Taoist principles.... and likely will continue to do so through the coming story.

HINATA: ULTIMATE HYUGA?
Recall that the 'ultimate' goal of Taoism rests in the concept of Wei Wu Wei - accomplishment without effort; or 'action through inaction' ... best described as the ability to affect change without it being glaringly obvious that it was done - without resisting the natural order.
A gentle touch here. A nod there. A splash of water - and one changes the world.
Perhaps there is no higher state of the Byakugan... and Hinata has mastered the Hyuga arts far more than anyone quite realizes - having united nations all without raising an ounce of suspicion.

I don't intend to turn this Epic Theory Thread into a normal vs pairing Thread but TBH Jiraiya's tale is the inspiration only for the Sannin character backgrounds.... Jiraiya,Oro and Tsunade's techs are also inspired from that tale....

And Sakura looks super happy for liking Sasuke, she's so proud of it.
If you looked at other translation Sakura was actually teasing Naruto for caring about little details, such as her calling Sasuke's name first. And by the way Sasuke was first to show up. And by the way it's team 7 the "nostalogic" feelings as was described by Ino, that's what was supposed to be shown in that chapter.

Hinata wasn't even created at chapter 3 that's why she wasn't introducted then when others were, and that's why anime team introduced her when in manga that didn't happen.
It could also be that the first 100 chapters of the manga, or so, had been written before the Anime began production.
Characters don't have to be introduced in the beginning for them to have been planned from the beginning. I have a whole series of novels planned out from start to finish - there's room for shifting and 'evolution' as the story grows - but the core story and concepts are fixed.
Editors said that they need more support characters that's when he created Hinata. Sasuke and Sakura were the first ones suggested, Sasuke - Rival, Sakura - love interest.
I've heard this before - though Sakura's element tends to shift between being "a love interest" and "main heroine."
In spite of that - Hinata's concept art is fairly clear in how Kishimoto envisioned her character; even though, at the time, she was supposedly not to be a ninja.
Though the kishimoto quotes get a little funky - which is why I rarely bother with them, and, instead, rely upon the factual record.
And Kishimoto uses "Jiraiya Goketsu Monogatari" as an inspiration for series.

In her concept art - you can see Naruto sitting and looking at the sun while Hinata stands in the shade of a rock/hill/some mass while wearing darker clothing.
*sigh* National Treasure becomes a huge hit, inspiring teens everywhere to explore loose bricks in crumbling foundations and look on the dollar bill for signs of the Illuminati. Kishimoto practically draws a Yin-Yang in front of them... and they want to argue that Sakura is just as valid.

I'll borrow your argument, because I'm shameless. The Sannin were additional support characters developed to create a sort of cause/purpose assosciated with cycles through history. Naruto, Sauske, and Sakura were not envisioned as the protege of the Sannin - that was an additional role that was added in, later - possibly well after the Chuunin exam arc. We see the characters Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade all appear relatively spontaneously - it wasn't until much later that the story starts to evolve to support their characters.
Your argument cannot be consistent if you support the notion that Sakura and Sasuke were developed as an editorial recommendation -and- simultaneously intended to mimic the Sanin. Events in the story argue against there being any kind of intrinsic relationship planned between the Sanin and the main three characters. It's only a relatively loose parallel by the time the Sasuke Retrieval Arc rolls around (though the Sasuke Retrieval Arc was, more or less, to tie in the current cast to events in the past - the events that separated the Sannin and the events that separated Madara from Hashirama - which is largely when we can assume Kishimoto to have developed the overall backstory that we got during the war - if it was only 'an idea' before then, it had become a goal following the completion of that arc).
Obito, Rin, Kakashi. Jiraiya, Tsunade, Orochimaru. Naruto, Sakura, Sasuke. The relationship is there - but the individual stories for each remain unique and independent of each other.
Jiraiya's one of wishes was to be accepted by Tsunade(as a lover), save Orochimaru, these are things he failed, and Naruto is the one to break this curse, he will accomplish everything that Jiraiya couldn't.
Then he's already failed. He didn't bring Sasuke back. Itachi did (despite leaving Sasuke to Naruto...).
Further - love is not something you can win. It's not something you should -have- to win over. It's something you should realize exists between you and another person; a mutual desire to be happy and to enjoy each others' company. If Sakura hasn't desired that for the past 633 chapters... what, pray tell, makes you think that is suddenly going to change... when she's had that right in front of her the whole time?
You could try and make the same argument with Hinata - but she's really only entered the picture recently (as far as playing an overt role in Naruto's life).
Even further... Naruto only needs to succeed in finding a girl to share love with to surpass Jiraiya. He doesn't need to acquire Sakura as a trophy for his stubbornness. He's grown considerably as a character - and not because of Sakura.

Why is it that Hinata was brought in to defend Naruto during two critical character development sequences... when the 'Main Heroine' he 'is to be paired with' because of 'parallels to a folk tale' is -right there- and does nothing?
Not only does nothing... but refrains from being anything resembling a main heroine until one of the key antagonists of the story (Sasuke) has made a rapid transition back to trying to be a protagonist?
Or why Naruto is starting to use Hinata's words? Even though she's just a side character... no real important role...
Or gets a whole two and a half pages dedicated to her character since: "She's had her part, now she'll fade back into the background."
Or why we received so much back-story on her character and personal relationship with her father (even though it was "because of Neji" ... if you listened to the NaruSaku forums back then) ... only to see her adopt Naruto's nindo and determination in her introductory chapter?

Considering she creamed herself when he showed up and then got all she-hulk on us to show off for him (honestly... I know Kishimoto is -trying- to make her look strong and upstanding... but she's hopping around like every other piece of fodder while Naruto damn near dies on two occasions and gives in to joining Obito once... and she only decides to get serious once Sasuke is around... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot... could he make her appear to be any more of [word that will be starred out]?) - I'd have to say she's just fine with that.
I would, instead, argue that she was worried about Sasuke. Last time she'd seen him - he was ... well - not the friend she remembered. But she still loves him - still cares about him.

That bond those two have is very special, a notion brought fourth time and time again. Not something many of us are graced enough to experience ourselves. We all just simply aren't so lucky, and maybe that is why it is often romanticized in fiction's many forms.

It seems as though Naruto doesn't fully understand this bond himself in ways, I take it as intriguing to him. It's in a state of ambiguity in where he stands, though the way things are unfolding I'd say it's obvious in which direction he will take. This bond is different and unique compared to all the others he has experienced. Not even the parallels of the past people love to debate can really touch it. It's a concept in which it stands on its own, without support of others or historical events that have been mirrored upon Naruto. Standing on its own in the simple notion of "I see you, and I'm so happy to know that you exist."
Have you ever consider of being a writer? Your writing is very good and your theory on the matter is very interesting, detailed and specific. Even if Naruhina doesn't happen, they still share a special bond that is unique and different from any other bonds Naruto has with anyone else. I do hope the pairing will happen; and judging from the series it most likely will. I think you have a better understanding of the series "Naruto" than Kishimoto, himself. No offense to the creator of course.

I've always thought of the both Uzamaki and Hyuga clans are the distinctive of Uchicha and Senju that it relates to the sage of 6th path but I think that Kishi would never reveal it cause at this point the series is almost over =/
